I've been watching Retro Rick for a while, and I really enjoy his videos hunting for deals at flea markets and such, but these new videos just break my heart. I recently sold my childhood mint CIB copies of Pokémon red, blue, yellow, silver, gold and, crystal for around $500 each to a serious collector. I know they will be treasured. I used the money to pay some bills and buy other retro games and collectables that will give me more joy since I know that I'll never be picking up a Gameboy again to play Pokemon. With that being said, I find it incredibly hard to believe that all of these items added up are only worth around $10,000. Complete in box retro systems go for hundreds especially in such good condition. The same can be said for CIB games. It seems like Retro Rick has now become a part of the dark side of retro collecting, the mark-up reseller. I can understand that he's running a business, and in order to make money you need to lowball the people coming in who are selling items. There's just no other way to do it as your profit is entirely dependent on how much you pay for the stock that you sell. The thing that gets me is that Rick would never pay these prices himself for those games if he went into another shop that was selling them for the same price. Sad.
@jamesmincks2 жыл бұрын
He's going to regret trading all these games in. He's going to want to start over with his daughter but by then the games he traded in especially the Pokemon ones will be 3 to 4 times what he originally paid for them.

Typical purchasing shouldn't go above 30-35% of market value for used/thrift/pawnshop video game type purchases. It's really cool to see you paying 50% of market value. I'm not sure that's sustainable over a larger scale with more franchises but it's definitely honest business and keeps customers happy. With that said, it's a little inside baseball and I would never reveal my buy/sell margins as you do. A sale is a sale. If both parties agree on a price it's a deal. Really cool to see this KZbin channel and you have a beautiful store. I'm quite surprised to see you have only 42.4k sub. With your personality, the look of the store and the overall good nature of the content I'm convinced your subs should be between 300-500k. You should get in touch with a social media specialist and have them cut and curate the videos so add a little more virility to them and real make them pop and get those subs where they should be :)

The Gameboy & DS Pokemon Boxed Collection was probably worth around $2,500-$3,000+ in itself especially for the condition it was all in. Kind of tough to see a collection to this degree sell for $5,400 with the condition everything was in & nostalgia being one of the stronger driving forces for investments.

If you can get 50-60% of a return on a trade, that is a killer deal, when factoring in the hassle of selling on eBay, 15% eBay fees, and of course now getting taxed on anything past $600 in yearly sales. As others have said, I'm sure this was more of a friends deal - I doubt someone without connections is getting this kind of a value just walking into a game store.
