Hey guys! It’s been a couple of months since I started to share my full stock market portfolio together with write-ups on all the companies I own. It’s a community meant for those of you who are into stock-picking and appreciate a hands-on and practical approach to learning and growing. We’re off to a good start, but I can’t help but feel too many were left out. The biggest reason - judging by your comments in this video - seems to be the pricing - and that’s my fault. Many of you have expressed a wish to join, but that $45 is too much. Well, I appreciate your opinion, and now we’re making some changes. I have lowered the price of the tier called “Complete Portfolio Insight” by almost 30%. In addition, and this part is really exciting, we’re introducing a new tier - “Sneak-Peek”. The new tier is $11 and includes all our Deep Dives - thoroughly written reports of every stock in my portfolio. This tier lets you understand my process and reasoning in great detail so you may take inspiration for your own process and portfolio. So, a great deal of value, but for a much lower price. Check out the new and updated tiers at Patreon! www.patreon.com/TheSwedishInvestor Cheers!

I’ve never been a Patron, but this was going to be my first. 45 euros a month? This pricing is institutional investor level. I’m guessing most of the viewers here are 18-25 and can’t drop 50 dollars on a subscription that provides the content of a portfolio. Now, the 90% of people who would’ve become patrons at a 10$ pricepoint will find out the companies in your portfolio for free using when someone shares it. Patreon is meant to support your favorite creator. This just feels like a way to extract money out of your audience. I would really like to see what is your take-home compared to a 10$ pricing.

It sounds very promising and valuable, but given that this is supposed to help out new investors, it is a hefty price. If you have 5k to invest, $500 a year is like a 10% fee, diminishing practically all the upside, even if 19,5% are still being achieved. Are the deep dive analyses available immediately, or do they come bit by bit? As a one-time buy, it could be a great thing to see the practical application of all that theoretical knowledge. But for the monthly payment, it's steep if one has less than a good 5 figures to work with.

Dandylion98 cheers for your comment. Regarding the price, a lot of effort is involved in picking stocks the way we do and presenting the material well. Also, the opportunity costs for us are high as well. We know that $45 is not ideal for everyone, but for some people, this should be a bargain price, depending on how much money you have now and your investment ambitions. You can't think of this as a management fee, as we are revealing our portfolio and our investment strategy. The deep dives will be published continuously. The first one is very nearly done. I'm not a financial/marketing expert but perhaps it would be a good idea to make the price cheaper early on and increase it as the strategy is proven? Right now if we assume that around 80% of your viewers (assumption made based on "Why Some Stocks are Cheap" video) have something like $500 to invest per month, they're much better off just going with S&P500, which doesn't seem to be doing much worse than your portfolio in the 10 year time frame. By reducing the price to something like $10, a far greater portion of your audience could get into the patreon without it being a straight up bad financial decision.

The only fair criticism is whilst they outperform the market there’s a time cost to having to manage your portfolio yourself when you could just pay a far smaller fee to an ETF that’ll manage itself…. People want to beat the market with no extra work, that’s the real issue here. You can beat the market but how much time and energy are you going to have to put into researching companies and making assessments of a good buy price?

I agree this guy charging $540 a year to see his investing tips or whatever is ridiculous IMO, 'I've made 20% a year for 10 years blah blah blah' great he made some money in one of the best ever times to invest in the history of the stock market for a retail investor. I will not be handing over my money to some random just because they have picked some stocks over the years that have done well, if I wanted that I would go over to WSBs and jump on the hype train to the moon until it all comes crashing down. I own individual stocks, ETFs, closed ended funds, a single mutual fund etc., I am very happy to invest in different investment approaches but at the current time this is not one that I will use and I would suggest other people avoid aswell, too many issues with something like this for a regular investor to even touch with a barge pole so to speak. This guy maybe very good at investing but how can you trust this guy without his portfolio being public, open history of investments, risk management approaches in place that actual fund managers have etc,. The only fund managers I trust with my money are Berkshire, Fundsmith and Pershing Square as of now, at some point in the future I may change my mind or add to that list but they are 3 solid investment companies/ funds that have the investors money in safe hands and I can sleep at night with the money i invest into their investment approaches. As an aside I also found it quite funny when he said if we don't beat the Dow Jones World Index (that no one uses to compare performance against) we will change our name, instead of saying we will refund your patreon money XD.

@wehoongry I don't think the Swedish Investor generally recommends index funds for building wealth. His videos usually say that investing in a small number of stocks that you researched well is best, without much diversification. Unless you want a completely hands-off approach, in which case the index fund is better than a managed fund. But I don't think that's really relevant here, this Patreon (and arguably the entire channel) is for folks who want to do active investing.
@wehongryy Жыл бұрын
@@NobodyInTraining That's a fair point. I'm conflating the purpose of the channel and the Patreon with the advice of some of the books he has reviewed. That being said, I would argue that the majority of his audience is likely still people who SHOULD be investing in index funds, and paying for his patreon would put them in a position he has posed in some of his videos where you blindly follow someone else's portfolio and choices because they tell you they are "beating the market" and you can too. Personally I view selling your market beating portfolio in the current era of finfluencers and the WSB crowd as irresponsible, but of course knowing the free content TSI puts out I'm sure it will be presented as responsibly as possible. Considering all the articles coming out about regulators cracking down on finfluencers, I wish him the best of luck.

@Polotoed Жыл бұрын

@TheSwedishInvestor Жыл бұрын
You are correct about this alemadd. We excluded outliers for both of the groups. Much like we excluded P/E 32,000 & 8,000 companies from NYSE + Nasdaq, which otherwise would have resulted in an average P/E for that group of 66, we excluded this company from our own portfolio. We think that by doing that, we were giving a more fair representation of reality - the company you mention trades at a 10y P/E of 7, so I hope you agree with our reasoning here. For total transparency - we also excluded two negative earners from the portfolio, just like we excluded all negative earners from the peer group. Then, finally, for one of our companies, we reduced its historical 10y growth rate down from 27% to 3% because it would affect the average in a way that we didn't feel was representative of reality (but it would have been to our advantage to not adjust that). We didn't include these adjustments in the video because we thought it would confuse people, but, as I hope you agree, we have tried giving as fair of a picture as possible.

Best of luck to you. I think the slightly negative reaction is because you're trying to sell it too hard, and to everyone. We did a similar mistake with an influencer recently at my company, so I gave this some thought. I think you should frame it more like "This is not for everyone. For many of you, if you have just little money to invest, the fees would not be worth it. But it's the number one question i get asked, and it's there for those who want it. I wanted to write a proper analysis for everything, and the time investment only makes sense if we charge a high fee for it. PS. the 19.5% is historically correct, but it's by no means a guarantee for the future." Also.. I get that the woman in the beginning was a joke, but it still makes you seem full of yourself. "My portfolio has arrived, everyone should rejoice!" It's not the price that people have a problem with. @TheSwedishInvestor really sorry about more unsolicited advice, I'm just writing it on the off chance you find it interesting. I wanted to recommend a book called The Curve by Nicholas Lowell. Based on the book, maybe offering a lower priced tier (eg. without the analysis or no stock info at all) could be an option for people who just want to support you. It would make it seem more reasonably priced for the average viewer, and the high paying option would still be there for your superfans.

For every individual stock you tell me that goes ip over time I could tell you one that also went down and never recovered. Also, let's say the guy bought meta in his portfolio or netflix and it recovered in the last few months thus greatly contributing to his overall returns. Can he have the same confidence and say that those two holdings will go on to perform just as well and deliver 19% y/y results in the future ? @@zanexie981 while I agree with you that buying in at certain points means you will be buying in at bad prices for certain stocks you will also be buying in at good points for other ones. Literally any fund works in the same way, the S&P500 if you buy in you are buying in at all time highs on some stocks (Apple, MSFT, , NVDIA etc.,). If a fund performs well on average every year it really makes no difference at what point you buy in. Just as an example lets say a stock just hit ATH but you are scared to invest, let's say 2 years ago the stock was higher are you now more likely to invest just because its not at ATH? That is human emotion leading your investing and while I do relate to that, it is a fundamental mistake in investing which many people make, even Warren Buffet admits he made a mistake with Walmart once it started going up he didn't want to buy more and then it just kept going and he never invested more into it.

Why all that effort and bad blood reading and answering unpolite comments?

Hey cesarvera3341 cheers for your comment and support, it's a good question. First of all, I think investing is a lot of fun and this is a way of doing it together with other people. We seriously thought about starting a fund as an alternative, but you can't imagine all the hassle that comes with that. This just seemed easier and sort of a nice compromise, and a good step in that direction.

It would also be good to take note on lowering your prices on patreon and slowly raise the prices over time as your provide more content and resources as you don’t have much resources as of now. I’ve watched every single one of your videos from the oldest all the way up. Really good content that your providing, keep up the good work man.

Hey hossamelhadi2225! Good question. The Patreon offers insight into my current portfolio. Pretty much none of the stocks are the same right now as the ones I invested in during the last 10 years. I like to switch in and out of stocks so that the holding period is usually somewhere between 3 months - 2 years. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Hey PurpleHaze1824, good and relevant question. The SPY (S&P 500 tracking ETF) is up 170% during the same period, but it would be illogical to compare ourselves to it. Guess what Kongsberg stock has done (interestingly it started moving 2 years BEFORE the war). During COVID I bought a small medical lab company that had solid fundamentals and I knew had to be involved in Covid testing. It took a whole year to explode but it did. Also during COVID hearing the news about overworked UPS drivers I looked into UPS stock and bought it. It was obvious that capital employed was the same but the actual delivered work had increased A LOT. At the time I bought it the stock had done nothing despite the obvious change!

At the moment I'm in the process of narrowing down potentially good stocks - but in order to validate the past results, I require access to historical Earning/ Revenue information. By any chance, do you know how to access Historical Earnings/ Revenue information for the past 10-20 years for a group of stocks? I m developing a tool based on python. Would you like to collaborate? I love this channel but 500 sek per month is crazy! That’s 600$ a year. I assume most of your audience are retail investors with small accounts between 5 to 20k so they are paying 3 to 12 % of their money to see your portfolio so if they make the same 19,5% they actually end up with 16,5% at best. Those that actually watch your videos know the impact of compounding, so your patreon is just a way for your fans to shoot themselves in the foot.

I would gladly pay $45 a month to beat the index (i.e. DJIA). But there is no guarantee here. As B.G said; to achieve satisfactory investment results is easier than most people realize; to achieve superior results is harder than it looks. Also, the best record is one which beats the market, and rarely looses money. (I.e when the market goes down 25%, the protected portfolio only stays still - close to 0% return)
@TheSwedishInvestor Жыл бұрын
Hey athias3026, thanks for the comment. Absolutely, there are no guarantees what the stock market will do. I can guarantee that we'll do our absolute best to perform though. Both my reputation and pretty much 99% of my savings are on the line. P.S. what you are describing actually happened in 2022. I was up 5% while the DJ World was down about 20%. Not saying that this is guaranteed to happen again either, but I just thought it was funny when you mentioned almost exactly such numbers in your comment. Cheers.

@TheSwedishInvestor Жыл бұрын
Cheers methos-ey9nf, and thank you for the comment. I know some charge $10 a month, but I don't think they have the same track record, or provide nearly the same value as we do. A lot of effort is involved in picking stocks the way we do and presenting the material well. Also, the opportunity costs for us are high as well. We know that $45 is not ideal for everyone, but for some people, this should be a bargain price, depending on how much money you have now and your ambitions for investing. So, it's like stocks, if the value is higher, the price can be higher and you can still have a margin of safety ;)

I dont really get why people are so upset about the pricing. If this portfolio keeps making 19% returns for the next 10 years this would be a bargain for me at least, i save about $800 a month, and typically return about 8% per year. If i started saving $750 (and payed $50) and my portfolio started averaging 19% in yearly returns i would have $400 000 in 2033, instead of only $200 000 if i keep going like this.

Hi Swedish Investor. Congrats on the great performance! Just out of curiosity, why do you not just manage capital as a profession? I don't think that you would find it difficult to raise capital since you have had great performance. It would be way less work than doing deep-dives and having to deal with an entire community. The reward would also probably be much higher. Regards.

We actually looked into that as an alternative as well, but the hassle is insane if I'd like to raise money from retail, for example, from people in this KZbin community. Thanks Swedish investor for the video and congratulations on your performance! I have a question regarding FCFE and Owner Earnings, which I was hoping you could help me out with. Why specifically does Warren Buffett use Owner Earnings and not FCFE? I was thinking about the definition of FCFE, which raised a concern. Let's say that a business produced $100m in FCFE. Of the $100m, they paid $20m in dividends, and retained the remaining $80m. This $80m goes straight to the cash pile... Now let's assume that the management spends this $80m recklessly in projects that produce nothing. You could view this $80m as being wasted essentially. Therefore, you couldn't conclude that intrinsic value is just the PV of future cash flows because a large portion of those cash flows were not distributed to you the owner, but rather, they were wasted. I'd greatly appreciate any assistance with this. I think Warren's Buffett's use of Owner Earnings may address this issue. Thanks a lot.

Hey, amazing video as usual. So two questions. 1) According to this, if I invest 10,000 and then add 10k more at the end of each year for 5 years, I should have around 100k +- 10k (rough value) right? 2) Does your portfolio involve any dividend stocks or is the whole return just part of the growth?
