Dude it is not that they didn’t care about Chaos, it is that before they met the Eldar, they knew nothing about it. When the Eldar told them about the Ruinous Powers, the space elves never told them HOW TO DETECT CHAOS CORRUPTION. So we have these people that know about chaos and it’s’ dangers, but have no way of detecting and are trying to find out how to detect and resist it.

6:06 The impression I got was that the Interex had believed it was impossible to travel the warp and not know of Chaos. So when Garviel Loken reveals he has no idea what that is, the Interex guard he's speaking with is flabbergasted moreso than intellectually superior. (Imagine, if you will, a seafaring island culture that has no idea what a whale is). This could have been a diplomatic breakthrough for the two sides (since if they didn't know what Chaos was there's no way they could be its willing pawns as the Interex thought could potentially be the case at that point) had Erebus not stolen the Anathame at that point.

The idea of 40K getting more non-Imperium/non-Chaos human factions is based as fuck. I hope the Interex comes back more wizened and understanding, like how the Tau started off very naive but slowly caught on to the way things work in the galaxy.

I don't believe a low profile attitude toward Chaos for a civilization of that size is an unreasonable attitude for the Interrex. Staying aware of Chaos and keeping it somewhat contained in a more passive manner is much safer than any grandiose plan the Emperor set in motion. That backfired spectacularly and allowed Chaos to thrive and grow by orders of magnitude VS what it might have been before the Imperium was a thing.

I re read the book not long ago i i really don't think the problem was that much the fact the anathame got stolen but the big fire erebus started, even then, the interex wanted to restrain the luna wolves and horus they didn't just started attacking and it is a very logical thing to do, you have an entire army in your city and it catches on fire, you will want to see them surrender their weapons and cooperate to clarify the situation, instead the luna wolves got mad and started acting super suspicious, while everyone except the one guard that spoke to loken still had suspicion that a big armored guy called the warmaster was a khorne follower or something

Xenos weaponry and technology smuggling is a notable black market in Imperial space. Some of the Interex could be selling weapons to smugglers to fund their own personal plans and not really care who ends up with the weapons.

It has to do with the fact that Space Marines are GWs bread and butter, so not much of a reason to make a new human society when everyone is just going to play Chaos or Imperium anyways. Ever since I first read Horus Rising, they stood out to me like a pimp at a wedding, and they were so damn cool the way Dan described them. No idea how they would play, but they wouldn't suck at all. Considering how a lot of their weaponry punched wholes into ceramite armor with ease, how one of them withstood FIVE direct bolt pistol shots without showing outer damage(Loken's POV), and how they incorporate xenos and their tech into their society(Kinda like T'au?), I think they would be a great, shiny alternative to the depressing gothic Imperium.

Could it be that the Constantine Valdor co-opted what was left of the Interex and used them to inflitrate the Cognitae? Constaintine Valdor could not have gotten the spicy tech he has such by stealing it from the Adeptus Mechanicus. Having the remnants of the Interex would be pretty useful to that end. The Interex would no longer risk setting breaking like when the Imperium first found them, since their know how and industrial capacity would have taken a fat L after Horus destroyed them. Also while the interex would deff still be mad at the imperium, the fact that the one who destroyed them also turned on the imperuim killing trillions might make them pin more of the blame on Horus rather then the Imperium; not that they would be all buddy buddy with the Impeirum now.

They may not have lost, but they decided that victory would be too costly and temporary, so they left at almost full strength. Since we have Votans who are more advanced, we can have more human civilizations after the great crusade and heck maybe they are even part of the Votan league or one of the clans.

Hell yeah I would want them back! One of the aspects that always made me love the lore so much was the mystery behind The Golden Age of Humanity. I found it very fascinating how advanced they were and honestly made me both pity and hate the Imperium. Pity because it shows how far they have fallen and hate because in that book you mentioned where the ships AI destroys the Mechanicus there is a part where the GAOT people arrived at the closest planet to warn them about the Cybernetic Revolt. Imagine their shock instead of understanding they find people basically living in the medieval times and were then taken to be interrogated then executed for heresy. Like for a few precise moments The Imperium had people who came from the Golden Age and maybe they could have helped Humanity Advance and become stronger. But no they died because they didn't know about a guy that didn't even show his face yet. The Interex represent something similar in my eyes. An advanced society that shows how despite the cruelty that exists in the galaxy they can still act like civilized being and not drown themselves in bureaucracy and hatred! Also, they were friends with the Eldar and as an Eldar fan that gives them some brownie points in my eyes.

The issue with this theory is that Abnett is very clearly peppering the books with references to his previous works. There is essentially an Abnett-verse that he makes reference to all the time. In Eisenhorn, there's a reference to the Titan comic - which Abnett wrote. In that same sequence, they are throwing flect bombs which are from Ravenor. There's a bit in the first Bequin book where she gets some tea and biscuits that prime Bequin ordered in Xenos. There's a short story called Lepidopterophobia, which has books listed in it that either exist in our world, predict the future, or which don't exist but are hinted at as inside jokes. It's just an easter egg.

A small change that would have made them more understandable would have been this: Have it so the reason they accept that chaos will win is because they're apathetic, and this is because before they ever met the impirium they tried everything they could possibly think of to fight chaos, and none of it made even the slightest dent. So that way when they say they're ok with chaos destroying everything it's because they don't think there's any way to stop it so it's inevitable.

I'd very much like to see either the interex or a similar civilization that wethered the age of strife make a lore or table top return. There was this faction called the FAASH in the Horus Heresy that was very similar to the imperium but didn't wish to join, the space Wolves killed off their civilization over the course of the series of books. But it' would be a refreshing angle in the lore in the imperium nihilist where the astronomical cannot reach older civs who have hide start expanding or come into contact with the imperial on that side of the galaxy. They could be xeno aligned like the demiergue/squats/votan are recorded as being or just as fanatical as the imperials are with xeno but with the adoption of tech and it would lead in my opinion a nice juxtaposition of values in a context that shows the imperium as not entirely right about everything but also shows that it's a baseline for existence. Trade between worlds like between a imperial world to a lost civ world to a xeno world could happen as the imperials see it as work around to achieving their goals to cynically use others to achieve the things they themselves are not permitted to do. Kinda like the Shabbos goy who do all the things the orthodox Jewish community don't do on sabbath to avoid God's wrath. It's just a funny idea I had and to me would make the universe a bit more fleshed out.

Chaos has corrupted the absolute best of humanity. Primarchs, heck, even the robotic custodes, and BLANKS have been corrupted by chaos. So my theory stands as: A: they've been in the process of being corrupted by chaos, and that's why they were apathetic about it, (and those musical instruments reek very much of f-ing chaos) B: the blade was a powerful warp-based tool that'd been corrupted while in the hands of Erebus. And here's an independent shot: they calculated all of the odds, and figured that their technology wouldn't be used correctly to defeat chaos, due to the mechanicus being greedy religious idiots that can't do science; to be fair when mechanicus did find a fully working STC they failed spectacularly at using it for humanity's good. Not to mention all of the dark age level stuff just being hoarded on mars and understand terra. I'm most definitely biased, but I'd go so far as say that the mechanicus are the humanity's biggest problem. 10,000 years and the galaxy's worth of brainpower are more than enough to invent new stuff and to recover the olld, but mechanicus are mechanicus.

Think of this. Instead of just the Interex returning; What if most, if not all the human civilizations, including the Interex and the Auretian Technocracy survivors, banding together and forming a mini coalition of sorts somewhere in the fringes, perhaps along with another alternate advanced like-minded human civilization that has been hidden all along? It would be keep the setting interesting, keeping the space magic while also getting to see more ancient tech.

The funny thing about the term "King in Yellow" form a horror story by Robert W. Chambers with the idea of the King in Yellow being someone who has gone insane because of forbidden or otherworldly knowledge. Ironically the title for Valdor is kind of a spoiler if you think about it or are knowledgeable with the works of lovecraft. In fairness GW and Black Library have not been one for original ideas. Other than that I think that the interex should just stay as a one time thing simply because the universe is getting pretty bloated with factions.

Actually there is a small pocket of interex on a reservation of sorts. But this is also a line of throw away lore so by m42 it may not be the case. Personally I would love it if the reason the Primarchs started coming back wasn't to end chaos/Nids/Ork/etc but because all the different human civs thay got ass blasted by the Empire, or those that have had alliances with xenos or regular interactions start a massive Civil War where the empire actually fractures forcing the xenos races to actually do something other than act as window dressing in lore

I started listening to the monologue of the video with all intention to disagree. However, the more and more he spoke the more I agreed. The only thing I Did disagree with was that the interex are said to control 500 planets in the galactic north. Barring that, the interex are dumbasess full stop. Once he made the point about the kinebranch swords on display, that pretty much ends the discussion. It's not that chaos did them in, their own negligence did. When the conquistadors defeated the Aztec, they destroyed their literature. In some of this literature was step by step instructions on how to make poisons, build weapons etc. Now historians still bitch and complain about how "stupid" they were for destroying history. I don't see it all as black and white like that. I think the Spanish knew this was a serious threat and Stent Weren't thinking about what historian would read about them in 200 years they made a decision that at least didn't harm their survival chances. As far as the interex, their nonchalant attitude about anything other than chaos, caused something that wasn't ostensibly chaos to destroy them. They thought they'll listen tu the Eldar cause, well look at their ears. I wish I had ears like that. Now I run around scared out of my wits about something that I don't even know what it is

I’d love the Interex as a faction . Their energy bows are extremely powerful capable of punching through even a Space Marine's armour from a range. And their centaur armor would provide great mobility and agility on the tabletop. They also possessed automated drones and technology . And unlike the Tau they have plenty of close range options. The Gleves ,warriors of Interex who used long-bladed perfectly balanced metal spears. The Kinebrach had physical strength as well as the anathames, primitive close combat weapons which the Interex claimed were semi-sentient and capable of recognizing a particular target. You could also give them bonuses against chaos.

Canonically in the far away borders of the empire, There are planets/colonies with nearly 0 direct influence of the Administrorum (except Imperial Tithe every 100 or more years) and are more like Self-sustaint / Self-Goverment sectors. Really strange how they didn't become something like an autonomus federation but still allied with the imperium. Like Votann trade with Tau.

they did care quite a bit about Chaos though, the whole reason they turned on Horus is because they panicked and thought that he was on the side of Chaos. If they were so passive to Chaos then they wouldn't have cared when a supposed agent of Chaos was calmly talking to them. They weren't a doomsday cult, they were shitting themselves trying to sniff it out, even writing a book about how evil and dangerous psykers and daemonic powers are
