They did stay together; however they didn't resign Hasek. As far as "back to back to backs", this is the NHL (not the NBA where the same teams make the playoffs every year) competition in the NHL is more unpredictable where a stanley cup championship team can go AWOL and miss the playoffs two years later or fail to contend the next year.

BUGZ Had they got better scoring in the playoffs in 03 and 04, they win another Cup easily. They ran into Giguerre and Kiprusoff who played their best ever. People forget that CuJo played great in those playoffs, just got out-dueled by two studs. 2006, year after the salary cap comes in, Legace just wasn’t a true number one starter and Osgood got hurt before he was to make a start in the playoffs. Roloson played very well for the Oilers in that round too.

You put this team and every player in their prime against a prime Oilers team. Detroit would win 3-0. Why? Two time hart winner and only goaltender to do so, dominik hasek. Lets not forget he bested a stacked canadian team in the Olympics. In the most competitive games he finds a way to steal or win the game for his team. Ok not only do the wings have hasek, but stevie, hull, luc, lidstrom, datsyuk (4th line center) and etc. Im sorry but there is no way in heck no other team can close to beating this detroit team in their prime. All 4 lines have hall of fame players. Thats absolutely insane!!!!! I get Edmonton has Gretzky, Messier and etc. However, this detroit team was so much deeper and lidstrom could shut wayne down. Also you could have Jiri fisher throwing a huge hit on him as well or Shanny or the grind line. Its just insane to look at that line-up and realize this was once a reality.
