Gurkha recruits have competed in a shooting competition to reveal the 'top shot' of the 2020 intake.
The annual event at Wathgill Camp, North Yorkshire, went ahead as planned despite the cancellation of the Army’s famous shooting competition at Bisley due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Britain is very fortunate to have such a relationship with Nepal and the Gurkha's. I have always thought, as an outsider, that Gurkha numbers should be greatly increased for your army. It is tough in western societies to produce soldiers with their zeal for service, and the lack of outside distractions our kids often have.

Always on the lookout for potential marksmen , Fact that the Brigade of Gurkhas always excel themselves every year in the Team and individual skill at arms meeting held at Pirbright and Bisley ranges , back in the day it was known as the Regular Army Skill at arms meeting (RASAM) where individuals and teams compete in a number of combat shooting matches , individuals progress through stages with the final top one Hundred shooting off for the coveted Queens medal , which sees the top shot carried up high in a chair off the ranges at Bisley , today anyone making it to the top 100 gets awarded the army 100 badge which is now worn on the no 2 uniform , the Gurkhas have produced many queens medal winners , note the top team in my day used to go over to Canada to represent the British Army in the Canadian military championships.

Absolutely outstanding to see these motivated, dedicated young men attack Army training with such gusto! With a kill ratio like that one can understand that foes are right to dread the knowledge that the British Army Gurkhas are coming; oh, and they've just completed their basic infantry training. Now in 2023 The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) are the British Army Operational Shooting Competition Champions 2022. After months of intense training, 1 RGR just beat 2 RGR to the title at Bisley where the competition takes place annually. lol

What range do they have to shoot a target from to win the competition? 300M? or longer?

Depends on the shoot. Some shoots start at different lengths. One I did started with a 2km run with 25kg. Then 700m shoot, 600/500/400/300/200/100/50/25/10/5 Last 3 done with Pistol.

That is because firearms are noisy, dirty and dangerous and no reasonable human being would want to have anything to do with them. Which makes me an unreasonable human being - and proud of it. Nothing will close down any activity in the UK quicker than some humourless gump coming along and saying "Ohhh, that looks DANGEROUS". Then the health and safety nazis will arrive at the gallop and put lots of warning signs linked with red and/or yellow tape around the place. I have never heard anything negative about the Gurkhas. Au contraire, their faithful service is legendary amongst those who know anything about warfare, particularly when you consider the shabby treatment the British when their services were no longer required . They look like little irreverent schoolboys in camo kit while they are doing drills that are actually training in disguise but, when the Very lights head into the sky, they become loaded weapons looking for targets to be destroyed with extreme prejudice. You want to be on their side. God protect the Gurkhas (that is directed towards any and all gods that may be listening).

Its amazing what the living standards do to people when they grow up As someone who grew up in the european union (Brexit höhöhöhöhöhö) well in Europe It is not as attractive to join the army as it was 100 years ago These people from Nepal grow up with a very low living standard The british army gives them a cause to fight for their own future so they worship the training much more Its nice to see
