Dude black lake is such a beautiful spot! My grandparents had a camp up there and now fish the oswegatchi river just north of there a few times a year. So rad to see you guys living some of the same memories I have from growing up I that area. Watching from south Alabama now!

Watched all three of the videos of Black Lake. Well done guys! Can tell you are experienced fisherman and have a great time. I’ve been going up there for 25yrs and can tell you it’s not easy to figure out. It took me a few years before I could consistently catch fish there. Thanks for your military service my friend!

Probably the most memorable is the bowfin my son caught when he was 7yrs old. Have only fished there middle of August so the water is the warmest of the year and the fish have been worked over pretty well by then. Thanks for the reply!

@salmonslayer1076 Awesome! It has to be tough in August. Can't imagine how much grass growth there is at that time. I caught a 12.5 pound catfish out of there on a 2 inch gulp minnow on 6lb test once. That was a crazy battle!

@@TroneZoneFishing Nice cat and a great fight on 6lb line. We fish the hard weed edges during mid August because the grass is emergent for the most part. Like you and your dad, I like the pike fishing. Little harder to find/catch at that time but like you said, very good eating.

Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching. My confidence lure on that lake is a number 4 bluefox in either orange or red. Any inline spinner with orange or red works great. Just make sure you retrieve it just above the grass. Vary your retrieval speed based on the depth of the grass.

Thanks for the comment, @bigjnh1979. The water temperature is going to be really high during that time, so the bigger pike will be in deeper cooler water most of the day. I would try trolling super shad raps or deep diving crankbaits in deep water that is close to a shallow grass flat. However, during the early morning and late evening hours, those bigger pike should come in shallow to feed. When fishing more shallow grass, my go-to is the orange Inline spinner I used in the video. It works all year round. A lot of people use live suckers and shiners to catch them on Black Lake. I personally have never tried it.
