So far NEO TWEWY is my GOTY, and easily one of my favorite jrpgs I own on my Switch right now. It has some tough competition coming up though, but I really love the game.

Tbh, I was in the "This looks iffy" camp until I watched your review. Its great that Neo is keeping some of the systems that made the original fun, like lowering your level to get greater rewards and and the meme usage. The time traveling looks interesting, though. I will add this to the list of games I'll get on PC.

I haven't had a lot of time lately, but I've been slowly making my way through this game. I'm not very far yet, but I've been enjoying it a lot! I was very surprised when Minamimoto joined!

Just finished the story mode and am about to start my 2nd playthrough. I was thoroughly impressed with this game! As a huge fan of the 1st game, I was skeptical that a sequel would live up to the hype, especially when the first trailers came out and it didn't look spectacular, but boy was I wrong. It was an incredible game, that carved out its own piece of greatness to add to the legitimacy of the series. If you were a fan of the first you should definitely give this sequel a try

This game looks so much better overall than iv pictured. Yet i'm almost unable to enjoy action rpg nowaday, i'm sad about that, great video! I like those pins to battle. Nice idea!

I am about half way(?) through the story. I am definitely enjoying the story. I watched the anime before getting far into this and I agree that it definitely helps to get a grip on what is going on. I must say that I am not much of a fan of the battle system. It is very easy to end up with a set of pins that just don't go well together and be standing in the battle with nothing to do while they recharge. As a completionist it seems over grindy to get everything. Also, the scramble slam sections seem a bit unfair as the first time you play them there is no real way to get even the lowest level rewards. However, I did enjoy hunting down the pig noises.

Great review as always, I think I'll play this next after i finish Scarlet Nexus. Tales of Arise, The Caligula Effect 2 and FFXIV Endwalker are out soon too. Its gunna be hard to keep up with all of these new releases which isnt really a bad thing.

I managed to get the game early on switch and didn't stop playing it until I beat it 😁 one of the parts I enjoyed was the food restaurants part it was a nice touch

I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Trying different Pin combinations is really satisfying and fun. Power scaling felt off, though. I made an effort to master every pin I came across, but that felt somewhat pointless when I would constantly find even stronger pins. At least that's true for the first 10 days or so. After that I didn't feel much progression at all. Most new pins were really similar in strength. Most of the time I felt somewhat underpowered despite being overlevelled by quite a lot and having max ATK and DEF stats on everyone. For me, the characters are the best part. Their likeable/interesting personalities kept me going through some of the slower days. Still, my biggest problem is with the plot. It needs almost the entire first week to get going. I never felt that intrigued, probably because of the new game's rules without partners, pacts, time limits and so on. Definitely not a bad plot, just nowhere near the first game in terms of drama and suspense. I played on Switch and am replaying on ultimate difficulty rn.

The original is my all time favorite game, but considering the long time it has been and Square Enix' track record since then as well as the fact that they had to change the battle system completely left me more worried than hyped about the game. I'm so glad i was wrong. While it isn't as good as the original (i like the DS battle system better but i prefer this over the ports, i like the original's story and characters better and all the unique mechanics in the franchise were new and fresh back then) it's still an amazing game and my game of the year so far. There is only one thing i have a beef with, something i think the game would be much better without: the scramble slams. They kill the pacing and drag on for way too long. Especially the second one is waaaaay too long.

I'm so excited to get to this game, hopefully it goes on sale sooner rather than later cuz I'm cheap. I'm actually in the middle of playing the original game on DS as I was lucky enough to find it second-hand at a good price, and I'm dying from curiosity I just want to know what's going to happen next x~D

Question, does it still have the mechanic where you can eat food(I believe it was food in the original) once a day to permanently increase stats? If so, I may boot it up to casually get stats in between other games

It's not IRL day unfortunately, it's more during gameplay. You can stand on the map and the "food battery" will stay the same until you do things like fight noise :3

How is the localisation? i was hearing a few things about the localisation changing things a bit too far (taking it with a bit of salt as i don't know how well the img translates of the JP ver is)

I played with the JP VO on and can confirm from my (imperfect) Japanese knowledge they did definitely take some liberties, but I actually really liked the script as a whole, localization included. It had so many good one liners and was written with a lot of style that I think is in the spirit of it. Some people will of course prefer a more true localisation, but the overall intention of everything comes through in a fun way so I personally liked it :)

While the localization takes liberties, it is mostly some specific terms and nicknames to be in check with the first game. If it didn't take these liberties it would be quite a departure from the first game's vibes.

I got TWEWY on Switch first and was disappointed by the performance. After getting it on PS4 Pro, I really enjoyed the game. Can’t recommend playing it on Nintendo’s console.

I personally didn't notice any performance issues on Switch. I actually don't know anyone personally who played on PS4 though. However, no one I talked to was disappointed in the Switch's performance.

I played it on Switch and never really noticed any problems with the performance. It was sub 60fps, but it generally stayed above 30-40. Might have been a hitch or two, but it never chugged or anything, combat stayed smooth as far as I could tell. Loading was also really short. Biggest thing I noticed was that a certain attack from a certain boss looked different? And I played as much handheld as docked, and never really noticed any real problems. I also absolutely love the game, so far it's my GOTY.

When I was chased by two or more Noise, the frame rate went into the low 20s on Switch. For me personally, it was extremely distracting. Yes, it’s playable, but I still wouldn’t recommend it, unless you prefer portable gaming. At the end, it’s a matter of personal preferences and feel. I know people who had a blast with Ys 9 on Switch. For me, the game is even more broken than TWEWY Neo on Nintendo’s console. Loved it on PS4 too though.

@@more_UO_memes I would think that a drop that large, for that long a period of time, that would happen for pretty much every single fight, would be something that wouldn't be unnoticeable. You aren't talking about a momentary frame dip there, you're talking about a full on crash of the framerate for a huge portion of the game and that's not my experience at all, handheld or docked where the Switch clocks higher. Is your Switch ok?
