Beastmen in the guard? What edition was that in? Certainly not in the 2nd edition rulebooks I had. Was that in Rogue Trader? I think beastmen might have been in the chaos army list or something in 2nd edition so perhaps this was a case of fielding really inappropriate allies? One thing is for sure. There were less race specific weapons. What did orks use? Bolt pistols and bolters. What did space marines use? The same. Eldar did have their shuriken weapons etc. by 2nd edition and I don't recall them having bolter weapons in the wargear book. What I remember being frustrating was the sheer number of weapons in the wargear book that came with the 2nd edition game, compared to which of them were actually available in the lists for each faction. It is still a mystery to me as to who you could give a webber.

I only just found this video and with context I love Primaris marines both in tabletop and in lore, but realize the actual amazing part about their inclusion. The player base is going through THE EXACT SAME THING THE CHARACTERS ARE!!! Its a fight between the old way and the new way. I have veteran marine players telling me I know nothing because Im new and I like shiny cool stuff and yeah I DIE A LOT for the exact same reasons my primaris marines die a lot. ITs actually amazing that the community and the lore are experiencing the same troubles. Simply magic.

Warhammer 40 rogue trader was started as a space combat simulation, with the lore as a backround. Nowadays is a strict, confined GAME with a 4 round cycle. 1st edition was for small skirmish encounters of a group of people belonging to the crew of a ´Rogue Trader´ , an imperial Agent at the fringes of the Eimpir. As such a wider varity of personel could included. The concept of playing armys of certain races against each other comes later. So there was seldom a vehicle, and heavy weapon extrem expensiv. And NO character model was allowed to handle one !! The other major failure of the vid are the Tyranids ! As such they don´t eist. 1st edition tyranids were a space born races in the milky way, fragile but have the knowledge of biological engeniring. They inhabited single large ships most accordingly like the eldar crafworlds. Genstealers were seen as a differente race of parasite, born on a certain moon and spread through the galaxie infesting mostly the colossal space hulks. in 1st edition rules you have even stats, that totaly vanish todays like Leadership, Willpower, Techlevel. I never got the purpose of the Reivers. They're terror units, apparently, but I fail to see how they're any scarier than regular marines. If an 8 foot tall raging superhuman charging at you with a chainsword isnt going to make you shit your pants i fail to see why that same 8 foot superhuman in "light" armour with a knife should. They just feel like overhyped Scout Marines to me.

I disagree with the Word Bearers planet. Yeah, they worshipped Chaos, but Logar converted them to worshipping the Emperor. I dont even feel that this would have ever been a problem if it wasn't for the Emperor taking exception to this and punishing Logar for his faith. The second he humiliated and took Logar's faith, he drove him right into the arms of Chaos.

I relate so much to what was said. I too am an Iron Warrior at heart. While I was never held for greatness, I was instead treated as a failure. My brother tormented me, my schoolmates bullied me, and my parents forced me to accept it all for a “better future”. I refuse to let go of the past, I refuse to give up the hatred, the bitterness, the vindictiveness; so I can at least wake up everyday. Gods of order would not necessarily be lame but the development of the tau goddess sure is. Accepting that humans within the tau empire are fueling the gods birth is bad writing and poor plot development imo. It’s grasping and looks desperate . Consider the Emperor took 10’s of thousands of years to develop and a significant power boost from his visit to Moloch. Yet this fraction of the tau empire can birth a God in a few millennia 🤷🏻‍♂️. Gives the impression that creating Gods is not that difficult. Requires a small cult following and hard prayers 🤨. In that case there should be dozens of more Gods. If that’s not enough, consider Slaanesh. Took waaaaay longer to birth that god and it required the focus of nearly an entire race (at least more than half(%50) to come into being. What fraction of the tau empire worships this god… maybe %10 at most. Prolly much much less. Is there even 1 human for every 9 tau. And then is EVERY human praying to this god.
