I just reseved a message from a friend about this episode! I had to watch it to see if every thing was correct told. I did not expect this to be told in english, but hey I am a dinosaur at sosial media;) What my friend Mattis tell you here and my self by translation is true!.... Verry sadly information at that time. But what else could i do then listen to cardiolog specialists. I can tell you not by name or sport. But after 2015 and above i have met several people that reach my heart size. They did not get the same response as i did. In Norway they started a big study about steroid use and health conditions. I know personally several people attending this big test. They wanted to research more about steroids and possible health issues. The results where abit scoking for me, when they overall did not se alot of problems overall. The conditions to enter the test was that the people had used steroids at least 5 years. I was told by all the people who i know who attended that there results were verry good. The big test wich included many people. I dont know the excat number but lets say about 50 people at least. The results where never made a big publisety, I think their gold was to collect alot of information to understand and know much more about different issues like this for the future. All the people i knew attended was over their 30 and had used for at least 5 years. I think the results were to good to publish, because there were actully verry few problems. But let me tell you at the same time. The people enter the test was verry serious training guys wich lived and eate healthy. I belive today with the things i know and experienced that I was probberbly not at the danger level they told me. But at that moment they knew verry little. But i think for my self, that my heart went extrembly big because i was really big, and was using gear, also growth hormone. But of all sports I belive strongman is the sport that could make your heart bigger the powerlifting, bodybuilding, wheightlifting ect. because there are so much movment with big and heavy equipment. We actully run alot with huge wheights and involve or hole body more then any other sports. And offcourse; wheiing 145-155 kg is a big man, that needs offcourse a bigger heart to do that extremly heavy work in intervalls including maximum efforts of the hearts. Alot of big pro ifbb BB i know have many of them meassured their heart to 1,2-1,4 ish. And that is verry big heavy and tall bodybuilders. I think they dont require the same amont og work from the heart because of the kind of work/training they were doing..... I will also point out that i was walking and even small jogging trips many times at week at that point to work up my conditions and work capasity wich was even more work for the heart then most strongmen do..... But lets be real; a normal heart i belive would never be possible to have reaching that level of strength. And if the EKG would show no small small difference, they would never sent me to heart controll and i would have continued along. And i Belive i had the best lift still inside me. I am positive that i would be able to do between 420-430 kg at a peak in 2011. I alos improved my farmers and yoke alot. After doing boxing, my cardio and mobilety and recovery inreased by far the 2008 man i was. We will never know what i could to if this did not happend, or if i had took the test another place or contry even. But the health polecy made by WSM creatoris are smart and a safe thing to have. People ask me if i regret i retired.......Yes i do, but at that point i felt like no other options. wsm was not worth dieing for like the doc told me. I belive today i could go on compete in 2011, but did the right thing out of the information i had and was seriously told. But i will give a shout out to Mattis for making alot of good videos, and also the work he do for the sport in norway resent 10 years!!! I hope there will be a norwegian beating my and Svends records in WSM that would be awsome to have a true viking on the top again. At the moment there are 3 guys quite close at the same level and they are pushing each other hard and good! freindship in the sport i see still remain wich was one of the best memory for me. Thank you Mattis for sharing my story world wide and for hte kind words from you! Love you all guys!!!!

Interesting! Thank you so much for the clarifications, and all the kind words. I know there are several non-Norwegian speakers who have missed translation, including strongmen - such as Terry Hollands. Sad to reflect on that we probably missed even greater feats of strength by you, perhaps due to lack of knowledge. In that moment, you definitely made the right choice, all things considered. Better safe than sorry.

Honestly I think the doctors robbed us of peak Arild Haugen. The size of his heart doesn't sound that bad when taking into consideration the size of his body and muscle mass compared to other athletes and that no other marker pointed to a severe health issue. His time off between 09 and 11 I think would've helped him to become more athletic. Because he wasn't that strong in yoke and truck pull. Btw nobody ever beat Arild's 2008 stone run in my opinion. Distance between the stones were bigger than with the Giants Live set-up Tom and Kieliszkowski used
@bjorheim1993
@bjorheim1993 Ай бұрын
You may be right.. Arild's stones would probably still place him 1st at the biggest comps.

An enlarged heart can affect its pumping ability. Clearly the EKG showed abnormal heartbeat, which isn't good. He even says his pumping capacity went up after retiring

Most intense dude in a gym i ever seen! Guy had the eye of the tiger back then and i think he could have won it one day if he did not tear his body apart with pure volume given he did not get that hart issue.

Im glad he didnt die of a heart attack, lots of bodybuilders and strongmen have died from that kind of thing. I think we already saw his potential, he already proved himself in strongman.

The guys that are this good at 20-22 years old can fizzle out, but they can also grow to world class athletes. Look at Kiels, Thor, Novikov. They weren't winning comps at 20yo but their potential was obvious

It's crazy to not recognize the skill and potential of someone who comfortably beat Brian Shaw and Loz to get to the WSM final. And he was 3 years younger than both of them

@simenandersen3262 yes but them two were not even at their best at that time and were not full on pros yet and he had 2 years ahead start on those guys when they wasn't at their best yet

@@petershortland478 I guess that is the point tho, they were not at their best. Most likely neither was Arild, tho still ahead. He didn't have 2years ahead start on them.
