Sadly Bowser never really takes things seriously in almost every Mario game made including Super Mario 64 here. Only game I have ever seen Bowser take things seriously in was Paper Mario 64. He completely suckerpunches you by lifting Peach's Castle into the air, forces you into a battle you will never win, and then go on an insanely long adventure before finally ending up back at Peach's Castle again at the very end.
