Thank you for sharing such an informative and concise video. Wired up a forward/reverse contactor at college today for a three phase motor. Fortunate to have a tutor with a wealth of knowledge and patience who in a similar manner to yourself explained the concept expertly. Contactors and relays seem intimidating at first but once you gain an understanding of how the control circuitry works , then the ingenious simplicity reveals itself. Thanks again, look forward to viewing more quality videos from your channel.

Great video, and you even explained the last NO connector. I've just had a generator installed at work for power outages now by the summer and the installer used a couple of these to switch between the grid and the generator automatically. Besides he didn't use that fourth connector but installed an extra switch outside which I was wondering why he didn't use the fourth one? Now I think I understood it, the fourth one is for lower voltages. The installer has to come in some weeks to finish some touches so I will know what voltage goes through the fifth extra switch. I'm an IT admin, so my job is not directly related to electricity but I was reading a lot about the inner workings of some systems and how what one ordinarily thinks that is "just plug it in, and it works" is completely another matter behind the socket. Coupling armonics, inductance and a whole lot of things that complicate the matter quite much, not simply 200V 50Hz :D (Argentina). Thank you very much for your explanation and video. You've got me subscribed!

Why would my 3 phase 48V DC motor run fine counterclockwise or backwards for what I need. But, when I switch any 2 of the phase wires it jerks and jumps then blows the fuse. I suspect it is trying to run in both directions at the same time. According to all the experts switching the phase wires is a simple method to reverse the rotation. Not on my motor. Any ideas?

Dear brother, thanks for explaining the contactors in detail. please tell me how to wire the small contactors if we use to contactors one for utility company electricity line and other for a generator. So reversing is done in 3 phase motors only? I'm doing a project for school and the project is to draw a schematic for a reversing starter with all 3 interlocks. We use 120v contact relays (with light bulbs instead of motors just to learn how to wire up) so this reversing starter has to be with a 3 phase?

Yes and this is caused by the loss of the magnetic field pulling the switch down. I believe this is how some circuit breakers offer LVP too.

Nicely done. Very concise and easy to understand. I have a bit Q if you may offer some advice,I sure would appricate any help. I have installed 120/240 single phase A/C - feed to a 48vdc battery bank with a 5kw inverter/charge. all in one unit. It's a great system. it is designed to allow the a/c circuit (Feed to the inverter) to flow thru matching the phase at the inverter to the charger and the load up to 5Kw until the power is lost or interrupted and then it switches under 5 milsec to the inverter to carry the load up to 50amps. .Down Side? is the charger can consume up to 12amp just to charge the batteries the eats up my Kw available. However the panel I am feeding is a 125amp 120/240v and during the day ,if the load is greater than the inverters capacity...it see's this and it shuts down. as it should. Now for my big Q. Is an interlocking pair of Mech/Elect contactors my answer? I want the utility load to feed a sub panel during normal use not passing thru the inverter. What I think I end up with is. First I need to feed the inverter from the main house panel an it's own 50a 3p breaker. Then use from the main house panel a 100 amp breaker as primary source to a 100amp 3P contactor (also switching the neutral) and the load side of the inverter as the secondary source. on a 50amp breaker. I also am going to install a wifi timer to turn off and on the 120v coil...(this is for use during peak hours) for approximately 3-4 daily. While being there in case of a power outage too. To save the food in the refers/freezers. I think I am going to have to use a stand alone terminal block to split the and parallel the load wires so I will end up with3- #2s and 3- # 6s to accommodate the 50amp lower load capacity on the secondary contactor inverter. The customer is aware he can only run up to 50amp not run full power during the use of the battery bank/inverter. Sorry this is such a long winded explanation...any help would be appreciated. I look foreword to your reply. Thanks in advance.
