EvanSol919 That's not even close to being true. Lucas has been changing things since 1995. He said that the VHS tapes were the last time we would ever see the original versions. Four years later, in 1999, The Phantom Menace came out. So, we had four years of tinkering before the prequels disappointed us all.

I actually think Episode VI has the most interesting story of all the Star Wars movies, it's just that the directing and general flow of the movie was a lot worse than Episode V. The movie was a lot slower and less action packed, but the story was awesome and the scene with the Emperor, Vader and Luke is by far my favorite scene from any Star Wars movie

If the ewoks were replaced by wookies it would have made so much more sense, ewoks killing storm troopers? That should have been impossible but wookies they are beasts, they are what you would get if humans and grissily bears had babies, they are badass and could totally take on stormtroopers
@MonkeyMagicMonk9 жыл бұрын
+jamie fuller.... I disagree. You have explained exactly why it would be really stupid for the Empire set up a base next to a Wookie Village- too dangerous. Whereas they underestimated the Ewoks due to their size and they used some guerrilla tactics on the Stormtroopers. If Lucus went with Wookies instead of Ewoks, it would also take quite a major re-write to the middle section of the film. The Wookies wouldn't have captured Han and Luke like the Ewoks did because of Chewy. The Ewoks, on the other hand, were about to cook and eat Han Solo and only stopped when Luke levitated C3PO. That was quite a good scene ... but it would need to be replaced with something else more "friendly" that would resemble the dreadful Holiday Special. Did you see the Hoilday Special? - I think it ruined any chance of the Wookies being used for Return of The Jedi.

My favorite part of Jedi is the Jabba's Palace sequence. I know it takes too long, and so on. But, remember we had just come from Empire Strikes Back, a movie where the heroes never win once. There is only a small victory at the end when the heroes escape, and it's a hollow victory. But that's it. Now, we get to Jabba's palace, and again, the heroes are already loosing. Leia gets captured and put in a compromising position, Han gets captured again, Luke even gets captured and is without his lightsaber. At this point you're like; "Please, just give them one victory, I don't care how small". And then it happens, R2 launches Luke his new lightsaber, and after a badass action scene, the heroes emerge with a great victory, and one of the most satisfying villain death's in film history. This is the point where you're just cheering, and completely pumped up for the rest of the film, because this was the heroes first victory since blowing up the Death Star in the first film. This is why I love the Jabba sequence, and why it's so important to have.

To me the ghost change "broke my back". It was disrespectful to Sebastian Shaw, it made no sense story wise, and it taints the ending because Anakin from the prequel does not belong in the original trilogy at all. It is a completely ridiculous change that just pisses me off. That and Boba Fett's voice change. Other changes like adding extra CGI scenes and characters, changing lines for no reason, and the "no" part were all ridiculous and annoying, but Boba Fett's voice change and the ghost change feel downright disrespectful.

+LeadMuncher09 The prequels established that Boba is a clone of Jango, which is why Temuera Morrison was brought in to re-record his very few lines. thegreeenbeast In all fairness to the Ewoks, they did take a huge pounding. They only excelled with help from the Rebels and while in large numbers against infantry, and with a whole lot of cleverness against vehicles. If they had been Wookiees instead, the battle would probably be over as soon as Chewbacca gave the first Wookiee growl. Plus, let's not forget key fact #1: they're Stormtroopers. "Entire legion of my best troops" means one is allowed to get a lucky shot on R2, a lucky shot on Leia, and hold Han prisoner for two seconds, and kill two Rebel soldiers and a bunch of Ewoks, because they did kill a bunch of Ewoks. They acknowledged the fact that they weren't as potent in a fight as the Empire. "Short help is better than no help"-Han Solo. And those two lucky, wounding shots were against targets without any cover and they were standing still. Yep, still Stormtroopers. They are only accurate against Sandcrawlers while offscreen. Now, if they were Sand People...

+Racist Bassist Luke specifically asks about her "real mother", and therein lies the problem now with the prequels. As the second-born, and with no Jedi training, Leia should be the one with no memory of Padme instead of Luke. The fact of the matter is that Lucas originally planned for Padme to survive, but changed it during production to heighten the drama of Vader's rebirth.

You know how you said you would have preferred Wookies instead of Ewoks? Well, according to sources I've read, one of the original scripts for Return of the Jedi did have Wookies in them. It would have basically been the same thing, except it would have had the Death Star being built over the Wookie's home planet of Kashyyyk. Though later Lucas said that the Wookies were too advanced and wanted a much more primitive race to fight against the Empire, that's where the Ewoks came in.

For me, the showdown between Luke, Vader and Emperor is still the best scene in Star Wars history. And that "entire legion of best troops"... The Emperor was referencing their marksmanship: they can actually hit targets.
@squinteastwood46375 жыл бұрын
I like how everyone puts on their thinking caps when it comes to ROTJ. Everyone always says Ewoks defeating the Stormtroopers is stupid because the Emperor claims they are his best troops. However, in the original film an ENTIRE death star filled with legions of troops cannot catch 3 teenagers, two (extremely suspect) droids and a, very loud, Wookie to escape. People fail to realize the importance of Ewoks in the film. The Ewoks are of diminutive stature, thus deceiving. You underestimate them, but like Yoda said, "Judge me by my size, do you?" They are the wisdom of nature overcoming the technologically superior forces of evil, using the labyrinth of the forest to aid them. Most importantly of all, they parallel the rebels themselves. They prove that no matter how small you are, you can still overcome evil.

I can only make one good argument for why George Lucas changed the ghost of luke's father to Hayden Christensen, it's because obviously the last time Anakin was a Jedi was when he was younger, since that time Anakin has been a Sith, NOT a Jedi, plus it doesn't really make sense why he's an old guy in his spirit form, the last time you see him before he dies, is a crumbled burnt face that looks like humpty dumpty, so why does he look unscathed or unburned in his ghost form? It doesn't really make sense.
@MyProductBrand27 жыл бұрын
Patrick Ward okay no it makes more sense for him to be his old age, yes he was burnt but why not have his spirit form look like him if he hadnt been burned on mustafar like the originals? The whole sequence and scenes of Vader approaching the Temple with the troops and everything were done really well however when it comes to redeeming a character there is a line where there are certain bad things they should not do. Before the prequels I was with everyone else in seeing Darth Vader as redeemed. However Killing Children in the prequels (he does it in both 2 & 3) made Darth Vader in my eyes an unforgivable villain.

savagenature1 I would of rather the clones killed the kids. I mean we have to believe Anakin has some good in him left like Padme said in ep 3 but, I kind of didn't see it at all. To me, after nearly killing his wife which he tried to save by kiling all the jedi and separtists, and killing kids plus siding with Sidous after he chopped of Mace Windu's hand and letting him die, I didn't really see any good in him at all. In ep 6 I saw it more because, well he has a kid and that is the one big thing that Padme left in the world, and what they both had together was luke and leia so, I did end up seeing good in him then. I think he eventually had some good in him once luke came around but before that, fuck no lol

***** I think Luke was turned away from the dark side by his own actions, not the Emperor's words. When he chopped off Vader's hand, he looks at his own prosthetic hand and realized what he had done. He was becoming Vader. And I also think the scene where he checks his hand and grips it while looking at Vader solidified his belief that there was good in Vader: he saw the similarities between them in that moment. The Emperor was just tossing words out the Sith dictionary for extra effect.

I love Luke's reactions when Vader's taunting him when he's hiding in the dark. He's super worried and concerned about his friends and about Leia. I always get goosebumps when I watch that part. :)

I have never minded the Ewoks. They were originally going to have them be Wookies but that would have looked like the Star Wars holiday special was wedging its way into the final chapter. I would have gotten tired of all that growling. I think it's cool how they took on the empire with sticks and stones, sticks and stones! Not CGI.

The firs 30 minutes of the movie, along with the ending are 2 of my favorite star wars moments. The whole Jabba's palace sequence (minus the dance number) is amazing, especially once Luke comes in as a now epic Jedi. Then, there's the RANCOR, the best star wars creature in star wars bar-none. The whole rescue is just awesome to me, and has been since I was a kid. Also, the best moment in the trilogies to me isn't the "I am your father" scene, but Vader's Redemption, again minus the stupid blu-ray changes, but even with it the scene is still absolutely amazing b/c of the redemption. Anyway, ROTJ is my favorite despite flaws b/c as a whole it's just soooo good, and its one of my favorite movies of all time. I know plenty of people would criticize and rave about ESB which I also love, along with the original star wars, but this is the one. Star wars wars goes from 1-6 in terms of worst to best imo.

I think Vader and Luke's conversation on Endor is my favorite part of the movie. Luke tries to convince Vader that he can still break away from the Emperor, but Vader says that it's too late for him. He doesn't say that he likes being a Sith. He doesn't say that he has a choice. He knows that he's become a villain, but doesn't think he's strong enough to change himself. I feel like that really humanized Vader, and gave his character true depth. What's better, is that it's the first time he calls Luke "son." When Luke says that "his father truly is dead", you can tell that it hurts both of them. The scene ends with Vader, staring out the window in solemn contemplation. It really helped to set up the final act in the Emperor's throne room, and it's just a great and powerful scene.

The Ewoks were originally supposed to be wookies...but Lucas said that they couldn't make that many wookie suits because of budget concerns
@Oz197611 жыл бұрын
You're wrong about the Ewoks Jeremy. Get the special edition blue ray set, he talks about the creation of the Ewoks. Endor originally was going to be the home of the Wookies, but due to the popularity of Chewbacca and how he developed as a character who was technologically proficient, he had to come up with another race to use that was primitive to maintain the over-arching theme of the movies that the technologically superior can be undone by the underdog.

Don't know if you'll see this, but there's a great version of the Star Wars movies out there called the "Despecialized Edition." It's made by a bunch of fans to combine all the good new special effects (better looking lightning, not the Anakin replacement) with the original theatrical version. Do some Google searches and watch the original trilogy in its original form.

You know why I really loved the Ewoks? Even though it's rumored that Lucas put them in the film just so he could sell more merchandise, they did play a cool part in the movie. They were the only race that looked so cute and cuddly, yet were still somehow deadly. I liked seeing that. It showed that not every deadly creature in the galaxy had to look big, mean and strong. Sometimes it's the ones you least expect that end up trying to kill. Or help fight alongside you.

Yeah...seeing him as an older Anakin Skywalker totally makes sense. It makes the viewer realize that when he killed the Emperor in order to save his son, he redeems himself and dies being right with the force...turning away from the dark side. Showing young Anakin just confuses people. Like they're trying to make a reference to when he was good ages ago? Wtf?

I know this isn't the strongest one in the series, but it's still my personal favorite. :) The music is gripping, the characters and dialogue are memorable, the effects are great, and it arguably has some of the best and worst deaths in movie history. My favorite parts are Jabba's Palace, Yoda's death, the fight between Darth Vader and Luke and the aftermath. But the best part is when the Ewoks are celebrating to the Victory Celebration/Yub Nub, and you get to see all the other planets celebrating, while everyone's dancing and celebrating, and Luke hangs back and sees Obi-Wan and Yoda's ghost, and all of the sudden Anakin (Sebastian Shaw/Hayden Christensen) appears, and you feel happy and sad at the same time, because you've reached the end of the best movie trilogy of all time. Thank you, Jeremy, because you've helped me come out of my shell critically and say what I want to about movies. Oh, by the way, Revenge of the Sith is #2.

Return of the Jedi is also my favourite. Yes I hate the Ewoks with passion and they were the first sign Lucas was slowly turning insane but that is pretty much the only complaint I have (not counting the special edition garbage). Even after 20 years when I first saw the movie the final confrontation with Vader, Luke and Palpatine keeps giving me goosebumps. The music, dialog and just the general atmosphere is insanely good. No movie since have had the same effect on me.

Agree with you buddy if you've grown up with star wars (The Originals) you loved,them but mostly for the effects, the action and fucking lightsabers man !! But the greatness of Star Wars and the epicness lies in the story about good and evil, it contains everything that gets people emotionally invested in anything: friendship, sacrifice, struggle, temptation of evil and the power of forgiveness and reconciliation in the end.

Who is to say once the original Death Star was destroyed, this one was built to replace that? Perhaps shortly after contraction of the first Death Star started, their was more being built and they prioritized to get number 1 finished to deal with the growing threat of the rebellion. Then put their efforts into finishing the other(s)?

+SmytheSmythe Return, really. Take your nostalgia goggles off. It's insulting to the originals with a terrible/goofy beginning and it never has any high points. The ewoks and the final lightsaber duel suck. It has much better choreography and energy than the previous ones but it's way too short. There are great moments though such as the conversations with Luke and Darth Vader. What a shame. Menace: 7/10 I like it. Jar Jar sucks but he can't bog down the movie. It has one of the best duels ever. Clones: 5/10 Boring romance nice try GL Sith 10/10 my favourite SW movie. Best opening with an amazing space battle with great camera work and you really felt you were there. Best lightsaber duel. And Palpatine is wonderfully played and you buy into his character completely. SW: 7/10 first SW movie so it's understandable it's not that watchable. Best SW ending ever Empire: 8/10 good movie but the ending kinda sux Jedi: 4/10 Force: 7/10 A New Hope 2.0. Also has outdated camera work that even LOTR had back in the early 2000s with long panning camera shots.

Red Key I don't mind those faster paced lightsaber battles, as long as they don't looked too choreographed... like that one from the last battle in episode 3, when Anakin and Obi-wan are just spinning the lightsabers around their bodies, when one of them could just easily take a stab at the other and end the fight
