You could have a 20 hour video of the most boring task like watching paint dry. I'd still sit and watch the whole thing. Appreciate your time with these videos. Always enjoy each one no matter the length as I'm always learning something new.

I’d be lying if I said the paintbrush didn’t throw me off. With that being said it’s really a genius way to get tails instead of using microfibbets

So much easier to tie with that yarn than using moose hair for the spent wings. Thanks !!

I have been wrong before, and fish just northern Cal , Oregon ,And a few spots on the snake ,Madison, and in south central Colorado. The local fly shops usually steer me clear of the larger trico and Dunn patterns . You’re right in the only ones I see are small itsy bitsy. Dry flys I have had success with are 14 or small. The exceptions: hopper, chubby churn and the like. Are you east coast? Love your tying style! Tight lines!

Very nice and simplistic approach to tying an effective fly. Thank You for the tips too. Question: Do you thin the "Hard as Nails" or use it full strengh from the bottle? What you are using seems to absorb into the fibers better than the bottle I'm using..... maybe I just need a new bottle

The Hard as Nails has been slightly thinned with just a few drops of isopropyl alcohol.

Hi Tim with regards to uncording the thread anti clockwise to get a flat thread I do this but the flat thread doesn't last very long.Surely if you keep spinning anti clockwise it's going to cord up?

Every time you take a thread wrap your tying thread cords up (twists clockwise one time). In order to keep the thread flat, you need to give the bobbin a gentle counter clockwise spin (as if you're looking down on it) every half dozen or so thread wraps. Now, if you spin the bobbin hard counter clockwise your thread will cord up counter clockwise. It's really worth messing around with it a good bit to figure out what is going on.

Size 10 ,,, really? Look at the actual bugs in the water. This pattern is only fit for 18-22 hook size. Cant imagin slopping a lunker like this into the mix of 1/4 -3/8 inch REAL flys and expecting to fool a trout in to biting , unless its a recently released planter. The only reason i see this size 10 is used is to make it easy to tie the pattern for video. Good for show. but wont produce the dough..... i give it al like for technique...

Aaaah Danny... I'm guessing you have never seen a natural Isonychia spinner before. They are large, like every bit of size 10 large. Also, there are many mayfly species where the spinner is fairly large, say size 14. It's why a size 14 Rusty Spinner is such a popular pattern. Hope this clears things up for you. Oh, and by the way, although this pattern didn't produce any dough, three days ago it did produce a very nice 16" wild brown just before dark.

Yes sz 10. I take it you fish to those finicky Colorado trout who only want midge size dries. Come to northern Michigan. Sz 10 is standard for Iso spinners here. I don’t even want to mention the Hex hatch as you’ll probably fall out of your chair as to those hook sizes.

Every streams complexion and ecosystem is different, if you're fishing the colorado plains then yeah, small midges and grasshoppers are two easily found bugs. if you go to the catskills or adirondacks its not hard to find big isonychia nymphs, sizeable wets and dries that range from 10-16. geography and stream ecosystems are different everywhere.
