what is the purpose of the first reference point? are you not able to just start from reference point 2?
@AmmarBhaiyat-h9v Жыл бұрын
I think it’s because so you’re not dry steering
@AmmarBhaiyat-h9v Жыл бұрын
If you started from point 2 your car would be stoped while you’re turning the wheels and turning the wheels while the car isn’t moving is called dry steering (since the car isn’t in motion turning creates pressure between the two front tires and the pavement that’s why you start from point one so your car is moving and you’re not dry steering

Adding to what the others have said, dry-steering isn't allowed during the licence testing in some jurisdictions and you will get points deducted. In my jurisdiction, I get a point deducted if I dry-steer for more than half a turn of the steering wheel. It comes under car management. So that's why many of these instruction videos advice learners to start the reversing process from the first reference point so that you can keep the car in motion and avoid dry-steering when you start full-lock swinging at the second reference point.

I don't get the second reference point. Like what do I line my car up with with the parked car
@jamesnamo20775 ай бұрын
Same… I thought it was just me. What does one use to align with the centre of the back passenger window of the other car?
@opheliamaples2 ай бұрын
You move alongside the parked car until it's back tail light is aligned with the mid-point of your left rear passenger window. In other words, look back over your left shoulder and look out of your left rear passenger window. The sweet spot is when the back tail light of the other car is at the halfway point of that window frame. This places the back of your car a small length behind the parked car's back, giving you a clearance space to start swinging your car to a 45° angle.

Hello, Thank you for this helpful video. When you were parked at the end next to the kerb, you had finished the manoeuvre. My question is it unnecessary to then if you were in an automatic to put the car in drive and move closer to the car we have parked behind before putting our car in park and handbrake on?
@SignalDrivingSchool11 ай бұрын
If you are far from the front car, you can move forward
@carlsfishroom63211 ай бұрын
@@SignalDrivingSchool Ok thank you! I tried your reference point using the centre of the car in front aligned with our cars passenger mirror. It worked quite well. However, I noticed we needed to make an observation and adjustment to the right of the cars centre. When the car parked in front was parked too close to the gutter of the kerb. Otherwise, we too would end up being too close in the gutter also. 😀

The simple way to park is miror to miror turn the steering wheel full from the right then if you see the mirror to handle of the passenger turn halfway then if you see the mirror to the end of the light at the back turn it full you got your way😂😂😂
