just a note, The rules say if a creature with a finality counter on them would die exile it instead, so you can blink them and they'll come back without a finality counter, you can bounce them, they just can't die. also this means that they won't cause death triggers cuz they won't go to the graveyard

Just adding that even if it was "leaves the battlefield" blinking would be fine anyways, as exiling is a part of the effect resolution which satisfies the condition.

I love many of the reprints in this deck, especially the reanimation spells. Tempted to grab it, playnit for awhile, and eventually turn it into a Sidisi or Muldrotha deck.

I am so excited to attempt brewing Mirko for CEDH. Right now clones are so good in Commander (CEDH or otherwise) and Mirko being able to passively reamimate them for free is sweet

It's close to CEDH. I'm working on it too. You get an additional Thoracle line because the clones are basically free; Mirror-Mad Phantasm. Body Double let's you clone out of your graveyard and add in Maximize Altitude so that you can boost Mirko's power to be able to reanimate Thoracle. I'd be interested to see a list when you get one together, or to hear any tech you might have planned already.

Does the Ozolith actually work with Finality counters? My thought was that Finality counters are a replacement effect and the Ozolith does not actually remove counters from the creature leaving the battlefield, just adds those counters to it. I get how it could use those counters to hinder your opponent's creatures but it wouldn't actually prevent your creatures from being exiled?

when I first saw that this precon was going to focus on surveil, I was really excited. I love that mechanic and think it never got the support to make it really worth investing into. sadly that seems to still be the case..? I don't feel like the new cards are all that exciting tbh. I was hoping for some better surveil pay-offs, but it seems Mirko is really the only card that makes it worth. maybe I just expected too much. the reprints are crazy though.

I have a surveil deck and I'm feeling the same, though Case of the Shifting Visage also feels solid. Sort of a buffed Search for Azcanta.

I agree, the surveil mechanic doesn't have enough good support to make running all the subpar surveil cards worthwhile. Luckily, I still think Mirko is worth building around, just drop the surveil stuff and pretend Mirko reads "on end step reanimate a creature with zero power" instead.

Animate dead, necromancy, phyrexian metamorph, toxic deluge, sphinx of the second sun, phyrexian arena, final word phantom (its columbo), foreboding steamboat (flickers=removal) and Case of the shifting visage all seem decent

The eye of dusk mantle doesn’t say the cards you cast are removed from play or anything so can you just permanently recur spells with it if you have the mana?

I was so excited for this deck. I've been waiting for a good/playable Dimir selfmill commander for years. Both commanders don't even surveil and their payoffs are kinda meh because there's not enough playable surveil to make them viable. Mirko is bassicly a very bad Meren. Marvo is very gimmicky and outside of Clash tribal, it's a horrible Yuriko. Dimir Strandcatcher would've been a perfect Surveil Commander, but it's not Legendary SMH.

You don‘t have to wait, Araumi is pretty good and it came out a couple of years ago. I have built one myself and it runs pretty well, but I can‘t speak for higher power levels.

Mirko is NOT bad bro tf? lol and he’s better then meren. He’s a 3cmc cost flyer with vigilance that gets buffed everytime you surveil, and it’s not limited to once per turn either. You can easily make him a 6/6 in a few turns and start reanimating huge creatures with no spells or mana required. Upgrade this deck with some better surveil shit, some more ramp and better counters/mana base and it is strong asf

The Eye is nuts. It does not say to exile the spell on resolution, and it does not say you can only cast permanent spells or anything like that. So if you have something like Doomblade, you can just cast it repeatedly for two life each time.

The sphynx of the second sun is there because it gives: An additional untap, (upkeep) an additional draw. Which allows you to play your turn and still have mana up for shenanigans on opp turns.

Mirko is just a terrible colour shifted version of Carmen. Vigilance is a plus and is cheaper which is always good and triggers on end step which is always good but every other way, hes just a terrible colour changed version of carmen - Carmen does only trigger on attack BUT brings back ANY permanent with CMC less or equal to her power and doesnt use the imo terrible Finality counters, which you can get around with blink effects and such but thats just needing more and more to make an already "eh" commander ever so slightly better just doesnt feel that good imo. Carmen Triggers on EVERYONE sacrificing AND gains health as well. Feel like they really didnt need to have the finality counter - the fact its ONLY creatures is already imo a big enough restriction that adding the finality counter wasnt really needed. Means having to add enough ways to get that counter removed that you end up with imo a weaker deck. Was really hyped for the deck and was hoping that it as going to be fantastic, but outside the REALLY good reprints its kinda "eh" and very slow out of the box which is a real shame. Most of the new cards are kinda "eh" for the most part. Focusing on a kinda terrible mechanic surveil.

I just want to remind people that many cards that did Surveil before (and after) the mechanic had a name has been errata to actually say Surveil instead, a quick Skryfall search should help you out on getting more options.
