I have been watching and learning from Jay for a few months ( although in a very haphazard sort of way) since returning from Thailand. I have to say she has a unique charm to her style of teaching which resonates with me. This lesson is by far one of the best. It illustrates the actual vocal mechanics and the examples are spot on. I agree in principle with the comments below that the vowel should be displayed in bold format, as a way to reinforce the imagery and attach it to a physical representation of the sound in the learner's conscience (great for reading signs in a remote area of Northern Thailand, yes?). Besides that...congratulations. Please keep this format. It is simple, elegant and highly effective.

We need the Thai letter to correspond to the sound. If we can not recognize the letter in a word or sentence, it does not do much good to be able to pronounce it.
@jt214195 жыл бұрын
Correct. In fact being able to pronounce is seldom a problem in Thai. Problem is which letters it stands for.

I'm confused about the use of เอ. Under เอะ, เลก was an example. Should it be under เอ, as in เลข? I'm also confused with เออ. In the example for the word "invite", เอิ was used instead of เออ. Any pointers on these scenarios? Thank you!
@aimulnwza4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's too late but for later learners. เ-ะ changes into เ- ็ when there's a final Consonant like เละ+ก=เล็ก and เ-อ+final Consonant= เ-ิ เมอ+น=เมิน and exception for ย เนอ+ย= เนย and if you wonder there's no /e:/ เ- + ย combination in Thai language so we won't get confused
