The pockets on the front don't have any kind of flap to prevent water from collecting in them in heavy rain conditions. My old and comparatively cheap heli-tech jacket from 10 years ago has flaps on all the pockets that take into account the rain's habit of going places it shouldn't by placing rear facing flaps protecting the external pockets. That would be my complaint about these motorcycle jackets.

Two quick question, are we sure that this does not come with a thermal liner? Any news regarding release dates for US and EU?

Spyridon Konstantinidis This is correct, it does not have a thermal liner. As for release, it should be available in April in the US. We don't know about Europe though. -DrewZilla

If you get something with a goretex shell and no thermal liner, a gerbing coreheat 12 liner would fix that easy. :) I am currently retrofitting the electricals on my CTX for gerbing products.

If I remove the goretex layer of this vest, would I be able to use the thermo layer of my poseidon jacket inside this one? I really like the poseidon jacket, but I'm disappointed that over the years it stopped being water proof. this inner layer looks more durable.

You could wear the thermal liner, but you won't be able to attach it to the jacket. You'd be better off just wearing a standalone thermal mid-layer with the Defender Pro. -DrewZilla

having a hard time deciding, defender, neptune or poseidon XD 1 is cheaper for sure but not to be discarded. the other two are awesome though.

+Oneindig318 First decide whether you want a fixed or removable Gore-Tex Liner. If you want a removable Gore-Tex liner, then the Neptune is definitely the better value. However, the Defender Pro is made with even stronger fabric than the Neptune, hence the higher price. -DrewZilla

Went for the Poseidon in the end :), the defender is actually shorter as well and this would not solve my long upper body issue (getting a wet belly n more). And the neptune only has a single short zip instead of a full around the waist one. the fixed (and laminated) liner is nice altho atm still a bit stiff. but it covers me proper, solid connect to the pants, i think im good for a few years now :D

Mitsaras Giannikis The Defender Pro is easier to adjust quickly, but the D-Explorer has more ventilation with all the panels opened. If you like REV'IT! or have REV'IT! pants already, stick with the Defender Pro. If you already have Dainese pants, go for the D-Explorer. -DrewZilla

Does this jacket fit like the Voltiac jacket I tried on the Voltiac this weekend and a XL fit me perfect. Watching the review here with HVB I think I would wear L I'm 6'2" 180 LBS 44Inch chest and I wear a 33 waist in my jeans. Maybe this Defender Pro runs on the Larger side.

+roger jensen HVB has a 42" chest, and size large is snug around the chest. Therefore, I'd recommend getting size XL like the Voltiac to accommodate your 44" chest. With the side waist adjusters, you can get a slim fit through the midsection. -DrewZilla

It will never look brand new, but with proper washing and care (with something like NikWax Tech Wash and TX DWR), it doesn't age too much. It shouldn't turn brown. -DrewZilla

+roger jensen No, the inner rain liner is not large enough to fit over the jacket. Only the Held Camaris offers an over/under Gore-Tex liner. The Poseidon uses a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane that is bonded with the outer material, and the Poseidon has a removable thermal liner. The Defender Pro uses a removable Gore-Tex liner and does not have a thermal liner. Because the Poseidon's Gore-Tex membrane is bonded to the shell, the jacket breathes better in the rain. Bought the defender pro gtx set few weeks ago. Had a chance to test it in heavy rain. It's out of this world how this set works in rain and warm conditions. Exceptional. Love it. Dry as pepper. I've chosen the defender over poseidon because I wanted to have goretex inside the jacket. When you damage goretex in poseidon set, which is inside the outer material your goretex waterproof is over. That is an argument not to buy poseidon set. Tnx for your effort revzilla! Love your reviews.

I completely agree. I was looking at Mosko Bags and they explained that's why they put water resistant on the outside and water proof on the inside: if the item gets damaged, it's still water proof. Thanks Darek, you made something complicated simple. + I think the defender looks nicer too!

I have an Andes v1 jacket and pants, looking at updating, btw just watched the Andes review from 4 years ago and its hilarious how you 2 have changed (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH7FnqBop5mUmrs). Anyway, my question is, as the Gore Tex layer on the Defender is removable, does it mean that, when it's off, the jacket is not waterproof anymore? Is removing that layer only for warmer weather? You have the outer jacket, then below that is the removable Gore-Tex liner. Even with the Gore-Tex liner in, the outer jacket will still get wet in heavy rain. However, your body will stay dry inside the Gore-Tex liner. Removing the Gore-Tex liner gives you more ventilation for hot weather riding. -DrewZilla
