There It Is! Thanks for the video as I found this very one sitting in an old warehouse inside a military Airport here in Italy back in the 80's . 👍👍

2:08 my jaw dropped, like when I saw someone remove a carriage from an Oliver for the first time. Just splendid engineering

Great videos! I have an Imperial 66 and I love it - the previous owner found it abandoned outdoors and sold it straight on to me without cleaning or oiling it, and yet everything worked first time. No sticky keys, nice light action, it felt like it had just left the newsroom. I've not done anything to it since and I love how it just gets on with the job with no histrionics. Have you noticed how all the moving parts are adjustable for wear? And I can't get over how easy it is to remove the type basket and carriage on these things. On my 66 there's even a little lever that makes removing and reattaching the drawband a breeze. It took me a while to figure out how to put the typebasket back in again though - you have to sort of push it down and forwards before you can slide it back into the body :S

Thank you. I have the same fascination with the design. My typewriter actually has rifle-bluing on it's mechanism to prevent rust and corrosion. That is what is called "War Finish", everything is black on it. I hope to get the platen recovered soon.

Imperials were built like a tank, good material as you will find out when you come to align it....The escapement rack sounds a litt too deeply set but that was common...........if you see a Remington 17, don't pass it up, the typing unit lifts out on them but they are tricky to get out, you have to know how.. I was disappointed that you didn't lift the carriage off you may need BA spanners (wrenches) be carefull with the screws, from memory the slots are fine Cheers

Hi, I bought one of these from a market in Leicester about a week ago. I live here, and pass the old factory regularly. thanks for your videos! (: the typing mechanism lifts completely out of the body if you give it a gentle lift after pulling it forward. Thanks for the video!

Glad you liked it. I was astounded when I discovered that. It is a really nice machine. What is in the old factory now?

Hi! Saw your video and i found this really beautiful. How does is the typing feel on this standard typewriter? How would you describe it against portable ones let’s say Olympia SM9 or Torpedo 18b? I want something snappy and fast to type on. I love typing on typewriters and i want to be sure i will be using this too for long hours of typing. Thank you :)😊

I have one of these which used to belong to my grandfather. He used it in the local post office. It’s not in as good condition as this one but was just about working until it decided the return would no longer lock into place. The carriage just moves about freely if you push it to the side then springs back. I can’t work out if it’s broken or just a lever I’ve moved out of place. Any typewriter fans got any ideas???
@dr.typewriter-venneburgtyp1212 жыл бұрын
There is a spring attached underneath the carriage return lever that CAN pop off with vigorous use if it wasn't seated right. Look there and see if anything seems out of place.

@@dr.typewriter-venneburgtyp121 Thanks for the response, will take another look. The draw band is attached, but might be something else come loose. I did find some instructions online which have been helpful.

Loved it, especially the typing at the end. And I liked how you kept transitioning as you were talking about different aspects of the machine versus just one spot and rambling about it. Have you though about background music but at a lower decibel? -David

Good idea David. I might include that in the future. I wanted to keep it interesting. So thank you for your input.

Hi, I have one of them, how can I know the year? and the series?
@dr.typewriter-venneburgtyp1215 жыл бұрын
The model is defined by it's style. The year of manufacture can be identified via tracing the serial number on the typewriter database.
