Yeah i agree. It always annoys me when people go on about how much better it is compared to an Amiga when it was like 5 times as expensive and newer. But it is still a version of the game that exists and therefore should always be in the comparison. It makes more sense than including emulated versions of games.
@Bloodreign13 жыл бұрын
The X68000 was pretty much the heart of every arcade game of that era, so 90% of the time it could churn out pretty much exact arcade ports, save for Chase HQ, which was botched as a port for that. The X68K was 2 years newer than the Amiga, and ate it for lunch, but that was because the Japanese were just better at building PC's, and the fact that they based one off the guts of arcade machines gave it a massive advantage over any PC at that time.

@@Bloodreign1 seriously it’s really impressive but it’s just funny because in each video it’s like « who’s going to win ? Oh it’s bloody Sharp X68000 again ! ». If I remember correctly, there are layout differences between the US and JP arcade versions. of course, the x6800 version uses tthe ladder. unlike most post crash ports of pac-man games to consoles, the nes and genesis ports were ported by external western developers, at a time when namco usually ported their games in house. they were both pubblished by tengen (which is to be expected given parent company Atari games was a sister company to namco), who outsourced the nes port to westwood (soon to become king of the RTS genre, or at least the one to beat blizard within an inch of their lives) and the genesis port to Utah based Sculptured software, who had previously did contract work for Atari corp, including an atari800 port of mario bros, which was commissioned after atari lost the source code to their own unreleased version.

Arcade: Yeah, the game we all know!! ZX Spectrum: The Pac-Man eating a dot looks like an little fart Commodore 64: A little worse but is okay Amstrad CPC: Looks like an ZX Spectrum game, again... MSX: Literally the same as Amstrad CPC but the music is good Amiga: A decent conversion, but the music is good Atari ST: Huh, this is worse than the Amiga MSX2: The music like an FM Master System is good, and his limitations it's okay Sharp X68000: *The best conversion in the Arcade* ! NES: This version, woof (arf), tengen with the pirate games, this is little bad Acorn Archimeds: Decent music, bad colors and some changes! Master System: Not that system is powerful than NES? But, yeah, little worse and little good Genesis: WHAT THE HECK, Genesis have more colors and better music than Master Systen, but, this is an poor conversion PS1: Very good port, like the Sharp X68000! GBA: Literally the same as Arcade, the music is the same but poor, and they cutted an part of the music, but, is cool whitouth the music and sound effects. PS2/GC/Windows: Sound effect's pitch is higher but perfect conversion! J2ME: Looks like an Saturn game, but worse PS3/Xbox 360/Windows: Literally also the same as Arcade. My favorite is the Sharp X68000, PS2/GC/Windows, GBA and PS3/Xbox 360/Windows.

ZX spectrum version shown was the 48k version and not the superior 128k version which had nicer sound and music

yeah this video is great but is missing a few versions. Wasn't unusual for the home computers to have multiple ports of the same game, done years apart, by different developers, to account for more powerful hardware and just sometimes the initial port was botched and they wanted to do it properly by starting over from scratch again. Same with Dos. An 80s DOS PC would get a port and then in like the mod 90s a new far better port would be done, also for DOS, or windows. Home computers are somewhat hard to document though. With bedroom programmers, the number of games for the home computers, especially the micros like the Speccy, was just ridiculously big, and you'd get like a cassette with 10 games on it free with a magazine, and so many of them were never documented, they were so often just games written by kids in a few weeks and sent in to the magazine who put it on the tape and then that was it for a release. It must be hard to do a video like this including the computers because it is impossible to show every version of every game for every computer because the info just isn't there let alone the ROM for the game. You show what you can get. Which is why this is still a great video

@@duffman18 When doing spectrum versions the 128k is always the definitive version and likely on the same tape

Many ZX-Spectrum games when you run it in 128K you get extra sounds, it is coded, a z80 assembly sub-routine to autodetect for AY chip (exs: Exolon, Rex, Rick Dangerous, Revenge of Doh, ...) 48K Spectrums with AY sound interface plugged in it also get sounds benefits (i don't remember the name of this interface). So, it is the very same version, although there is cases that the developer made 128K version. For example, Renegade game has 48K and 128K versions.
@rustyboltskpears3682 жыл бұрын
@@martagarcia5034 yeah I owned one 128k+2 still do... I just meant the 128k version game or the game running on this hardware, should be shown if comparing between systems to show the game in its best light for the format presented. Likewise if showing the pc version you wouldn't show it in EGA mode when VGA or SVGA is its best mode.

@@setsers1 oh yeah, and the mobile phone port of Popeye was amazing. Not only was it extremely faithful to the original Nintendo arcade game, but the "Special" mode was where it was at. This mode had updated graphics, a new stage or two, and even bonus levels. Plus, play sessions earned you tokens which could be used to actually get comic strips to enjoy (though you'd still get charged for the downloads). A truly comprehensive port.

The arcade version is definitely the best. Everything that came after it until the PS1 looks like a crappy Scratch port, and the PS1 and later have weird contrast, weird music, etc. until you get to the 2014 version, which looks like an emulated version of the game.
