Going to apply to them as soon as I finish with my bachelor's :)! I've been looking at their applications since I was 17!

You're definitely a changed person when you come back. You gain a great respect for what you have and surprisingly you can live on very little.

@XLOVESiTx pretty much like all federal level jobs that are prestigious to get into. I would say that yes, Peace Corps is a looonggg process. luckily I am almost done. I started in Feb. Got nominated in June, and just sent my medical clearance forms (wasn't able to do it until now just returned from internship in Istanbul) Yea my recruiter pretty much is always having to guess where I'm at. love it. Horse meat is good btw. I lived in kyushu for 2 yrs, and its their specialty. horse sashimi

How do you go about joining the peace corps or a humanitarian aid mission? I see videos and hear about the violence and poverty going on in the world. Lately I figure there's people that talk then there's people that do. I want to actually go out and try to make a difference. I'm 23 and single with only a job cooking at a restaurant so I have nothing to lose and want to try and make a difference while I'm still young and have a chance to.

I want to thank everyone, who has joined and worked in the Peace Corps. I try to be a one woman's Peace Corp, where ever I am in the world.

My advice to you all returning Peace Corps Volunteers is go back to school or join the military. Civilian jobs aren't easy to come by at this time. Try to go Green to Gold and become an Officer. ( I was in the Peace Corps then joined the military after working in Law Enforcement because it wasn't taking me anywhere)

+Love L It's different for everyone. Many of us have done well without having to join the military or going back to school. I am a RPCV and it didn't required me to do either of the things you mention to find work.
@southerntiger31078 жыл бұрын
+Myrna Chicas Good for you... The military isn't for everyone. I won't push the military on anyone. I am sure there's a lot of opportunities without going to the military or to school for an RPCV. Where did you serve in the Peace Corps?

Guatemala 2004-2006 El Salvador 2006-2007. In my experience having Peace Corps in my resume has been a huge boost. I am back in school however, not because lack of work (I am an international English teacher) but to improve on the degree I already have.

@coopz7777777 Please stop posting this comment. I understand that there are risks to joining the Peace Corps as there are risks any time you travel. I am female and will one day join. There are and will always be terrible things that happen in this world, but that is what the PC is for. You have to look at everything, not just the good or bad. I'm sorry you had such a terrible time, but remember, a higher percentage of millitary members die during service than PCVs. And PCVs don't have to kill.
