Subaru agreeing to be "that person" would keep Beatrice bound by the promise she made to Echidna, so she would never really be free to make her own choices.

Subaru actually did do the second trial by the way. He did the first one which was the one about his past and his parents and the second one was his unthinkable present every time he was killed.

He didn't even survive the visions on his own, he needed to be saved from it which implies the trial was interrupted (Echidna said that had he continued then his mind would've worn off by the trial)

@@chelronin7843 No worries, I can't really speak with certainty as I only read the WN (rough draft for the LN that anime is based on) and it was never explicitly said that he lost. It was heavily implied in a few ways though, such as the witches spectating him attempting the second trial and one of them remarked that it's starting to look really bad for him, causing Echidna to send Carmilla to save him. Echidna also apologized, saying that she did not expect him to get so overwhelmed by the trial (she expected that since he passed 1st easily, 2nd and 3rd will be a breeze due do his experience with RBD)

If Subaru straight up told Beako "Your mother never cared about you and just made up 'that person' to entertain herself." then she would either not believe him, or she would believe him and fall into even more despair because her last 400 years of loneliness would have just been a joke to someone she trusted. If Subaru instead told her "I am that person.", then he'd have an easy way to get her on his side, but he would get a Beako that still believes the lies Echidna told her (because the "that person" story ended up being true) and would STILL keep holding on to an empty book, hoping it will tell her how to live her life. Just like he didn't opt to just make the deal with Echidna and solve the trials for Emilia (which would have left her broken, traumatized by the first trial and never able to solve it) but instead chose to support her and have her be strong, Subaru is rejecting the idea of "that person" because it is a prophecy that left Beatrice weak, depressed and lonely.

That is often misunderstood. Echidna only sealed his memories of the tea party from after their very first meeting until the start of their second meeting where Subaru asks her if he can be allowed to remember her and she agrees. Hell, at the end of the big tea party with all witches Echidna even tells Subaru what Garfiels fears are so he can use that information and then explains that she is only telling him this because “She doesn’t want him to remember all the other witches as having been good at heart and only her having been evil.”, which pretty much spells out that she is not planning to seal those memories away again. After the last teaparty, when Subaru wants to enter the temple again and can’t, he remembers that he didn’t agree to her last contract and realizes she must have locked him out because of that. When Roswaal calls his ambitions greedy, he remembers how Echidna said the same words before and proudly agrees that he is in fact greedy and so on and so forth.

"Subaru didn't do the second trial" - He did. I want to say a few things but the patrons probs already filled you in but If not... They cut out a bit of inner monologue from Subaru as to why he said that he couldn’t be “that person” for Beatrice. Basically being that he can’t decide for her or else she would never be able to truly move on from the book. Also another thing for when you said Subaru had never done the second trial. Technically he did... but because of his situation with “return by death” it made it near impossible to do because every death will turn into a trial.

I can't speak for them, but it's not unfathomable to have found this season less enjoyable... I would say it was basically on these last few episodes where I found my interest renewed, personally. Both season parts were about one long arc, sometimes there is a lot of talking and yeah, maybe they're not the most passionate Subaru fans, but when has that been a crime?

@@to_yin3405 Rezero is a psychological show with a heavy emphasis on dialogue and moral themes. The long dialogues are part of what make Rezero so great. People that aren’t into that shouldn’t even watch the show since it’s such an essential part of it. Also, while amazing, season 1 is completely outshined by season 2. There’s a reason even people that hated Rezero like it now. That aside, people that don’t like Subaru do so for the dumbest of reasons (“he’s not cool, he cries too much, if that was me I could do so much better, he’s not making the choices I would make, he’s too flawed, etc.”). People that actually take time to analyze the show, it’s characters, and the psychology behind both get how top-tier Subaru is. By season 1, he had far more complexity than most MCs get in an entire show. In their case, they don’t like Subaru because of shallow reasons, mostly the Rem stuff, which is a pretty common one. It’s really just immature bitterness, which most Rem fans tend to have, unfortunately.

It's all fine and good that you and some others enjoy it this much, no contesting there! I too have some shows that I love so hard but I understand that not everyone will be able to feel the same. As for the fact that you think they don't like Subaru because of Rem it feels a bit generalizing, imo. Once again, can't speak for them but to me Sheera and Roshi don't seem to mind Subaru. Lupa does seem to not like him but like I said I really don't think that is a crime, people are free to dislike characters and stan others according to what they like or dislike. What character trait might be bearable for you could be unbearable for another person. As for not watching a show just because you don't like it as much as the next person, I don't think that's waranted tho. No one should police what others should or shouldn't watch. Basically just trying to say people will have different feelings for one thing and that's not a crime
