Pretty huge difference right off the bat. The other good thing about RetroTink line is that you can trust it's adding zero input lag to your setup.

Great video! I have a basic AV to HDMI converter and was contemplating what I should get to help smooth picture and prevent lag for my retro systems (NES, PS1, N64, Sega Genesis, Xbox, GameCube). It seems the RetroTink 2x-Pro and some new cables should do the trick. Thanks!
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost 8 ай бұрын
Thanks! When you upgrade the cables, it can indeed make a massive difference, especially pairing those better cables with something like the 2X Pro, it makes for a way better experience.

Thank you for making a proper test with component and s-video included. The composite test everyone else makes, doesn't make much sense.

Thanks everyone for watching! It has been an interesting and educating journey making content. One thing I've come to learn is the impact KZbin's Compression can have on the footage from all these Retro Enhancement Devices. Keep in mind that some detail is always lost with compression. My commentary is in response to what I've experienced from playing on my TV and watching the Raw Capture Files. I've added this info to the description of videos going forward, but wanted to post this comment to all the videos prior to that change. Thanks again for watching, I really appreciate it!

Nice video Mike as always but I made that mistake a couple of years ago and purchased a cheap upscaler that can be found on amazon ,then I made the mistake then of buying a cheap OSSC that was too good to be true and found out it was a cheap chinese knockoff and the device couldn't be updated with firmware so that's when I purchased the Retrotink5X .I'm of the opinion now when It comes to games and tech like these is that you buy good devices that might cost a bit more but you won't be disappointed .I spent more than I should of before the 5X. And thanks for the video on a Sunday which is a day of rest but you don't disappoint 😀

Oh wow, quite the journey. I didn’t realize there were knockoff OSSC floating around out there. I’ve seen tons of versions of the AV2HDMI that I talk about here. And thank you so much for continued support!

Im new on this but S VIDEO is better? And next question is much better play old consoles on CRT TV or LCD TV
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost 8 ай бұрын
S-Video is superior to Composite. Component offers support for higher resolutions and can sometimes offer the more natural color. For consoles like the SNES, component and s-video can have similar levels of clarity. If you are going to play on a modern screen, something like the 2X Pro coupled with S-Video or Component is going to offer a much better experience. Gaming on CRT with these consoles is the original experience and doesn’t require any additional modification or enhancing.

I really want a retrotink, but the 2x mini. It's at the price point I want, but it's sold out and impossible to find ☹️
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
I know, so much of this stuff is routinely sold out. Just gotta keep checking and sub to whatever newsletters or social media alerts you can. That is how I got my RAD2X, which is also one of those “always sold out” items.

I don't know man, I think I still have to give it to the 2X Pro when it comes to color on the N64. While it looks more natural on the AV2HDMI, the vibrancy almost looks like it's remastered in a way and I love that. I personally use the 2X Pro via S-Video with my N64 and it's great. I'd love a 5X but I can't stomach $300 (much less whatever the RetroTINK 4K is going to cost).
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost 10 ай бұрын
I think I’ve come back around on this, the 2X Pro’s colors are great. I just recently did some capture with the 2X Pro using S-Video out my SNES, and it’s damn good. I find myself preferring that more vivid and saturated color nowadays.

You could compare a cheap S-video converter vs Retrotink 2X Pro.

A great suggestion! I’ve found some different types of these online. Some have breakout (or break-in?) cabling with female connections, others are built in ports like RetroTINK. The most interesting thing is that most are higher priced that the AV2HDMI and the Portta Component Video Upscaler I’ve found.

Well, it works.I imagine composite straight to TV looks better than using the $15 upscaler. Composite on TV is most likely a little laggy, not likely an issue going through HDMI tho?
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
It’s been a long time since I went direct to a tv with analogue. I had a 2016 flatscreen TV that still had the 3.5 Video/Audio input that used female RCA inputs on it. I feel like the $15 Upscaler is better than that used to look, but hard to say. I don’t have that tv anymore to test that with, and that was a long time ago, so I may not be remembering it correctly. Didn’t have that particular tv for very long. My current one doesn’t have that type of input.

N64 is a though one. The best way to play N64 so far has been the RAD 2X Nintendo, but with an RGB Modded N64. N64 with straight composite or even S-Video has always been alright with RetroTink to me, but definitely not as clean as some other consoles. KZbin compresses content though, even when a difference is noticeable when I’ve got the raw files to look at, once uploaded some of that becomes harder to see unfortunately, especially on mobile.

@@RetroBoost I only have a snes n64 gamecube and wii for retro consoles. Is the difference worth the $150 for the 2x?
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost Жыл бұрын
I think RAD2X Nintendo would be a pretty good fit for you, it’s cheaper than the 2X Pro and gives the same kind of performance for the SNES that the 2X Pro would give when paired with high end component cabling ($200 or more for all that). It’s performance with a non RGB Modded N64 is okay, pretty similar to the 2X Pro, same for GameCube. You are better off using your Wii for GameCube, since you can more easily get 480p out of it.

Oh wow, I could believe it. I’ve never noticed a heat issue with any of RetroTINK devices, not even the 5X Pro, which has the most going on internally regarding processing and such, it’ll get a little warm to the touch, but I would never use the word “hot” to describe any of them.
