Reverse Parachute Dry Fly

Who doesn't love a bit of dry fly fishing? I have several dry flies that I have enormous faith in such as the Parachute Adams, the Retirer and the unsinkable sedge to name but a few. I am always on the lookout to add something a bit different to my fly box. After watching a video recently I thought I would give this a go. What do you think, let me know in the comments section.

About 25 years ago Orvis used to sell the reverse tied fly and I've learned how to tie them it's one of my favorite patterns a reverse tied paranymph pheasant tail

A fiddle and faff about with this style, reverse klinkhammer, and upside down parachute post under the head so the bend and point are above the water surface. Have used them for difficult dog days on some hard fished waters. With some success. As with most things confidence plays its part. Both browns and Grayling have taken them. All versions have a high percentage of lip hooked fish on the take. Yes use as a single fly. Had some limited luck with them on a Stillwater type top dropper with a spider ie snipe n purple or Greenwells spider on the point

Hi Lindsay. It's John Lindsay in the USA. I'm just starting tying and only don't a couple parachutes. Whats the logic behind the Parachute in the reverse?

I believe it is most effective for fishing downstream for spooky fish. The idea being the fish see the head of the fly and not the tippet.

Very interesting! Firstly thank you for responding. I know you must have many viewers demands on your time. You might find it interesting to know that I'm in a wheelchair due to spina bifida. Due to this and my having bilateral rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders, I can't get into the water or whip a rod back and forth overhead like I've seen most traditional fly fisherman do. Consequently I use light spinning gear combo to fly fish. I'm still working out the details but I figure if I put my weight at the end of my line and put on a slider rig with a say four foot leader I should be successful. Also the bulk of my experience is in fishing salt water using live or dead baits. Please sir, if you can think of any ideas, anything at all that might help me be successful making good flys and catching fish on my fly fishing/spinning gear set up PLEASE get in touch. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge, experience and passion with you you tube watchers. Tight lines and bent rods!

clever man,what patience to tie this fly.Where do you get your moose mane? would you use it on still waters and lochs.

I got the Moose Mane from Troutline. I will give this a go on the rivers Denis the hooks I used are a bit light for Stillwater fishing.
