I've learned some really useful techniques from your videos. A home made decals vid would be excellent. Help people avoid a few of the pitfalls. I always hated the, "right of passage", mentality that some people hold. What's so wrong about helping people up front? Thanks for sharing your efforts with us!

You weren't the only one having trouble with this aircraft! Many years ago I was chatting to one of the engineers who worked on it. He said that initially its design didn't facilitate maintenance, and that there was kerfuffle and pushback from the 'hands-on' types until it got sorted. Think yourself lucky! Nice recovery! Cheers!

Great recovery Greg, turned out a little gem in the end.I wish I had the skills (and the finance) to return to the hobby.I still remember the days of balsa wood plugs and dope/talcum filler for any major conversion work.As a kid I remember a conversion article in airfix magazine of a Sunderland to a Sandringham flying boat it was all magic to me.Your skills are to be applauded as always thanks for another entertaining video.

For a minute there I thought, ‘’e’s gone mad!’ Looks great. For anyone, like me, who actually flew in one of these while it duty as an airliner, they were lovely. The trailing link undercarriage made for very smooth landings. Perhaps its only flaw was that it really should have been a twin, rather than having four engines.

After the heartache (ball ache!!) of seeing that first paint disaster, you recovered, and made an aircraft that is far more attractive in that light blue/grey finish - much less 'busy' and lets you see the actual lines and shape of the aircraft !! 😊 Brilliant work... 🙂

I don’t know what’s in the stuff, but it will take the fur off a bunny at 40 paces! 3) Fond memories working on the Bae-146 for Air California - American Airlines & then USAir mid/late 1980s. I was just using masking fluid today and thinking how much I hate working with the stuff. After watching your experience I’m definitely staying away from it from here on. Had it lift a 4 colour paint scheme (Vallejo acrylic so no chemical bond to the plastic and I should have known) on a WWI armoured car kit. And yes, a decal video would be great!

Great build as always! Paint peeling... It just happens. Few years ago, I started to work on a model I waited for quite some time. I decided not to take any risks and didn't experiment with chemicals or tools, just wanted to make the best display piece I can. When I started to polish first coat of paint (2000 grit under water) paint peeled off. And super smelly Alclad primer I used with it as well. And it happened in the area with busy details and complicated curvature. I still don't know how I was able to overcome that and get through the finish line.

A nice build in the end, but I have been there with paint compatibility issues. I now stick to Tamiya acrylics; I like the fact that they are water soluble, so brush and airbrush cleaning is easy. For camo on smaller models, I use blu tac. To get really sharp lines I cut the edges of the blu tac with a modelling knife being careful not to cut into the model. If you are still worried about bleed through make the first couple of coats a clear varnish to seal the masking.

I didn't realise Revell had released a 1/144 model made of the 146, hopefully they will re-release it as I'd be up for 2. I admire your work and techniques and even more for using techniques that I find difficult, for example...as a fluid mask. The only way to wear the fluid mask was in watercolors on very thick paper. Another mess I already did with her was masking Canopys after applying the "Future", it was very ugly. I know it is not required to use a primer, but it avoids exactly this kind of problem, because the plastic is very slick and depending on the type of paint or mask, can remove the paint from the kit. Hugs

Awesome build with awesome results. I think personally that all kinds of masking fluids are to thick to proper work as as masking solutions by itself. Always need a Tamiya tape around; center could be fill with Maskol, because it is faster than cutting tape for that purpose. ;) But there is still danger that masking fluid can damage a paint. Nevertheles, finally you great resolve the problem. All the best for You! ;)

I have P3 Orion in 1/144 this kit also is unglazed, do you know of any glazing kits? Might look into the possibility of making a RJX from this kit . Worked on all these variants in UK and abroad over the years . You got me thinking Greg . Great recovery . Decals video please. Software and Decal paper you use or recommend. Looking into making glazing from resins, making male and female moulds from Miliput and composite release tape . Plug lengths no details on how you came to these dimensions, however I will add that working on these aircraft the frames are around 32 to 35 inches from frame centres, then you can scale down to 1/144 this is true for most commercial civil aircraft in the cabin area , this changes in the cockpit plug and rear empennage where frame spacing starts to reduce.

I remember RJX being given the thumbs up at Woodford. But I ended up at Warton in or around 1999. In answer to your first question, sorry no. As far as the extensions, these were created from plan drawings showing the 100, 200 and 300. At 1/144 scale it's never going to be inch perfect 😎👍
