While I have my problems with Bliss, I do agree that her and Silico being enemies could've been a cool story arc. It would've been a mystery the PPG could've pieced together over time while Silico slowly built up his arsenal, like the Super suit. Hell, he could've revealed to Townsville that Bliss couldn't control her powers and raise this question. Will the other girls lose control of their powers eventually? Hindsight's 20/20. Also, one reason this reboot is so weird is because the guys in charge went with a "soft reboot." Look at TV Tropes for more details. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too, and apparently choked on the slice...

What could've worked with Mojos backstory is if he was a normal monkey even after Bliss. Once she disappeared, he lashed out due to the presumed death of his friend(maybe he thought Professor hurt her or something idk) and ended up pushing the professor when making the girls. It's not alot, but it would work better as motivation

Rather than adding an unnecessary Powerpuff Girl, I think they could have focused on superpowered children made by other people. An opportunity for an entirely original character, no strings attached. I mean, they're REALLY eager to make up new villains, how about some heroes like the girls? We already have a rich, weaponed wannabe like Princess, and in the original we saw other legitimate superheroes, but as an example, why not have a plot where that "perfect little boy" Newtronium made be relevant? Or characters not unlike superheroes in the making (think Peter Parker when he's just getting the hang of his powers). Since the show runners like the school setting so much, I think that last idea could be worked in well.

Thats kinda one of my ideas how to fix bliss. Have her be created by another scientist, one who isolated him/herself on an island, and Bliss having trouble with her powers is cause she wasn't teached properly how to use them or at least not against crime.

Like Mojo would try to take over the town and she would fly him around and crash with him and they would both get hurt. Blossom: You sacrificed your self to save the day that's very weird but awesome.

Funnily enough, I have an idea for a better version of the reboot more along the lines of what Ducktales 2017 did: Introduce an overarching story. One of the main plot threads in Season 1 focuses on the girls' origins which are different in this version (Because of course they have different origins.). In my version of the reboot, the girls were actually the result of an experiment to create superhuman children to serve as the first step in creating an army of superhumans. Said experiment is funded by Howard Ike Morebucks, CEO of Morebucks Industries. However, Utonium (Going by a different name when working on the experiment) discovers what MI intends to do with the girls, and realizing he can't let his work be the downfall of the freedom of mankind, causes an explosion and takes the girls away. Despite this setback, MI continues with the experiments, headed by Richard Hardley. Utonium goes into hiding, changes his name to Utonium, and seeks out the help of former colleagues Valerie Keane and Sarah Bellum to make sure he and the girls remain hidden. Meanwhile, Hardley continues his experiments, but he is unable to recreate the success of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, and instead creates creatures that are unstable (Bunny), unnatural mutations (Fuzzy Lumpkins, Mojo Jojo, The Gangrene Gang), or just plain weird (The Amoeba Boys). Eventually, he succeeds in creating a girl much like the original trio, but there's just one problem: She's unstable and can't control her powers. Realizing he needs his former partner's genius to stabilize the girl, Hardley puts all of his resources into tracking down and finding Utonium, who mysteriously vanished right before the lab exploded. I don't have too much of the specifics down, but one thing I do know for certain is that season 1 will end with a three-part story focusing on Utonium being captured by Hardley and interrogated for the information about how he created the girls. The girls go to rescue their father, discover the truth about their origins, and get into a huge fight that ultimately results in a massive explosion. During all this, Howard Morebucks was doused in all 26 of the letter chemicals (A-Z) and set ablaze by the building's generator exploding. After the dust settles from the explosion, Hardley and some of Morebucks' staff returns. As they scour through the rubble, they find Morebucks' mutated and burned body. However, they learn he is still alive. Unconscious, but alive. Hardley gives Morebucks a look over, then orders the scientists to take Morebucks away for... examination. He then states that, from this day on, Morebucks will no longer be known as Howard Ike Morebucks. He will be known as... HIM.

The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! was the last Puff-related thing. Dance Pantsed, O.K. Whatever. But this?! Clearly stepped on a man's wishes. The only good thing I can say about it is at least McCracken is still alive to put his superpowered foot down.

9:59 The windows are colored like Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup even though only Bliss existed at the time of this flashback so they should've all been purple. I'd also criticize them for putting windows in this scene at all since it was shown in the Movie that the girls created the windows, though to be fair on the latter one, the entire house blew up during the flashback so at least there, you could assume that the professor rebuilt the house without the windows.

I noticed that too, actually. Tbh, I enjoy longer names, and sometimes it can really work with the feel of the story or character. One of my characters has thirteen names (he’s the youngest of thirteen and the only son, so they used every name they were going to use with his sisters). The issue in this case is the fact a lot of Bliss herself is reminiscent of Mary Sues (for example - My Imortal... or even the original Mary Sue herself) and a number of them (again, My Immortal is one) use ridiculously long names. (Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way) So it feels less like a reference, and more like a fanfic writer showing how amazing their character is. That’s just my opinion on the matter, though. I do appreciate That they tried.

If I was in charge I would have made the first episode a remake of the movie but told very differently . And introduced all the villians in season 1. One at a time. Keep all the characters exactly the same, but instead try to tell wacky crimefighting stories and sometimes have little kid problems and deal with them in a bizzare way just like the original but with a slightly different spin. I would occasional make self aware jokes and say it's an alternate universe.

Tying Bliss with Silico's backstory does work. Even with the image shown in that episode, if the writers think about it for a second, they could say that Silico had gone completely crazy, and what he really saw was one perfect little girl destroy his home. But when she disappeared, Silico had no one he could take revenge on, until three new perfect little girls appeared. His mind is so twisted that he replaced that one girl with the new three and he genuinely believes they had done him wrong. Makes Silico more creepy and frightening, makes his backstory make more sense and it could even lead into a good story and conflict between Silico and Bliss, because despite the reasons they were created, I still do believe that they have a lot of POTENTIAL. But hey, I'm just a KZbin commenter. I'm not the writer of the show or anything. The world's a fair place, ain't it?

I just noticed a continuity error: In the flashback when Utonium is raising Bliss, you can see the house has the three circular windows. In the PPG movie, it was the Powerpuff Girls who made the holes for the windows with their lasers when they were first created, and the windows were never considered until then. But in the reboot, since the flashback takes place before the Powerpuff Girls were created, the windows shouldn't be there yet. Whether the house was fully destroyed back then or not, it's still inconsistent.

Oh boy. Where do I begin with this episode? For one thing, this was the episode that killed the reboot for me. It was bad enough that Ms Bellum left, it was bad enough to have that infamous twerking scene, and it was bad enough to introduce new characters like Donny and the bland white bread that is Jared. But the idea of changing the origin story to justify a Deviantart OC is insulting. 1. The Professor in the original only made the girls to make Townsville a better place while THIS version of the Professor only did it because a female professor made "tHe PeRfEcT lItTlE bOy". How did you turn a selfless character into a selfISH man just like that?? 2. The implication that the Professor made more girls before Bliss is terrible too. This is making Dick from the Knock It Off episode from the original look like a saint by comparison. Also, wouldn't Jojo become Mojo earlier before Chemical X? 3. The fact that the girls never knew about it until now makes this version of the Professor one of the worst cartoon fathers ever! As I said, this was the episode that made me quit the reboot and wish that it gets cancelled soon. This was a complete disastrous waste of time that was only created just so Cartoon Network can release some merchandise with Bliss' face on it. And look how well that turned out! TL;DR version: This episode is a travesty, the reboot Professor can screw off, and I give it a "No sir, I didn't like it" out of 10.

The writers for PPG 2016 can't seem to decide if this show is a complete reboot or a loose continuation. And I remember Ducktales 2017 doing a "kinda ruining the moment" joke. But it worked better there as the character who executed the joke was well: in character, unlike the Professor here. The dumb/goofball jokes really don't work for him. So your talk about the voice actress situation for Bliss will be saved for your video on the other parts I see. Kinda see why since you had a lot of problems with this episode alone. Nice review overall, can't wait for the next part. Hope to see you tackle other stuff too more soon.

The long name thing seems like a ripoff of Dot from Animaniacs, especially Dot's full name is Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa FRANCESCA Banana Fanna Bo Besca III. The difference is that Dot's name is short and the writers made the whole thing long intentionally. Bliss' name tried to do this, but did it poorly. Just my two cents. :)

So, I’m so confused about the powerpuff girls origin in this reboot, forget about Bliss’s origin for a sec. Why the hell did he made Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup for 😫 this bothers and aggravates me even if I don’t watch this show anymore that question still bothers me. In the original it made sense because it does shown signs that the professor was lonely and clearly wanted daughters, but this…the writers couldn’t even make up an origin for the girls in this reboot 🤦‍♀️, they just said “fuck their origins, lets make Bliss’s origin.” Also, was the professor’s accident an accident or done on purpose 🤔 we don’t even get an answer to that either, they clearly have Mojo still as the professor’s pet monkey and he’s green…honestly, I’ll let that slide, it’s not that big of a deal to me. If the writers of the reboot wanted fans of the original to watch it, shouldn’t they NOT touch and/or change Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercups, origins at all.

I feel like Bliss's backstory could have worked with a few tweaks. Here's how I would do it. Have Professor Utonium be in Newtounium's shadow for years and despite his best efforts cannot reach the level of scientific acclaim she has. So, when he hears she created the perfect little boy, he snaps and goes mad scientist to create the perfect little girl. He tests out Chemicals A-V (all used INTENTIONALLY) and they all resulted in failure, but when he tries Chemical W (again INTENTIONALLY) he gets Bliss. He's elated that he finally created the perfect little girl to show up Newtouniums creation. Now here's where things turn sour, in this version of events Utonium treated Bliss less of a child to be raised and more like a test subject. Testing out her powers and abilities and comparing them to Newtouniums creation. Professor never abused her or anything, but severally neglected her emotional development, because while he might have been a good science, in the reboot, he wouldn't exactly be a good first-time father. Between the emotional neglect and constantly being compared to someone she never met, leads Bliss down a dark path. She feels sad, alone, confused and starts to resent her "father" until one day she lets all that frustration out and destroys the house and seemingly herself. After that the Professor finally realizes his mistake and vows to never create another "perfect little girl" again. He even tears up the newspaper that has Professor Newtonium on it. Cut to years later, and Townsville has become a hell hole of crime and corruption. After seeing one mugging to many, the Professor breaks his vow and goes to create the perfect little girls to bring joy to the world but promises to be better than what happen to Bliss. Be a father, rather than a professor. He figures that it was Chemical W that made Bliss so unstable, so he throws that out and tries Chemical X but his chimp lab assistant pushes him into the beaker and THUS THE POWERPUFF GIRLS ARE BORN!!! There there's a backstory that blends together all of contradictions and other backstories into one easy to understand origin for both the Professor, Bliss, and Mojo Jojo. And I didn't even take it to its logical conclusions like Bliss returning, seeing she was replaced, teaming up with Mojo, being evil for a while before returning to the Utonium family and into the professors loving arms.

I can't fathom why the writing is so horrendously abysmal lol. Weakest episode by far. The sheer number of plot points is so laughable, it'll be a good impression for swiss cheese. The humor wasn't working for me, the Professor's motives completely contradicts Get Back Jojo, and it just makes me hate the professor even more than I already do. The only thing that I liked was when mojo pulled the garage door. Just don't watch this episode if you watched Get Back Jojo. I swear I feel like they're intentionally ruining the lore of this show smh. Overall Rating: 1.5/10

Ok, I said In was gonna save this for the end but screw it. This is the better time to do it. Strap in boys, girls, and in-betweens. I never saw Get Back JoJo, so my thoughts for Professor Utonium making the girls was because he realized he spent so much of his life focused on science, he never found someone. Maybe all his experiments left him unable to conceive or something like that (I know it's for kids but hear me out). Having a family was something he always dreamed about and now it seemed out of reach forever. Starting to get desperate, he turned to the very thing that caused this dilemma and decided to create a child going against all laws of reality. It shouldn't have worked, but the accidental addition of Chemical X resulted in not one, but three girls. This gave Utonium the family he always wanted and helped him find happiness in his life again. Even if that's not how the show's story goes, that's still a nice little headcanon, right? So imagine my reaction when I heard the bullcrap coming from this episode. That he made Bliss first just to compete with some non-entity. Thanks for crapping all over my headcanon assholes! You took something I thought of pure intentions and turned it into something evil. A good metaphor for this reboot honestly. And what kind of name is Blisstina? How about from now on, this Professor isn't really The Professor? He's just some crazy homeless guy who looks like him and took his place after killing him? That makes more sense.

Wow Professor Utonium was a better father that is much more nicer and considerate in the original series to the girls he created them to make the perfect ingredient just he can treat Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup like they were his kids that he would love never try to let another power puff girl change his character to play favorites just like he did in this reboot. And he created Bliss to win in a competition against another professor that is much better in creating a perfect than he is really!

How I would correct this. Instead of retconing them and giving them a long lost sister. They should have instead simply met a black girl in class who just happens to be 5 and have superpowers. Her name is Jordan she is 5 years old and really loves karate and has the power to control electricity. Princess then gets jellous. Princess: WHAT SHE GETS TO BE A POWERPUFF GIRL Buttercup: Hello to you to Blossom: She is just our friend not a Powerpuff Girl she does her own thing. Besides we would never let you join 1) We're sisters 2) You're a spoiled rotten brat beat it. She has the same interests as the PowerPuff Girls. They spend alot of time playing and hanging out together Princess gets the crazy idea because she is an idiot, if Jordan is out of the picture then they will have to make Princess a PowerPuff Girl. Princess spends a lot of the episode making Wile E Cyotoe style traps trying too off her but they keep failing. All of the Girls and Jordan are completely oblivious the whole time. Then at the end they finnaly realize what Princess is up to then beat up Princess together. I would even have her come back sometimes as a side charcaters. She isn't a PowerPuff Girl but it isn't a big change, and it is much more organic.

@Hunter holtzmann It almost feels like the writers of this show have absolutely no good ideas, so they either take ideas from the original show, or make episodes that are just bad altogether. Whenever there is a major idea they have, they try to throw it in our faces. (Examples of that would be the annoying voices repeating everything they say, having the characters spill out what CN wants us to think, and constantly saying "girl power" every time the fact that the girls are heroes are acknowledged) Which they are doing with Blisstina especially. It’s as if they are trying to throw this "Bliss" on top of Craig McCracken's work. Real punch in the gut if you ask me.

I just think of the reboot as someone's weird au fanfiction nowadays. Its the only way I can excuse literally everything All the new background/side characters are people the 8-10 year old author know from their school. The author isn't exactly sure how to write adults so she usually dumbs them down (ie the professor and mayor). Bliss is a self insert character of the author because she's always admired the powerpuff girls and dreamed of being on the team with them. And on the same note, Jared is an insert for one of their dude friends. The plot and jokes are simple and usually childish (again I think the author as 7-10 years old). And the author doesn't read back or edit their stories so consistency isn't a thing that exists.

Time to Rant: Under any Continuity excuse for the reason this episode tries to deliver, the logic clearly fails for a number of many things to make me question both the Writer, the Director in charge, and anyone who green lite this without any proof-reading. The whole reason for Professor of even making the Girls we know today, I'm more shock they don't just run away from how questionable their parental figure is for treating them when after explaining how Bliss came to be. Furthermore, the so-called "alphabetical chemicals" leaves more questions as to wither they were even successful or just straight up failures to where they never even show what happens to those experiments no matter how "accidental" our Clumsy Professor is when making the perfect little girl(s). You go to the liberty of even bringing up Mojo Jojo in the flashback without the reason behind why he's green or how his brain got exposed to the motive of why he became evil at all. And of course Lastly Bliss being herself (I'm still surprised they didn't bother claiming to use brown sugar in the 1st ingredient at all) somehow survived a whole 10 years on "Bird Poop Island" and she's manage to keep her attire even after growing and not gone say "Tribal" since claiming to live on that Island for 10 years. What exactly did she even eat to begin with, even if you excuse the whole "she can fly n' teleport off the island to eat" I find it hard to let it slip by when the whole joke is "I'm on a Shitty Island"? It's this kind of writing that needs to be reminded to those who want to make a story, learn to double check what you write before sending it off to animations to do the job of making it look presentable.

I've posted this comment elsewhere in this comment section, but I feel like I need to post it here because I think it's far better than what the so-called 'reboot' has given us. I have an idea for a better version of the reboot more along the lines of what Ducktales 2017 did: Introduce an overarching story. One of the main plot threads in Season 1 focuses on the girls' origins which are different in this version (Because of course they have different origins.). In my version of the reboot, the girls were actually the result of an experiment to create superhuman children to serve as the first step in creating an army of superhumans. Said experiment is funded by Howard Ike Morebucks, CEO of Morebucks Industries. However, Utonium (Going by a different name when working on the experiment) discovers what MI intends to do with the girls, and realizing he can't let his work be the downfall of the freedom of mankind, causes an explosion and takes the girls away. Despite this setback, MI continues with the experiments, headed by Richard Hardley. Utonium goes into hiding, changes his name to Utonium, and seeks out the help of former colleagues Valerie Keane and Sarah Bellum to make sure he and the girls remain hidden. Meanwhile, Hardley continues his experiments, but he is unable to recreate the success of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, and instead creates creatures that are unstable (Bunny), unnatural mutations (Fuzzy Lumpkins, Mojo Jojo, The Gangrene Gang), or just plain weird (The Amoeba Boys). Eventually, he succeeds in creating a girl much like the original trio, but there's just one problem: She's unstable and can't control her powers. Realizing he needs his former partner's genius to stabilize the girl, Hardley puts all of his resources into tracking down and finding Utonium, who mysteriously vanished right before the lab exploded. I don't have too much of the specifics down, but one thing I do know for certain is that season 1 will end with a three-part story focusing on Utonium being captured by Hardley and interrogated for the information about how he created the girls. The girls go to rescue their father, discover the truth about their origins, and get into a huge fight that ultimately results in a massive explosion. During all this, Howard Morebucks was doused in all 26 of the letter chemicals (A-Z) and set ablaze by the building's generator exploding. After the dust settles from the explosion, Hardley and some of Morebucks' staff returns. As they scour through the rubble, they find Morebucks' mutated and burned body. However, they learn he is still alive. Unconscious, but alive. Hardley gives Morebucks a look over, then orders the scientists to take Morebucks away for... examination. He then states that, from this day on, Morebucks will no longer be known as Howard Ike Morebucks. He will be known as... HIM.

When I first watched this special I completely missed the fact that the reason Bliss was even made was to win a competition. I don’t know how I missed that because if I didn’t, I would’ve hated the special even more than I do. You have to put in effort to fuck up an original property’s backstory this much. What’s even dumber is that they could’ve tightened it to make both ends work: he ORIGINALLY created Bliss just to win the competition but as time passed he realized he loved Bliss like she was his daughter, which inspired him to make more girls when she eventually ran away. I would do the following backstory for her, that doesn't shit on the original ppg. first...sure, let her be the first one (if you want her to look older) BUT have her not be created by Utonium. In my idea, she was created by a scientist who isolated her/himself on an island and just happens to cause the same/similar experiment Utonium did. The scientist keeped living with Bliss on the island for years. Away from the outside world and teaching Bliss everything she needs to know. Bliss finds out about the outside world and even the PPG and wants to go but isn't allowed. Then either the scientist dies or is convinced by Bliss that she can go. She then meets the PPG, who are of course quiet surprised and somewhat confused. Bliss wants to become part of their team. But since she was isolated on an island, she doesn't know how to use her powers against crime and messes up. The girls get tired of her and tell her to go. But then they remember her sister Bunny and how much trouble she had and the girls get back to Bliss and help her to become a better hero... some climatic event or something... maybe, if you wanna go cheesy, Bunnys ghost encouraging Bliss... all happy and friends and stuff. THough for now Bliss has to return to her island because something important she forgot but promised to return. Of course I also would change her entire design.

OK time for me for a trivia I like to share, Bliss has different Voice Actresses in different countries.. In the case of North America it’s Olivia Olson Marceline from Adventure Time, In the UK version ‘and in my opinion that doesn’t work for me’ Alesha Dixon a dancer & a Britain’s got Talent judge, I actually watched a clip when Alesha Dixon voiced Bliss and as I said before it doesn’t even work for me, So I say Olivia Olson does the voice better, I would say which other actresses voices Bliss but I just can’t be bothered at this point, I just wanted to get it out of the way before someone else pointed that out.

Ugh, it would have been much better if Silico's flashback only showed one ray of light, and hinted that it was actually one of Bliss' few times fighting monsters before she left. It would still be in black and white, so the girls would think one of the other two was responsible since none of them seem to remember it. Maybe make present day Silico high-school age, too, so they wouldn't notice that it happened before their creation. But, since this team either rarely thinks things that far ahead or don't communicate to each other, we have severe continuity errors.

B O I I'll be honest, the first time i went into The Power of Four, i came in halfway through, so during my first go, i missed this episode, missing out on how she was introduced in this show. When i've had the time to watch it in full....i was dumbfounded beyond belief. Like, it's one thing for this show to have lackluster level of quality and inconsistant characters......but to fuck up the girls' backstory AND the Professor's most redeeming qualities in one go? That's a new low, and that information soured my experience with this special considering the impact it left on the show's lore. There are two ways to look at this: Either they didn't realize this and they made up shit as they went along, or they did know and deliberately trampled over the canon on earnest. And no, this doesn't mean i hate Bliss----or at least, not the idea of her existance, at least. She always had potential both as a character and as a big sister figure for the girls, but she could have been written so much better. I dunno, Neutronium could have been inspired by the Professor, and ended up creating Bliss----but have her be selfish idiot instead of Utonium, that way it would be justified for Bliss to burst out and have some sort of initial distrust for the human race----and holy shit, i'm reminded of the first Pokemon movie. But as it stands, this further cements the Professor as the worst character in this reboot. Just the fact of hearing him outright state Bliss was his favorite over the PPG just hit me like a wrecking ball.
