Regarding James from Canada and his experiments....it reminds me of an old story about a very old building, used as a hotel, where a chair mysteriously moves from the corner by the window to the middle of the floor overnight. They insist it's spooky, ghost activity etc but ignore the fact that the narrow, cobbled street is pedestrianised during the day but open to delivery vehicles at night. So vibrations from vehicles can be transmitted through the building and cause things to move, very slowly.

In Jacqueline's mind, her testimony IS the reason why she believes. This is a big hurdle to get over on both sides of the conversation. The caller believes BECAUSE she is convinced that the God who created the universe, took the time out of his busy schedule to personally help her out of her problems and made her life better. Skeptics say that is not a good reason, but to her, it is a GOOD reason, it is the BEST reason, and often, it is the ONLY reason. Everything else mentioned is secondary because it does not affect her personally. This is frustrating for both sides. Forrest, I have been an educator for a long time as well, I understand your approach, but realize that we are not going to reach everyone. There is a time when we hit a wall and we need to recognize that and let it go. Then hope that we have planted the seeds of doubt which may sprout later, and another person may sow the fruit of our labor.

I could almost feel her pausing to think for half a second at times, but then she started repeating the sermon phrases like a broken record. And I can honestly understand her. It's extremely difficult to think independently and fight those thought stoppers if you're indoctrinated. I have experienced it myself. (Also this line made me laugh: "I watched 10000 children starve to death and I was like: 'oh fuck, well what are you gonna do' [shrugs his shoulders]") Anyway, I just wanted to say. Jacquelin's beliefs lead to several direct contradictions. If she believes in heaven, and thinks that anyone that never hears about heaven goes there directly; then ending the existence of a baby is the most "morally good" action you could commit. As soon as everyone is born, just kill them and express ticket to heaven. If Jacquelin thinks she would go to heaven right at this moment, then killing her is "morally correct" because you prevent her from sinning and force her soul into heaven. Her beliefs directly support heaven-justified killings; this is not "murder" because murder is unjustified killing, whereas heaven-justified killings are the most moral act. If god functions outside spacetime, and people who give deathbed confessions go to heaven; then god already knows which serial killers are going to heaven before they commit any murders. Her god has already forgiven some serial killers, while they are murdering someone; maybe god uses serial killers to send specific people to heaven, so it could too be justified under her beliefs. Jacquelin's god concept is broken on basically every level it can be examined. She worships a clearly evil deity, and she defines obedience to this evil god as "good"; her entire moral system is backwards.

At 04:48:00 I just have to say: I respect you Jimmy for hosting this show but you're utterly wrong. I NEVER watch these shows (and yes I do watch trans-atlantic) for the "haha gottem" feeling. I hate seeing people upset or angry. Forrest did exactly what a good educator does. Your impression of how bad people are (viewers like me) is incorrect but also hurtful to people like me. I want Jaqueline to be happy on her own terms. Not for the sake of glorifying a god. I like Forrest, because he is a real genuine person. He is living proof of a good person imo. And yes, you have problems recognizing your own virtues of good sides, but when you compared Jaqueline to yourself as in: I did that when I believed, YES! And you changed eventually. Because you think critically, and you are good. Whether you hate that or not. Forrests 14 rounds was nice to hear because I understand not understanding something because the angle is too difficult for me. Him giving more angles is just... nice. Anyway yea. It pissed me off a little I guess but I probably misheard or misinterpreted what you said.

I like Jimmy but I suspect he (and myself!) Both had someone do exactly what Forrest did for Jacqueline. I had multiple people telling me the same thing over and over slightly differently, bashing their heads against that mad buggers wall (hehe reference), and eventually it helped me to see how insane the things I was saying were. I was disappointed to hear Jimmy not recognize this, but maybe his deconstruction was very different from mine.

Jaqueline sounds a ton like several of the Mormons I grew up with before deconverting. She comes only armed with her testimony because she has a mischaracterization of what an atheist actually is, and what should be convincing. I was taught in church that any feel-good bullshit that comes out of my mouth passes within the congregation, and that walking in with just the determination to bring god to someone was enough to be convincing. Testimony is supposed to be the end-all be-all, and the first explanation that comes to mind is supposed to waive all opposition. When I’ve seen these kind of people receive some real resistance, they usually go in one of a few ways. I’m worried she won’t take the time to critique her own beliefs and actually confront the problem of evil, instead opting to double down into them.

I have as a bored kid would squint looking at lights sources, people and objects and even when I have watery eyes due to allergies or swimming in a pool or sea has seen people look "tree" like where their silhouette looks like skinny bodies. I'm sure some people would describe that as "tree-like". Seriously, you can do this experiment this instant by putting your hand infront of a light source squint and you can make your can look like its skinny. It's also similar to how those x-ray "Glasses" make it seem like you are looking through someone or your hand. SO MUNDANE!

Idk if anyone from the show is gonna see this comment like a year later, but I think I have some insight into why that last call was such a grind. Forrest was basically (in his role as a benevolent educator) trying to coax this woman into committing what she sees as blasphemy. She can't let herself admit to what's staring her right in the face because she's terrified God will punish her. I do think seeds were planted, but she's gonna have to chew on it for a long while if/when the initial fear dies down.
