That creme egg was almost rectangular, far bigger than today's butter bean size offering. Great nostalgic escape, thank you.

Double Decker. Have not one of those for ages. Funny fact, there was a high street in an English town (can't remember where) that suffered from a bad case of subsidence. A huge hole opened up which nearly swallowed up an actual double decker bus. Fortunately no one was badly injured. However, Cadburys were quick off the mark with their advertising and the next day they published an ad with a picture of the bus in the hole and the tagline: "Nothing fills a hole like a Double Decker".
@mattw833210 ай бұрын
The bus that fell into the hole happened in my home city of Norwich in 1988 (Earlham Road). A few holes opened up on main roads around that time due to historic chalk mines I think. I never knew about the Double Decker advert until fairly recently - very clever. 😁

Am I alone in connecting a product to a very specific time? For me, that Smiths Tubes adverts conjures up very distinct primary 1 and primary 2 memories, and my school's dinner hall 😀 I loved those crisps (but even at that young age I was very sceptical of the merits of Smiths very popular Salt 'N' Shake, whose gimmick was that you could do the salting yourself and have a mixed bag of either greatly under-salted or greatly over-salted crisps, with maybe a crisp or two with the appropriate amount of seasoning - oddly fondly-remembered, despite clearly being crap 😆)

the days when Creme Eggs were a proper size, before they shrank them. I do take issue with the season bit though as back in the day you could get them at any time of year, making them seasonal was a more modern thing & an example of Cadbury shooting itself in the foot

Nice to see the great Sam Kelly in an advert (8:07) - he's not someone I can remember seeing in many, if any, before. Unlike Harry Enfield, but I'll happily watch any ad he's in - his Dime and Mercury ads (Greyson and Mr Cholmondley-Warner) are amongst the most memorable I've ever seen.

How did people in the UK react when the makers of the Marathon bar decided to change the same so that it would be the same everywhere? I wish it were easier to get British Cadbury in the US now. It just doesn't taste right since the US division was sold to a different company. I can't remember seeing Rolos in the US in decades.
