I think he means that nowadays airsupport is much more useful cuz of thermal image. It helps attack helicopters and planes see better, back to then it was way harder and if the us didn’t have it then they would have lost many battles in Afghanistan and taken many more casualties. It’s the only reason they win many firefights without it then they are as good as dead.

@@joshb7300 Not quite sure I follow, but I think you mean that our troops are fighting a war, one in which there is a hidden agenda? If that's the case, that would be a wrong statement. When our government is involved in some kind of hidden agenda, such as for oil, or valuable gems, or precious metals, the basic troop on the ground does not know, nor need to know that information. Their objective is to train the local populous to be able to fight for themselves, help farmers grow their crops, and even educate children. Our troops do a totally different job, and that is what most of us signed up for. Not to protect our countries riches. That is Political, not Militarily.

They will hold some areas. Even before the war the Taliban did not control the whole country. From the perspective of US politics the war has been a total loss. We are now desperately trying to negotiate the same deal the Taliban gave us before we entered the country. We will probably get a worse deal than had we never invaded. But on the other hand Afghanistan is actually a better country than before we entered. Its still filled with poverty and human rights abuses. But the poverty is not as extreme as before we entered and the Taliban have actually moderated to a degree to gain acceptance in a somewhat more education society. This is kinda the opposite of Iraq. In Iraq we did eventually achieve the political objectives. But in the process the country was set back at least a couple of decades.

Lars Eriksson met a man in a Care Center a few years ago. He was part of a tank crew in WWII. He was stone deaf. He said shooting from inside that tank took his hearing. I visited him often while visiting my Mother-in-Law in the Care Center. Had to actually yell right in his face for him to hear me. He didn't have any visitors because they didn't like to yell at him.

777 burro I think that’s sincerely why our soldiers need air support to keep from getting overrun vs WWII where 14000 us soldiers held off and repelled time and time again an onslaught of 200,000 German soldiers. I know war has changed quite a bit since then but numbers are numbers.

JettyDeke WW2 is so vastly different than the Afghan war it’s hardly comparable. I have to agree with OP, the war in Afghanistan has no real end in sight. Fighting a government just isn’t the same as fighting an idea, the idea will always have resurgence.

ITS YA BOI MIKE WAZOWSKI Well, that’s a great concept and all, but in practice over the past two decades we just haven’t seen enough practical results. It really begs the question what we’re doing wrong. I know we’re there to help people but it just doesn’t seem very effective.

AR or M4 are very fine tools. They do get a bad wrap as not being as deadly and accurate as 762 NATO.... I'm in no way trying to sound like a MARSOC or Green Beret but aren't the 556 NATO more for CQC in a AR or M4? or even a SBR? And 762 NATO (308) more of a hard hitting long distance round? But as i'm building my 2A skills here in rural Nevada, I did come to find and like 556 Green tip, 62 grain @2:44 for my civvie M4 FNH...
