Um actually Patroclus isn't immediately killed by Hector. In wearing Achilles's armor and tricking the Greeks into thinking Achilles had rejoined the fighting, he managed to inspire the Greek troops (who had previously been losing the war) and turn the tides of the war in favor of the Greeks. He led the surge which saved the Greeks from losing. THEN he was killed by Hector.
@jazzy48302 жыл бұрын
While Patroclus manages to lead Achilles men and bolster the Greek army, the action itself doesn't actually turn the War in the Greeks favour (the Trojans aren't routed but retreat and Patroclus is killed after disobeying Achilles and pursuing them). Achilles actual return and subsequent killing of Hector arguably has a much larger impact. However the Greeks were not able to directly break the siege, only driving the trojans to be more defensive behind the city walls which lead to a more drawn out siege which caused the Greek alliance to grow more unstable as interest waned and time and resources were being expended. The Greeks were still not effectively winning and Agamemnon was against the clock, hence the need for Odysseus' wooden horse. Also while Patroclus was indeed wearing Achilles armour, In Homer's Iliad it is not actually said that he was 'tricking' either Achilles own men the Myrmidons, or anyone else including the Trojans. The myrmidons would likely have known as Achilles sent Patroclus in his stead after gathering his men to keep the battle away from the ships to keep to his earlier assertion that he would not fight except to defend the boats. Also Hector is intentionally killing Patroclus rather than mistaking his identity as he is asked by Glaucus after the death and desecration of Sarpedon.
@jazzy48302 жыл бұрын
but of course this can come down to which version of the story you look at, while Homer's Iliad is often considered the definitive version, he would have been separated from the events of the story by many years and the events would have been passed on by word of mouth etc, changing every time. Many of the storytellers would have cared more for entertainment value than accuracy, hence the insertion of all the mystical aspects, and it would have even been hard at the time to get a full and accurate picture of events. Even in the write up, it was likely altered to fit better as a poem, but if you ignore the merits of historical accuracy and treat it as a story produced by Homer inspired by stories of the war you will probably have a better time.

The trill weren't wrong in their re-association taboo. It is to ensure that new hosts get to live their own lives along with the symbiotes. To allow new hosts to simply live former lives would be more parasitic as you would not have two hosts giving up their lives for two symbiotes to simply be immortal. Without a taboo on re-association you would be trapping hosts into past lives rather then allowing them to be a new unique person.

They are still allowed to talk to their previous romantic interests, but they cant be romantically involved. I also think when it came to Ezri, she didn't really have an identity for herself yet and wasnt given the proper training and integration her previous hosts were given. Sisko and the crew were able to sort of fulfill this role and serve as a s safe space/therapist/reintegrate coordinator for Ezri. But overall it sounds like Ezri was given far less attention and priority than Jadzia was by the Trill Symbiote Commission (and perhaps the writers).

@georgeparkins777Ай бұрын
You know, that’s an angle I hadn’t considered but I don’t know if it washes with what we know of the Trill. In fact I’ll argue that it really doesn’t. When they join, the symbiont doesn’t take over the host, they become one blended person. It’s compared (this is an argument made onscreen in a different episode in fact) to mixing salt and water: they form a solution in which they’re completely absorbed into each other. There’s definitely an aspect in which Jadzia Dax and previous Dax hosts are treated like the same person, but it’s more that each host lives on in the symbiont, and each successive host in turn becomes one with the symbiont AND all previous hosts. So it’s not JUST the Dax symbiont and the Kahn symbiont choosing to have a relationship against the wills of the Lenara and Jadzia hosts, it’s all the hosts and both symbionts making that choice. The actual argument the Trill put forward is that the point of becoming a joined entity is to experience new things and that to reassociate with former partners is to stagnate. The episode is very clear that whatever the social utility that Trill society sees in having this law, it’s still very wrongheaded in that it keeps people who really love each other from being together, for reasons that are more philosophical than practical… like, I might add, laws against same-sex relationships, which is what this episode is an allegory for.

For Example, if you name your character [460] you will get a Mermaid Pendant any time any NPC says your name in dialogue. This can also be used to get the Bouquet without Pierre.

I am a jeweler. So D - Z happened because A - C used be used by random diamond graders but it all ment different things based off where you got thebstine . when it was standardized they switched to the new system so people wouldn't confused it with the old grading style. D - Z through is more specific and more accurate then the old. D is a colorless diamond and Z is borderline fancy color. Once you get past z they get more valuable as the true intense color diamonds are hard to find. A - C are still used but for gemstones like sapphires, ruby, etc. Clarity - FL stands for flawless and as you go down in grading the letters in front stand for how aggresious the inclusions, or flaws, are. I3 = included level 3 think like those icy walmarts diamond studs for 50 bucks

on stardew valley IIRC most of the npcs are alright with gay relationships, one exception is George who if you marry his grandson Alex as a male character will say "“How can two men get married? It's unnatural... Hmmph. I guess I'm just "old fashioned"...” but later (when George is at 10 hearts) he says "I'll admit, I thought it was... strange... for two men to be together. My hardcore Christian, anti-gay GF at the time was a Trekkie when that DS9 episode came out and she wrote a letter to TV Guide defending it, pointing out that "as all true Trekkies know" [her words] the Trill are "its" not hes or shes, so the so-called "homosexual" relationship was just fine. It got published. Also, in the TNG episode which introduced Trill, at the end the Trill whom Beverly Crusher fell in love with, its humanoid host died and it was implanted into a new female host which tried to continue the relationship with Crusher. And in the context of that episode there's no taboo against continuing the relationship or homosexuality. Also also, in the original bible for TNG Geordi was gay. When Q temporarily ages up Wesley Crusher from an early teen to an adult Geordi says, "lookin' good Wes!" Also also also, Riker doesn't try to get it on with all the Klingons just with two female Klingons. Tactics Officer: They are inquisitive. They would like to know how you would endure. Commander William T. Riker: Endure what? Lt. Klag: Them. Commander William T. Riker: [looks at the women] One or both?

Um, Actually…there is some causation in the correlation between the spike in sex related injuries and the widespread popularity of 50 Shades of Grey. While people who were not accustomed to the bdsm/kink lifestyle found the books exciting. The majority of the bdsm/kink community objects to 50 Shades because it romanticizes the dangerous acts without describing or emphasizing the safety protocols that are foundational elements in the lifestyle.

Um, Actually, "Spirited Away", from Studio Ghibli in 2001, and "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train", from Ufotable in 2020, grossed higher than "Your Name". Spirited Away was the highest grossing anime and Japanese film for 19 years before being dethroned by Mugen Train in 2020.
@stryed11112 жыл бұрын
Unadjusted for inflation, Your Name grossed higher than Spirited Away. Additionally, Mugen Train wouldn't beat out Your Name/Spirited Away until several months into 2021 (around april/may), which would be after this episode was filmed in early 2021.

Um actually, Wesley does not return to Florin at the start. They are on a ship in a body of water between Florin and Guildar when they first see Wesley. By the time Wesley catches up, they have already landed in Guildar. There is no direct evidence that Wesley reaches Florin. On the other hand, there is never a very good explanation as to how Wesley knew what they were up to and managed to show up at the right time. So Maybe he was in Florin and saw them. But then why did he let them get on the boat? So really, he never returns to Florin until much later in the movie when he is captured by the six fingered man.

Also, um actually, there really isn’t any indication that Buttercup isn’t a princess. She certainly wasn’t born a princess. But it’s not impossible that being betrothed to the crown prince comes with the title of princess. Considering Humperdinck publicly introduces her as Princess Buttercup and royalty is generally very fixated on titles, this is actually the most likely explanation. Also, it’s fairly clear that she is the titular character. So she is a princess, even if she wasn’t born a princess.
@christinescaduto62802 жыл бұрын
If we use the book (and it's fair that we're not, because she's a princess in the book before her wedding),there's a bit that talks about the Man in Black, with "flashing gray eyes" listens to the engagement pronouncement with anger in his heart from a dark corner of the royal courtyard place. So, he's definitely in Florin at some point and is just keeping tabs on Buttercup, I think.

@simonwilliams92852 жыл бұрын
RIGHT!! that futurama one had me jumping out of my seat lol, because 1. he didn’t get infected by the worms on purpose 2. he was never “good” at playing the instrument nor did he learn how to properly play it; he just made a deal with the Robot Devil to borrow his arm for the concert 3. Fry and Leela DID get married in the series finale, but they’re technically reverted to their pre-married selves when the professor breaks them out of their frozen reality, which kind of creates a Schrödinger’s marriage situation (Fry and Leela are simultaneously married AND yet-to-be-married, so saying that they are one or the other would be both true and false)

Um, actually, you all sweetly and lovingly remember Fry giving up his high intelligence to prove his love for Leela, BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENED. What actually happened was Fry gave up his intelligence to prove to everyone else that LEELA actually loved him and not just his newly found intelligence AND THEN when he reveals what he did to Leela she IMMEDITELY dumps him and walks out laving him alone in a fancy restaurant. Then Fry goes home and cries, plays the holophoner one last time to create a childish crayon drawing of Leela, then cries more as the screen fades to black. It was one of two episodes that made me cry and although I continued to watch the show, from that episode on I hated Leela and the writers for how they treated Fry and I will never forgive them for what they did to that poor animated man.

But Fry never actually learns the Holophone properly, in the ending of the series he has improved but his holograms are still leagues below proper play.

Um, actually in the novel it says Prince Humperdink can't marry a common subject, so they make her Princess of Hammersmith, Goldman tells us in the "Good Parts" abridgement that S Morgenstern spent 72 pages in this chapter to recount Buttercup's training to be a princess. So yes, she didn't start out as a princess, but she is one by the time she's ever kidnapped. Also as people have already stated here.
