I hope you had more to hydrate with than 1 can of 7up. Sounds like it was a hike! I would have brought something more to dig with but it seems like you found enough! Congrats on 45! You got 3 years on me.

Pine sap is very beautiful..It is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent that treats and bandages wounds like a two-for-one. The softer sap can even be chewed like gum for colds and sore throats. Pine sap can also serve as a waterproofing for seams in boots, boats, and containers.

That dendritic opal is gorgeous Nate! Im glad you could find it again. It is really beautiful. The colors and the dendrites in it make it really unique for common opal, and really sought after for jewelery! and some of your pieces were quite large and looked to be fairly solid and without as many fractures as one would expect for a common opal that has been through the intense heat cycles and fires that area has been through. But you had it fairly protected and i think you really need to go back, with geopicks and shovels, at the least, and another person for sure. Now that you have your cache out of there, it will go faster with help and since it sounds like it isnt an easy trek to get to the area, having another person you trust, will make the heavy digging much easier, because you cant just go back tomorrow and pickup, without so serious hiking to get there. But i believe, after that last nodule you found, that there is much more there, waiting to be discovered. After All, this is a quest! Thank you for sharing and i cant wait to see this material cleaned up, and to see what you do with it. And i look forward to see if you find a helper and if you go back to that area and search under ground!

I wish I had friends that do cool stuff like this to hang out with. I don’t know anyone else that is interested in geology. I found a lot of cool gems and stones when I was living in Germany 2020 to March of 2022. I also see you carry the Buck 119 special. Classic.

Hi Nate. Is the pine sap the same as copal, or a different species of tree? Will you please make a follow up video on how you'll be cleaning the pieces of opal and cutting, shaping? Isn't it risky to tumble? It would be greatly appreciated to see the final opals glowing in their beauty🤗 Thank you for all your time and work making this video.
@QuestForDetails

Yes tumbling can bust it all up, might just do the fragments already too small for other purposes, the larger we will slab and shape into things, I'll show it all for sure! Thanks for watching!

Without telling where you are collecting the common opal, I do know that when you are on federal land you do need a mining claim filed, if only to protect yourself and have the right to remove the opal and keep everyone else from moving in on your find. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

It's good idea for sure to file a claim sometimes.here unless it was a bigger strike, I probly won't try to claim it. otherwise I'm allowed my daily 15 lbs ( for personal use) if I was mining for profit is where the permit comes in . Just collecting still, prospecting. And hoping it's worth claiming...that would be nice🙂 hope spring eternal, thanks for watching!

@@QuestForDetails we can only get a permit for the day we ask for it, unless you come in on a Friday and they give a permit for the weekend. It closes on the 1st of September. Only open 2 months out of the year now. Guess there's been a lot of shady people up there tearing everything up, cutting lock and basically trashing the place. Only allowed one 5 gal bucket per person now. All it takes is one to screw it up for everyone else. I might just take you up on the offer though.

Hey Nate, what a fun discovery! Looks like it’s been about 7 months since you’ve found the opal. I would love to know if your going back soon? We’ve had so much rain, more treasures probably have been exposed. Those dendrites are beautiful. Those hills are similar to what is in Livermore. Loved exploring them when I was younger.

How much jewelry did you make from this beautiful opal find. After you cut and tumble it I mean. The stones are always so interesting and I am so curious about what is made of them afterwards.

Congratulations. There are more than one seam and vein out there I wont ever make it back to to continue working. Im never discovering out my precious claims let alone go get new ones after the Chrysocolla. Polishing with cerium seals the opals if they are not too crazy by nature.
