$70 bucks for a sketchbook? I don't know many artists who can afford such an extravagance. Especially not one that falls apart with normal use. Thank you Teoh for your honest reviews, I value them greatly!

If the binding were a bit better, I would consider this! For 70$ you shouldn't have to worry if you pressed just a little hard on the first couple of pages. Great review, I don't really comment much but I love all your videos, thanks for all the hard work of making them! :)

The binding of a book normally shows the care taken in making it. Be it in the beginning or the end, the binding issues on this book is a dismay. Coupled with the high price, this is definitely overpriced for its quality.

Thank you, Teoh. I don't think I've commented on your channel before, but the engaging presentation, good information and superior video quality all are much appreciated. As for the sketchbook in hand, it seems to me that several of the fundamentals of good bookbinding practice have gone by the board, with predictable results. I don't think you should be apologising for heavy handedness - which seems rather unlikely anyway - certainly at this price point. It's a shame, as there is the germ of a very attractive and potentially affordable product here, with a bit of lateral thinking.

Very good of you to provide a follow up on this. I'm with the other commenters in that while it's a beautiful and highly desirable product, it's disappointing to learn about the binding issue. My question for you would be whether you'd buy this product on your own, without knowing the manufacturer or having the review sample? With so many other sketchbooks out there, I can't imagine many artists, myself included, taking a chance for such a high price. It does look wonderful!

I wish his leather covers came in this landscape format, that way I could have the nice cover and insert a S&B soft cover sketchbook inside. Thanks for this review, and the heads up on the binding issues, I assume his accordion folded book doesn't have this issue.

Nice review, but at this price, I would be afraid to use it. I have become frustrated with my inability to find a hot press paper sketchbook, so I have purchased a 3-ring binder that has a zip cover and plan to get a hole punch and extra rings so I can just pick and choose whatever kind of paper I want in whatever format. I will need to use a clipboard, but it's worth it if I get the paper I want. Try using the cream paper with Golden Brown or Walnut ink - the results may really please you.

+Lisa Thaviu Yeah, if the sketchbook is too expensive, it can be intimidating to use. 😂 I have not actually see hotpress sketchbooks for sale though. Strange that they are not available.

Teoh Yi Chie I would have said the stillman burn is hp as it is very smooth and 270gsm in ivory and white?

Good stuff! Thanks for the follow-up. The leather should be softer/more treated at the spine to prevent this. Really a shame--for this price, it should be made for hard/rough use.

Teoh, thank you for this video. Was distressed by the binding issues at this price. Curious to know if you're planning on covering the new "Perfect Sketchbook" when they come out. I'm looking forward to receiving my copy, but it was not as expensive as this sketchbook and seemed to be made from superior materials. And also curious if you covered their earlier sketchbook a year or so ago.

They are going to be very similar in drawing functionality. You can get either. One is not significantly better than the other.

Nice video! It's a shame that Fabriano Itself doesn't use this kind of paper to make a good mixed media sketchbook. Their sketchbook offer is quite limited and bland!

I have a red sketchbook by them in A5 size, portrait format. It's 85gsm so it's just for dry media. The pages are fine grain, pretty smooth. It's nice enough for pencils, colored pencils, graphite etc. Check out their PDF catalog. fabriano.com/pdf/fabriano2017_en.pdf

Teoh Yi Chie Fabriano make a great ring a4&5 sketchbook sold under the renaissance brand in Thailand, b2s stocked it 300gsm and not/cp to rough texture. Very affordable at about 220-350bt last year. I use the a5 which folds over. But I think you're not a fan of ring binding.

At $70 U.S. No way! First page delaminating! I love the way it looks and feels but too expensive.

It sure looks great, but those prices, no thank you. It's not a price that would stimulate and encourage me to use it. On the contrary, I would be afraid to use it and spoil it with a masterpiece that didn't turn out to be a masterpiece after all and waste a precious page. Great review though.
