I bought a Eurohike Backpacker 2 DLS 3 or 4 years ago when I started camping on Dartmoor. I have been out about 20 times and love this tent. Yes, I had to replace the pegs, but I've been out in all sorts of weather, wind, rain hail and frost with no problems. As it is a tunnel tent I have no problem with leaks and have never had any condensation, and it is pretty quiet in windy conditions. It weighs 3 Kg and is heavier with the stronger pegs. The thing is I made a list of requirements and this was the only tent which ticked all the boxes, and it only cost me £37 new from Blacks. I have been looking at upgrading because I too am worried about performance in very strong winds, but so far have found nothing affordable that can compete with it.

It’s definitely surprising that a brand like Eurohike is out here making the competition look silly when you’re paying so little for them and other’s charging £200+ for something that is a little bit better, thanks for the view 👍

Used my Eurohike Tamar 2 several times now. great little tent for camping in the HIghlands. been down to -7 in winter and 30mph winds in Autumn. can't fault it really for the cost. slightly to heavy but it works. PS never had an issue with the poles ;)

That’s doos that the poles have been fine, I’d just get paranoid because of previous experiences 🤣 but it is a cracking tent for the money 👍

Eurohike tents are incredible value for the money. You should always replace the pegs that come with any budget tent, as that is where the manufacturers keep the cost down. You can pay £hundreds more if you like, but if you are doing low level camping Eurohike tents are fantastic. For wild camping at altitude you need a tent designed especially for that and it will obviously cost more.

You’re spot on with that assessment buddy, and I reckon you could still have a decent camp high up with the Eurohike in the right conditions, thanks for watching 👌

This was a good and very well made video, I really enjoyed watching it. However I don't think it is reasonable to compare the Eurohike Tamar 2 with the Wild Country Helm 2 when there is around a £200 difference in price. You are not comparing like for like. I have the Tamar 2 tent and I bought it 5 years ago mainly for use on campsites, and to be carried by car. I've also used it for hiking and camping in woodland and in sheltered areas of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Wolds. It is good for day hikes and over nighters but I would not use it for successive days of backpacking as it is too heavy for that at 2.7 kg. All in all it has been a fantastic tent and has never let me down. It is still going strong and has years of good use left in it. I've used it in all weathers from spring to early autumn without any problems I don't think anyone would buy it to camp on a mountain in winter in very strong winds. That is just jumping in at the deep end. I'm glad you did the video as it showed the capabilities of this robust and honest little tent.

I agree it wouldn’t be fair to directly compare the but as the Helm being my go to and a known quantity it’s makes it easier to make a comparison of the quality difference and use differences, as I say it’s an amazing tent for the price but obviously not a summit tent or backpacking tent and as you say has great uses beyond just those two options, thank for the view 👍

I have a Tamar 2 and use it regularly in Glencoe as I live in Glasgow. I really like it and it has done me well. I would say though that if its stormy it might shake a bit. For me its a very good comfortable three season tent but not suitable for very windy weather.

I went from an 800 quid robens cabin 6 to a tamar2 when my girls gave up on camping. The little 21 quid on sale, tamar kept me dry and warm in some sustained bad weather. The one thing that made me change it to a janualry sales 50 quid avon 3dlx was the lack of gear storage. But im not knocking eurohike. I did tear my pole sleeve with the sharp edge of the pole, but it didnt affect it. My next tent will be more expensive as i want a small pack size to fit the tent in my motorbike topbox, so im going for an msr elixir. But i do have fond memories of the tamar. Mine faded to pink in the sun which i didn't mind. It made for some good jokes by my mates.

Haha I don’t think I’ll be using it to that degree but I’m hoping to use it at some point again, the room is pretty good aswell. I fancy trying a Robens tent at some point, they look fairly interesting and not majorly expensive for a 2 man
@DDLovett

@@LeoManAndMountain if the little Robens are as good as their big family tents, it will last a lifetime. Our Robens was of a quality I have never experienced before. I sold ours to a friend who takes his family away all the time and it is still like new.

You're right, they are heavy and the pegs can be/should be changed. I've had mine for 5 years now. 8 minutes is about right for put up, but my Akto takes about the same if I'm honest. I've camped beside the Tamar River and at over 2000ft in mine. I've done 50mph winds, but I'd say that's it's very upper limit. To my mind the best budget tent on the market, and even now a go to tent if I want space to chill and gear bomb.
@LeoManAndMountain
@LeoManAndMountain Жыл бұрын
Yeah it is a cracking tent and ALOT of space but ofcourse the price reflects some of the poorer parts of it like you say pegs but that ultimately is easy to swap out

I bought this tent on offer for 45 quid, to take with me to Sweden, canoeing on a lake and camping on islands. I wasn't very optimistic about its waterproof qualities but I couldn't afford a more expensive tent. When I found out that the canoe hire place also offered Haglöfs tents for hire I left my Eurohike at home. I then used it 2 months later in Norfolk in pouring rain and windy conditions, with a friend and my dog (on a campsite, with all our gear in the car). And it was fab! Kept us completely dry during the night. We could have definitely used it on our canoeing trip!

Yeah it’s a good little tent, I was unlucky with the wind direction and rain being driven in under the hood, but if you’re not lugging it around on your back it’s a cracking tent glad you’re enjoying it 👌

as i thought my mate, no great little first tent i can,t see a better tent and if you watch out and about in scotland she as one and she,s been in 60 mph winds but she upgraded the poles and put alloy ones on and made the hat thing on the top tighter so yes you was right what you said about the top bit but yes good test for the tent there and are you gunna use it again
@LeoManAndMountain
@LeoManAndMountain Жыл бұрын
Yeah I will probably use it again in the summer in the lakes somewhere, but just with decent pegs. It is a pretty good tent for the money and wouldn’t be put off by using it again at all I’d probably keep it for fair weather personally though as upgrading poles and hoods is an extra cost and I’ve got more tents to buy! 🤣 thanks for the view buddy 👍

Did you put in the inner? You pitch the outer first and then hook in the inner from the inside. The idea is that you get out of the rain quickly and the inner doesn't get wet. You seem to be sitting in the outer only for some reason. You are absolutely right about the pegs. I have far better pegs and use them instead.
@LeoManAndMountain
@LeoManAndMountain Жыл бұрын
So I pre-attached the inner before I went, only the bottom clips/connections come loose but that’s easily clipped in after putting up

Do you think this would be fine for a week in Malta...Main consideration is just be freestanding for rock ground.
@LeoManAndMountain
@LeoManAndMountain Жыл бұрын
I would say it’s semi free standing, the front door needs pegging out and the bottom of the inner doesn’t stay attached very well without it being pegged down. I’m not saying it isn’t doable but it wouldn’t be great for that sort of ground. Hope this helps 👍

Where are people getting these for less than £50? They are going for 150+ in retailers there are alot of discounts on now tho so can get one for around £60-70 but yea full retail is around £150, just curious to know where you are all getting them from for so cheap without discounts/sales being on

@@LeoManAndMountain yea a few places like blacks and millets have them for around 50-60 at the moment because they have sales on but even they say the original retail price is around 150 Maybe just some marketing strategy or something like claiming they have a sale on when they don't while raising the retail price to trick people in to thinking they are getting a deal or something but yea from what iv seen over the last few weeks is the retail price being at around 150 and then down to 50 - 60 because of different sales they have on
