Man that truck has a lot of presence! Even though it's priced like a Raptor I can't help but think that you might be able to get this closer to MSRP.

Love this truck! Raptor and Trx are too wide to fit in my garage! 😂 Also not to mention having both front and rear lockers...which neither the Raptor nor the TRX have.

Surprised they removed the cell phone pocket on top of the console. It is still nice to have that instead of leaving it down in the charger. My 22 ZR2 has it.

Great review as usual Matt. Anecdotal note here regarding fuel economy and performance/capability: I drive a '95 Chevy G10 shorty work van with the fiberglass conversion van top and the 4.3 v6 engine. I average 14ish mpg with 1/3 the power output and less weight then this ZR2 Silverado. So altho not great by today's standards, it's still fairly respectable mpg given the performance delta imo.

Good point regarding the Trail Boss. It sounds like a great option for most people. Do you think the investment GM is making in V-8 engines may result in a fancy new supercharged engine in future ZR2s?

I like this truck, but I went with 6.5 bed (which this doesn't offer) 1794 trim with TRD. I just got 23.2 mpg highway over 219 miles(driving conservatively). If I'm on it hard ~15mpg. Tundra is faster. I have heated cooled front rear seats, power tilt/ tele, 10 way seats with power thigh bolster, pano, rear window screens, all the usual other was 69900 otd. Love it and have 7k miles in 4 months. Rides plush and quiet too

I have a 2023 ZR2 Silverado and can tell you that it is faster than the Raptor on the street. The Raptor produces more horsepower but GM went above and beyond in this build and it will out time and speed the Raptor in the 1/4 mile. Also, the truck is incredibly smooth over bumps. It pulls my 6000 pound concession trailer like it isn't there and the optional camera package that makes the trailer disappear is a great item. I love this truck and everything about it.

It’s good to see you get out of what you’re more into and comfortable with by getting into a big truck 🛻. I am back and forth on my thoughts 💭 about the Silverado ZR2. I personally don’t need a very wide truck 🛻 and it would work well with the outdoor lifestyle I want to have especially hunting out west in say Colorado (the home of your colleagues at TFL) as well as some gnarly backroads here in West Virginia and PA. Sadly I can’t afford it or the Trail Boss. I have wanted a Colorado ZR2 since they came out in 2016, but the new one is full size truck 🛻 expensive. Sadly with GM bowing down and being full in on the EVs their Raptor R and TRX competitor is the GMC Hummer. GM tends to count both GMC and Chevy under one umbrella ☂️. Chevy could use that V8 you mentioned or the new one that is coming out to make their own supercharged mad machine of a truck 🛻 😎

The bright infotainment screen was a problem with my 2017 Sierra as well, mainly when in reverse. The screen was WAYYY too bright and there was no way to dim it. The strange thing is that we don’t have that issue with my wife’s 2017 Yukon.

Matt, I have a question. You are comparing the ZR2 to the new generation raptor correct? Not Gen 2? Reason being is becuase the new Gen raptors I believe have the active fox shocks as the gen 2 does not. I am considering getting a ZR2.

Nice review Matt! That 12mpg avg should be illegal. I don't understand how any automaker thinks that's still acceptable in 2023...but I agree if they're gonna build a mega gas guzzler they'd be better off going all out to compete with the Raptor and TRX. How much worse could the mpg get, anyway? Chevy's tag line for this could be "Pricey and slower, but same terrible fuel economy!" 😃

I think I’d choose mine in blue. Unfortunately, I can’t fathom owning a car that gets such poor fuel economy. If I didn’t care or had were .93 cents like when I started diving circa 1992, then I’d take it and run. If money were no object I’d go for the Raptor R. There’s something about it that I like over the TRX. I must admit that I love the ZR2 and Chevy trucks. I wish my ‘93 Blazer had that kind of performance back in the day.

I had a refresh 1500 LT 5.3 that I recently traded in for a ZR2 and I honestly don’t see much difference in gas consumption with the 6.2 although it does call for premium gas which is expensive but again it seems to burn slower that regular.
