You weren't the only one having trouble with this aircraft! Many years ago I was chatting to one of the engineers who worked on it. He said that initially its design didn't facilitate maintenance, and that there was kerfuffle and pushback from the 'hands-on' types until it got sorted. Think yourself lucky! Nice recovery! Cheers!

Fantastic job as always and excellent resilience and patience with recovering the kit. I tried using the Neo masking fluid once as I couldn't get Maskol at the time. Absolute disaster, ended up binning the kit as the mask either lifted the paint or wouldn't come off the kit at all. Have gone back to Maskel and as I've never had issue with that.

After the heartache (ball ache!!) of seeing that first paint disaster, you recovered, and made an aircraft that is far more attractive in that light blue/grey finish - much less 'busy' and lets you see the actual lines and shape of the aircraft !! 😊 Brilliant work... 🙂

For a minute there I thought, ‘’e’s gone mad!’ Looks great. For anyone, like me, who actually flew in one of these while it duty as an airliner, they were lovely. The trailing link undercarriage made for very smooth landings. Perhaps its only flaw was that it really should have been a twin, rather than having four engines.

Great little aircraft in many ways but there were some challenging maintenance tasks. I didn't realise Revell had released a 1/144 model made of the 146, hopefully they will re-release it as I'd be up for 2. Great build as always! Paint peeling... It just happens. Few years ago, I started to work on a model I waited for quite some time. I decided not to take any risks and didn't experiment with chemicals or tools, just wanted to make the best display piece I can. When I started to polish first coat of paint (2000 grit under water) paint peeled off. And super smelly Alclad primer I used with it as well. And it happened in the area with busy details and complicated curvature. I still don't know how I was able to overcome that and get through the finish line.

A nice build in the end, but I have been there with paint compatibility issues. I now stick to Tamiya acrylics; I like the fact that they are water soluble, so brush and airbrush cleaning is easy. For camo on smaller models, I use blu tac. To get really sharp lines I cut the edges of the blu tac with a modelling knife being careful not to cut into the model. If you are still worried about bleed through make the first couple of coats a clear varnish to seal the masking.
@sergiovasconcellosocriativo2 жыл бұрын
I admire your work and techniques and even more for using techniques that I find difficult, for example...as a fluid mask. The only way to wear the fluid mask was in watercolors on very thick paper. Another mess I already did with her was masking Canopys after applying the "Future", it was very ugly. I know it is not required to use a primer, but it avoids exactly this kind of problem, because the plastic is very slick and depending on the type of paint or mask, can remove the paint from the kit. Hugs

Always need a Tamiya tape around; center could be fill with Maskol, because it is faster than cutting tape for that purpose. ;) But there is still danger that masking fluid can damage a paint.
