The Thai language has five basic vowels Just as English does. Those vowels are A, E, I, O, U. Pronounced ah, eh, ee, oh, ooh. These vowels are combined to produce 9 more "VOWEL SOUNDS": ae ai ao au eu eua er ia ua In total 14 vowel sounds. Now since all these VOWELSOUNDS can be either short or long, that gives a total of 28 VOWEL SOUNDS.

Jeremiah Jathniel Guevarra hi. The teacher explained it on one of their lessons in Thai alphabet that ร (raaw ruuea), ล (laaw ling), and ว (waaw waaen) are the only consonants that, combined with any other consonants, form a consonant cluster (much similar to English’s gr (great), bl (blast), wr (wrought), etc. So ใครๆ should be krai-krai.
@JJ-fk7br4 жыл бұрын
@@luine8984 hmm. So whenever ร, ล, ว are combined with a consonant, in my example it's ค. KR becomes one word and the ใ in front will become Krai krai. Thanks for the explanation. Another question in writing Sawadee why it is written as S-Wa-Dii. There is no vowel in after S. And in writing Sa why they choose ส not ศ or ษ. They're the same "S".
@luine89844 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah Jathniel Guevarra hi. A quick correction there, “kr” in ใรค is a consonant cluster, not a word (ใคร, Eng: who, is the word). Anyway, about ส (saaw suuea), ษ (saaw rue-sii), and ศ (saaw saa-laa) - which, as what you said correctly, have both initial s sound (and final t-stop sound). I have not a memory of how they are truly distinguished from one another (and I am no expert in Thai language since I have also just recently studied it for about a month now), but as in the case of สวัสดี (sawatdee/sawadee), many of the Thai words with successive consonants and no vowels attached tend to have สระ อะ (sara-à) attached to the first syllable, and สระ โอะ at the next syllable. For instance ผนัง (read: pha-nang; wall), and ขนม (read: kha-nom; snack). So for this, สวัสดี is read as sa-wat-dee (if you speak the word quite swiftly then it might be sawadee as per my observation). These occurrences, as I have observed in my still short span of learning, may be case to case basis and the only thing that aids me as of now in correcting mistakes would be the “speak” option in my phone, or a Thai dictionary app that has speech capability and a romanised pronunciation of the Thai characters.
@luine89844 жыл бұрын
Another correction: คน (kon) is an entirely different word (Eng: people/man), while ใคร is another.
@HansManikan4 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah Jathniel Guevarra Its because The Thai language uses an abugida writing system: written left to right, vowels are placed above, below, left or right to the consonant. And also they used ส for สวัสดี (Sawadee) instead of ซ ศ ษ because if their toning..Thai uses 5 tones..mid low high rising and falling

@@jordylemaire7805 isn't it consonant, ro rua? is it counted as vowel too?
@narakishnantaphalai72404 жыл бұрын
In fact, "ร" (or "ro rua") is a consonant that pronounced /r/ if "ร" is a initial consonant and /n/ if "ร" is a final consonant. And "ร" is not a vowel. For Example: "รัก" /rak/ which means "(v.) love" "รู้" /roo/ which means "(v.) know" ("ร" is a initial consonant which pronounced /r/ sound) "การ" /kaan/ which is a suffix(use after verb/noun word to make a new word one) "มาร" /maan/ which means "(n.) Devil" ("ร" is a final consonant which pronounced /n/ sound) .......................................... But some words included ร as final consonant (/n/ sound) like "พร"/porn/ and "กร"/korn/ are so confused to pronounce, because these words have only two consonants. Where is a vowel? lol "พร" and "กร" actually have a vowel "-อ" (/ɔː/,/or/ sound), but vowel symbol is disappeared, so we pronounce these words as /porn/ and /korn/. Don't worry about it, it's not many words like this. 😇😂
