as someone who has siblings, it never occurred to me that someone who does not have siblings, would never understand the concept of “not knowing” what it’s like to share your life with family in that way. it really is so thought provoking. thanks for that comment!

I'm an only child and I gave this book five stars ⭐ I love how Coco doesn't shy away from difficult topics but instead leans into them beautifully. This book at its core is about three broken sisters trying to find a sense of home after their sister's death. Trying to figure out who they are without her. The characters are messy but to me that makes them more authentic. I just love how Coco explores people and their dynamics which is why I also loved Cleopatra and Frankenstein ❤️

I'm an only child and I loved the book! I gave it five stars; it has been my best read of the year so far!! I loved the relationship between the characters; it made me feel like they were my sisters. My favorites were Avery and Lucky. I must admit, at first, I didn't like Bonnie's POVs very much, but later I understood her role in the story. Overall, I loved the dynamic between the characters and each one's individual stories, but my favorite was Avery - I related to her the most. Great review, thanks for sharing your opinion!! :)

I felt the exact same way! Didn’t love Bonnie’s chapters either, but I loved her as a character

I’m an only child and although I didn’t relate to the book, I thought Coco Mellors did a great job of helping me understand what it is like to have siblings and I felt a huge connection to the characters

I have also read books that if you cannot personally relate to it they just don’t pull you in - it’s not a common occurrence but it does happen

Oh my god I felt the exact same about this book 😭😭😭 especially about feeling like you were making progress but realizing there was still so much left to read (might be because the book is kind of unreasonably tall), but also about not really being as moved by it as most seem to be. as a fellow only child, I wonder if that is why I didn’t connect with it the way others did, or if Mellors’ style just didn’t work for me, or something else. Either way, appreciate your honest and detailed review!!!💗

I think we’re told too much. That’s why stake feels lacking imo. Overwriting Like you said, even after throwing dogs abuse at each other, it’s absolutely inevitable that the sisters will make up (as we’re told this very early on by the author), so there’s no tension. I found the last third of the book hard to finish because of this. (However, I agree the mother scene was interesting - the theme around ‘not wanting kids’ or ‘having kids for the sake of it’ was the most interesting part of the book for me).

I concur. Took me ages to finish it & it didn't move me. Some chapters were good but others were overly sentimental and clichéd.

I’m an only child and I DNFed it 😅 I just couldn’t get into it. I’m actually not sure if being an only child was the reason. I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to have all the lived experiences of a character to care about their story. I think it was definitely the pacing and writing that didn’t work for me.

I didn't like her first book either, but with this one, I felt that her writing was different and the narrative it self is a totally different one. I wasn't going to read but I got it as a present and really liked it, maybe you should give ir a try.

Omg youre so so pretty! Like are you aware? I always think ppl as breathtakingly beautiful as you must know but I also know unhealthy beauty standards and the beauty industry tearing our confidence down and making us insecure and view ourselves as not pretty or even ugly so they can then sell us their overly expensive product full of harmful and unnecessary ingredients to "fix " our faces and bodies that were perfectly fine and beautiful its a fucking sacm but so hard to fight your way out of it bc most ppl are in it as well! Capitalism is supposed to further innovations but all I see is it leading to worse products and worse service and more BS marketing telling us we need Anyways i got sidetracked a bit, my point ks you're breathingly beautiful and I hope you know that and also feel it as well. Also I have ZERO reason to lie here if you happen to need convincing its true
