There are small quadcopters, there are large quadcopters -- and then there is the Cheerson CX-10 quadcopter.
There's a lot of technology in this "drone" so I thought I'd buy one and see if they're as much fun as they look.
The answer is: yes!

LOL. I was clicking forward through the video to jump right to the giant quadcopter... you can guess the rest of the story! FUNNY BRUCE! I bought the SYMA version of that tiny nano-copter and they are tons of fun! In fact, I bought 6 of them and gave 5 of them away for Christmas. I kept the 6th one for myself. Second day of flying, my pit bull jumped up and chomped it in his mouth! I mean he snapped it up like it was a bird, chomped it a few times and spit it out! I was laughing so hard! I had to do some soldering and gluing because "Chewy" (his real name) broke the outer shell and the force of his jaws broke one of the motor wires free. Also the very corner of the circuit board was chipped. However, believe it or not, after about 30 minutes of soldering and gluing, I'll be damned if this thing didn't jump right up in the air with no need for any trim adjustments whatsoever! Tough little beasts, they are!

I'm going to just say it, I prefer the Hubsan q4... it costs more, but can be bound to the Tx from the X4, which gives you programmable rates (o.k, you loose beginner rates) Plus, this has opened the wound... my little Cheerson CX10 is still sitting out in the frost.... and it was blue... I thought I'd seen a ghost. I did try and recover it but at this time of year, that particular part of field appears inaccessible due to flooding, I also trashed a £30 pair of jeans and nearly wrecked my boots trying to get to it. It was a long walk, it crashed just the other side of a drainage ditch and we could see it, 5m away, but it was about a mile squelch through flooded fields, following the ditch back to the main path, no way over. Had to go under the railway through a 1 metre high mini bridge, through the brambles and hawthorn (ripping my coat) ended up in exactly the same spot as where I'd jumped the fence from the playground first time. Could not trust the logs that were obviously causing the flooding. Snagged my jeans ( and pants) getting back over the fence so I didn't have the mile trek through the floodplain. I then had to walk home copterless and with my right arse cheek fully exposed the the British winter. I've had no complaints about the arse, but I'm not going to attempt another rescue. I hope this story brings £22's worth of laughter. I don't mind being the "butt" of jokes ;-)

My Estes Proto X (which is sold by Revell as "Nano Quad" here in Germany) has the problem that the brushed motors give up fairly quick. I have two of them now, each with the same problem. I wasn't able to find replacement motors (for a price that doesn't match the one of a new micro), so I'm have to use one for spare parts... I'd love to hear how long yours are holding and how easy you can replace them.

geneticallyinferior1 Them thar heathen Chinee, they dinnae ken the makin's of a Hand-Carved Boomerang... Go ye unto my "Aboriginal Technology" Playlist, and crack ye a little Bo-Peep at the Video to be found there, called "Boomerang Aerophysics...."; then, if you're really up for it, try the couple of Vid's regarding "The Boomerang Carving Stone"... I pramise ye, them dastardly Chinee won't never make a better Auto-Rotating Hubless Asymetric Rotary-Wing Sailplane, than the Tip-Vortex Suppressing Hardwood Boomerang... With a "Duck-Shot" type of Launch, one may deliver a thoroughly fatal Tree-Strike to the Tail-Rotor of any unwelcome Heligoflopter, which proves rude enough to approach at 300 Ft, or below... The only Really Difficult bit lies in avoiding being hit by the uncontrolled wreckage, falling from the skies... Tell that to yonder beaurocratic Microbes, from the MAFANZ who be worrying about the Chinee Quadcopters...; and just remember this, you Regimented Kiwi, Bruce is an Expatriot Emu, he grew up in Boomerangland, that be whyfore he has such talents for flying unmanned Aerodynes..., he absorbed the propensity from the Land he grew up walking around on... ;-p Ciao !

Congrats with your new drone :D My wife gave me one like this for christmas. She found it in a toystore when shopping presents for the kids.. I think mine is named "Acme" or something LOL :D.... Anyways, this video has been very informative cus i didnt believe this little thing called acme could do anything and I put away the instructions without reading it (It is a male syndrome....). A couple of days later your video shows up on youtube telling us it has 3 flightmodes and can flip :O. so I had to dig up the instructions and test it out and wow!!! Now the little thing is ten times more fun! Many thanks and happy new year from Norway. :-)

Bruce, I tell you from experience. These little machines will fly even after a dunk in beer, or your preferred liquid. They are a surprising piece of technology available at low price. When I was a kid I had one of those helicopters on a stick, now kids have the chance to play with a kick ass piece of kit. Give the CX-30c a try. It's a piece of shit but a lovely piece of flying shit. Big fun at low cost. I recommend the C version of the non camera version as the motors are 8mm and you get a 700mAh battery.

can you try if the full accelerometer calibration works in Cheerson? 1. Turn off both Tx and quad 2. turn on quad 3. turn on Tx and wait for binding confirmation beep 4. pitch up, pitch down, roll left, roll right, and finally 5. pitch and roll stick at bottom right and try to look for some visual confirmation on the quad.

I gave my customers these for Christmas and they were very well received! One point you didn't mention Bruce, but is a good feature, is that it blinks the blue lights once the battery gets to about 3.5V, so you can stop flying before you damage the battery. You then recharge it with the supplied USB cable. It takes about 20 minutes, which you would think means it is charging a bit too quickly, but in practice the battery in mine is still doing well after many flights. A fun trick to do is to throw it in the air upside down, then throttle on. It rights itself in the twinkling of an eye, and you can fly on as though nothing had happened.

hey I can fly alright a quadcopter I've been practising on the eachind h8 mini and jjrc hexacopter h20. I have been looking at the jjrc 526w and the jxd 509g and most of my friends say hey the jxd because they say wifi fpv is bad. do you guys have any opinions on which one I should get or something else in the price range. the things I want in the quads are: not too hard to fly, a camera that can take some cool vids not a bad one but nothing to fancy and i want one that is relatively durable, and if it has fps thats also good, and i want one that can go pretty fast. thanks if you help me out: )

Received an CX-10 from banggood. Having problems. If I go above 40-50% throttle the motors run for a few seconds and stop. If I keep the throttle below aforementioned % the motors will run for a long time but no lift off:) If I buy another one could someone send me a link to the one you bought.

I have the Cheerson CX-10 and the WLToys V676, and they are more or less the same thing really. But I find that the V676 is more stable in flight and there's not really any problem about it being mode 1 or 2, as it can bind to any other V9xx radio or even to your Turnigy 9X!! When you use another radio the only thing you lose is the flip, but not everyone likes to flip anyway. Also, the original V676 transmitter is slightly bigger than the Cheerson one and only has 2 modes (basic and pro), but changing transmitter you get all those rates with it. And even if you wanted to keep your V676 transmitter handy because of its size and bindability to V9xx stuff, it's pretty easy to change it from mode 2 to mode 1 with a soldering iron and a little creativity

there is a simple mod you can do, by removing the top cover and drilling a small 2mm hole in the top shell and then poke the antenna out greatly improves the radio range - the other mod is using a full size radio and DeviationTX

I have one of these, and thouroughly recommend them (from banggood, $AU22.49).. After a couple of errors, I flew this thing for the life of the battery (the forward facing blue led's flash when battery is getting low) and watched it flip and twist at a bit of interpretation of the documentation. The props are made of a soft plastic, so you can bend them back into shape after a crash, though after a few more crashes they will break. With the 4 replacement props, you will get a lot of flying and fun out of it. Be prepared to wait for 5 or so weeks from banggood, shipping is free but very, very slow, and is not trackable. The only wrinkle is when they scoot under furnitiure where the vacuum cleaner won't reach. Any dust bunnies or cobwebs will immediately wrap themselves between prop and motor, and the slightest drag on a motor/prop will cause it to go ballistically unstable until it is cleared - even a single hair will upset it. That said, it's a top buy.

So sad Bruce. What have they reduced you to? I would be scared of inhaling that tiddler of a thing.

I bought several of these, they fly AMAZING for such a small quad. I also picked up a Wltoys nano, not near as tough, the Cheerson is almost indestructible considering you will likely crash in houses :)
