This is GORGEOUS. I’m so glad that you found this piece, because someone else might have painted and distressed it. Thank you for restoring it to its natural beauty.

BEAUTIFUL job! I don't understand people who like painted furniture. Let the beauty of the wood shine through! Great job!

Yeah, I just cannot fathom why anyone would want to paint over such beautiful wood. I guess some people have weird tastes ...........

I think it’s usually because the piece gets old and the old finish starts to look bad. Most people don’t know how to properly refinish it so they take the easy way out and paint it.
@lauris57087 ай бұрын
Wow, this is a gorgeous piece. I love the simple finish that lets the beauty of the wood shine through. It will look beautiful in your home.
@silverwolf57357 ай бұрын
That's stunning. I much prefer being able to see the different colours, textures and shades of the individual pieces of wood. So much better than an over powering stain or dye that makes every piece of wood the same colour.
@margeryk0007 ай бұрын
The painted version looked like it belonged in the hall outside the principal's office, and the refinished version looks like it belongs in the hall of a stately home. Job well done!

Beautiful work…just in case you are interested, in my youth (about 40-50 years ago 😨) in the North of England a settee was what we now would call a sofa or couch. Everyone had a settee in their living room (lounge) or Front room/Dining room (AKA posh room that only gets used when posh visitors come). Ahhh, those were the days when all you could hear on a Sunday was the church bells outside and the ticking clock on the mantle inside. No daytime TV (other than the test card) until after tea. 😊 That’s why I love your videos, they remind me of when life was a bit quieter….well that and the lovely work you do.

Dasher, please take this as a compliment, but your videos are simultaneously interesting, wonderful, and boring as heck. Your lulling baritone voice puts me to sleep. As such I watch them every night as I wind down my brain for bed. NEVER CHANGE!

That's just beautiful, what a great piece! How somebody would paint over walnut is beyond me. Glad you brought it back to life! The clear Danish oil was the way to go, and the hide glue repair was also a good choice, hide glue doesn't show on oil or shellac finishes which is a bonus of using it. Great job and video 👏

I'm so glad your channel is growing. Your simplicity and calm explanations have earned you the "Bob Ross of Refinishing ". Plus I have noticed you have moved from chemical removal to scraping, ( I understand that it is environmentally friendly and probably better for your respiratory system and kidneys,) but watching bubbled paint being swooped off in one fell swoop is kind of satisfying. 😅

What a beautiful piece! Drexel makes some really fine furniture. My mother had a Derxel dining room set and some chairs that were awesome. Great job bringing it back. It's also interesting that the back rails appear to have different color tones. I wonder if it's because they were covered in paint for so long. Well done.

I run into cracks that are hard to glue often. I use a shop vac with a rag held over the end of the hose to pull glue into tighter joints. You can glue them without prying or opening joints and cracks that can cause more problems. Good job on the restoration!
