when my older brother played this game he made a list of all the people "killed" by the flying dutchman so when I got around to playing it, I opened the case and found a paper list saying "SANDY: DEAD, MR KRABS: DEAD, SQUIDWARD: DEAD" then when I played it, and watched them all get "killed" one by one, it felt like a creepypasta this games fucking horrifying, its so scary, it has such an elegiac aura

i think a large part of why the game's got such cursed vibes is the whole experience that happens when you collect all the letters. It's very sudden and startling, and you're thrown into multiple minigames without any explanation for why until after, and the sliding puzzle especially was surreal af. Also, idk about other kids but I had no clue what a divining rod was so that was an additional layer of confusion. The whole thing ending with a high-detail gross image was really icing on the cake. I had this game as a kid and I think I liked it? but the music gets grating Fast and it was unsettling in a way that I wasn't fully cognizant of as a kid but very much felt.

Usually when you go to the beach and pick them up you pick up the discarded shell that the living creature grew out of, not the shell with the creature inside, but I like your thought better. The idea of bikini bottom using living animals as currency fits waaaay more with the vibe of the show.

Oh, man...I love people describing and sharing their uncanny creep out feelings about this game. I know for sure it was surreal but interesting enough for my far younger self, despite temper tantrums at difficulty, and is now a weird mixed nostalgia. Here's another "horror example." Hopefully this is unique from what others pointed out. There's an Extras locker in the main menu, with a slightly unsettling slide show of very early concept art of the show. Knowing it's real and official, so the familiarity is further justified and validated, yet seeing how...off and "incorrect" it looks compared to what we're used to can be quite off-putting. Combined with the neat but horrifically overused main roaming music is just...strange in a fascinating way.

I actually only it because the cashier at gamestop gave me and my mom the wrong game, I had picked out battle for bikini bottom. In all fairness though I did eventually get battle for bikini bottom but I still prefer this one

I don't think I've ever sold any of my consoles. The ones that did leave my house, were either sold by my dad, or taken by a member of the family. Had a nes that got sold, and when my dirt bag sister got kicked out of the house, she took the GBA we had with her. Other then those two, nothing I can think of, except maybe the original Nintendo Gameboy I chucked in the trash cause it stopped working completely one day. For some reason we had snes games, but no snes to play them on. and I've never gotten an answer to that, despite the fact my parents say we never had snes games at ALL, I remember something else.
