11:14 Learn more about hair loss!
Today I’m going to share the three best trace minerals for alopecia.
Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes patches of hair loss on the scalp. This is also sometimes a side effect of other autoimmune diseases, like Hashimoto’s or lupus.
Trace minerals are minerals needed in tiny amounts and have profound effects on the body. Related to hair loss, trace minerals can potentially help prevent and treat autoimmune diseases and help build up hair protein.
The best trace minerals for alopecia:
1. Iodine (200 mcg per day)
The best sources:
• Seafood
• Sea salt
• Sea kelp or seaweed
2. Zinc (50 mg per day)
The best sources:
• Meat
• Fish
• Seafood
• Beef liver
• Eggs
3. Selenium (50 to 200 mcg per day)
The best source:
• Brazil nuts (one per day)
Other important nutrients for hair loss:
• Iron
• Vitamin B12
• Vitamin D
• Biotin
• Folate

I’ve had alopecia areata since aged 7. It would naturally grow back until 22 it all fell out. I’ve been alopecia universalis for 8 years. Started working with a functional medicine practitioner to get to the root cause. Made massive diet/lifestyle changes. Adding organ meats/high protein/no gluten/sugar/alcohol. Supplements such as vit d, zinc, magnesium and a load more. Feel like a completely different person. Brain fog/sugar cravings GONE. Hair is starting to grow back!! Dr Berg is on the money with this one

My hair used to fall out quite rapidly (male hereditary baldness, typically starts at 20-25 in my family) but then I started taking gummi-sweet type supplements (biotin + selenium + zinc with added vitamin b,c,d) and the problem stopped within a week. Once every week I cover my hair in egg yolk and olive oil for 30 minutes and then wash it out in warm-ish water...thats it. No shampoo. No additional hairloss ever since and most grew back. 36 now and I have roughly 95% of what I had when I was 19 (pre balding) I also use bovine collagen powder every day. I'm not sure if its related but ill just throw that in there too.

@rexcatston8412

@@nearmint8350 aah I think my reply is hidden, so this is the 2nd attempt: Supplements are pretty much all the same. you just take 1 pill a day with food. (the instructions on the back usually tell you if you need more but its rare) It often says you can take them with water but they don't always digest correctly, so best with food. What you're looking for is 'biotin supplement with added selenium, zinc and vitamins b,c and d' all in one. If you can't find one with everything you can get separate biotin, zinc, vitamin b complex and vitamin d3 (or maybe some companies have combined ones so you'll need less pills) for all of them you just take 1 each a day with food but ideally not all in one meal , spread out over all your meals. The one I use right now is called vitawell beauty shine and glow which is instead a type of sweet where you just eat chew and swallow 2 a day (so you don't need food or water) It has all those vitamins in one, so its the best option. if you google that product name you should find the information you need and use it to help you find an equivalent on amazon in whatever nation you're in if they don't have that one specifically With the bovine collagen, its a powder that you add to room temperature or cold drinks. the container has a measuring scoop inside somewhere so you just fill it and pour one scoop in and mix each day. I take mine in the morning. I wouldn't get the marine collagen (bad experiences every time) but the bovine power always seems to work well for me. Ok so just to recap: I take 2 vitawell gummi supplements each morning and a scoop of collagen powder in orange juice in the morning as well. But if I had to take separate supplements, I'd take 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and 1 in the evening with meals, any order.

Dr. Berg thank you for mentioning the genetic component! Althugh many people srates that our genetic is not our destiny; for many , mamy people it is! Unfortunately, even with life style changes or epigenetic changes some people stil can not achive an optimal health. Our environment is so polluted that we can not avoid those genetic polymorphism to express. After more than 15 years of research (due to my heath issues and my 2 boys health issues also) I Found out the causes using our genetic reports.(I am not a doctor, i am a chemist) i do not visit a conventional doctor anymore! They thought i was a doctor for questioning and addressing facts that they supposed to know it. I am hlad to know that lotz of people are benefiting from the information you provide. MSM - a form of the mineral sulphur for shiny hair and fast hair growth, and it also helps build collagen for skin, strong nails, connective tissue, reduces arthritis, etc. 1/3 tsp powder 1 or 2 per day, or 1500 mg tablets 1-2 times per day. I lost 3/4 of my my thyroid to a goiter in 2011. My doctor didn't offer any after treatment & I wasn't offered a treatment other than surgery. This caused me to be very health conscious since doctors don't seem to care much. They want to operate, not treat unfortunately. Now I take more than 80 supplements a day. While this sounds extreme, I have great health despite my other problems, which are not typical. I'm not here to whine, but stress is a huge problem these days and there's no help there either. So I, and others, must help ourselves and getting proper nutrition is something we can all control. Thanks for being a voice of reason in a chaotic world.

The "radioactive glow" thing is a Hollywood gimmick. It probably originated from the clocks which had Radium or Uranium mixed with something phosphorescent, so it glowed all the time. If something is so highly radioactive that it actually glows, it will kill you within a few minutes.

Same here. It happened to me around 12 (perhaps stress of moving to new state), but it was just one dollar (coin sized) patch at the top. Didn’t grow back for a year. I just want to mention Copper, especially in regards to consuming zinc, and good to include at a different time of day, so not to compete with zinc or iron, and cause deficiency. Copper deficiency is implicated in strokes and heart attacks, and it can be easily imagined, imo, that maybe a cause for these problems more so in winter is due to people supplementing more so with zinc over winter months to prevent flu. I do not see copper mentioned enough imo. Copper is also a catalyst for stem cell production.

Hello, Question @DrBergDC Could you do a video on what causes some melaninated skin (eumelanin) to have light small round dots -is there some vitamin or mineral people can take to reverse or stop the frequency of them?

Well done Dr. Berg , great info. some new enlightment for me, I'm a Hairdresser so I know how important it is for good nutrients, I also suffer with an auto Immune condition (inflammation ) and lost a lot of my hair and completely my hairline and eyebrows, I'm still working on it and need to be better about taking my supplements , which I have gotten from you. which are great. (would love to see more liquid vitamins especially D3,K2. Thanks for all that you do.

I have started taking your hair vitamins again and am on my second bottle. I have been losing hair for the last year, my hair is almost to my waist, and need to know if your vitamins are all I need or should I supplement them with something else? I have been noticing that I am definitely NOT losing as much hair now and do not plan to stop taking you hair vitamins. Is it ok to take them indefinitely? Thank you Dr Berg

I lost 1/3rd of my hair after Covid last spring and summer. My nutrition was great but COVID killed off my hair follicles. In August, I increased my protein intake w whey protein a few x a week and collagen peptides every other day and I add 5 grams of Leucine to both. I am 60 yr old woman and had always had full shiny hair but now it is regrowing and the new hair is about 3 inches long. Also a lot of toothpastes now are really bad!

Hello Dr.Berg ❤️ I was on keto 2 years, now come back to it one month already. Please help! Big question : how to adapt keto to very high loads at MMA training almost every day? I feel very bad after 30-40 minutes of training. Almost pass away today. Difficult without carbs.
