Re: Fonts - 7:02 - we do include some fonts. 130+ comic fonts are bundled with Comic Draw :) For Balloons and Captions, you can access them easily once you are in edit mode of the caption or balloon (double tap the element) to bring up the keyboard. Then select the text and change the font ... OR You can find them under the Paintbrush icon (top right): (For Balloons): under the "Balloon" tab > scroll to bottom, "Text Options" > "Font". (For Captions): under the "Caption" tab > "Text Options" > "Font". (For Lettering): under the "Lettering" tab > "Font". Thanks!

Is Comic Draw good for Manga creators? Does it have any tools for screentoning & special effects? Is it possible to distort the font in order to create unique lettering for sound effects, as is common in Manga comics? Does it have any tools for quick & easy panel creation, whether it's standard panels or irregular & unique panels? (In Manga, I've seen panels with unusual shapes, panels with characters popping out of them, and even panels made with dotted/dashed lines.) Does Comic Draw have shape tools, rulers & guides? Are there any good brushes suitable for the Manga style, such as inking brushes, marker brushes, etc.? What features are you looking to bring into future updates of Comic Draw? Do you plan to introduce any major updates soon?

The problem is you can't save a default. It always gives you Lint McCree and it's quite annoying for me to change it to Comic Geek for every single balloon.....

I purchased this app on my ipad pro 2017, then I moved to ipad pro 2018 and I cannot do anything on it, it's asking me to pay again. Why should I pay twice? I deleted it and never got my money back.

The script part is very smart, but moving a script to it is sort of clumsy. If you write your script elsewhere, if you do a variation of the Dark Horse script which they have, it will recognize your panel & balloons. If you want to import a script, Plasq recommends you move it to your writing app, then copy & paste into the script area. Works really well.

Comic Life (same dev) does have this script feature, and app runs on both mobile and desktop. A good app, that could be excellent if they would optimize and fix it. Same with the new app, has same and new issues.

Brad, thanks for the review. I have been trying Comic Draw recently and the more I use it, the more impressed I am. It's the best sketching app I have found yet, primarily because the interface makes total sense to me. I find myself opening and using it rather than Procreate more than I thought would happen. I think Comic Draw has a great future ahead of it. And let's be honest, the ability to draw digitally has less to do with having massive numbers of brushes, than a good working interface that stays out of the way and just lets you eaily sketch and then ink over it. Quick, easy to use, ComicDraw does it.

Smashing review, and I've downloaded CD on the strength of your thumbs-up. Just on the fonts - I've installed AnyFont (a $2 utility), which lets me install fonts into the iPad system font stack. And since CD obligingly includes the iPad's system fonts in its menu, I'm happily lettering with Indie Star BB.

Besides the generous number of pay and freeware fonts bundled with the app you can also use your system fonts. So, if you've created your own fonts (iFontMaker lets you do that on the iPad) or you bought some fonts elesewhere that you want to use you can install them as system fonts in iOS with FontManager and have any open or true type fonts available for use in Comic Draw.

I've had it for weeks, & while it's loaded with brilliant features & made to look like a snap in reviews & demos like this where it's already been mastered - I STILL can't really get traction & it's mostly just a case of frustration. I'm sure it's just me, but something as simple as locating an eraser has stumped me. I'd feel worse & blame myself even more, but I got a good grasp of Procreate WAY faster, have understood & used Photoshop & Illustrator over the years etc. - I'll refer to the manual & try to learn by doing again today for awhile, but, Wow - what a learning curve when you're on THIS side of it.

Great Review! Very informative and well timed since I needed some advice having just gotten the app. By any chance did you ever mess around with the exporting portion of comic draw, because the only exporting I've done seems to make the pages too large for instagram and some other apps and I was hoping you might be able to offer some tips.

Just don’t try to copy and paste between pages. The copy will paste to the desired page though won’t be recognised as a layer ie its visible but can thereafter neither be moved nor deleted. Other than than its a fantastic app and I used it every day.

Suddenly I've started to have a problem. When I switch the tool from the pencil to start inking and coloring, the canvas turns black, the drawing looks as if it has a grey film over it, and I can't work with it. I've colored two things and not had a problem, now it's doing this. What's happening?

Brad, check out the Myscript - Stylus App. Not the Myscript "Stack" but the stylus version. I have the sloppiest of handwriting but it works really well for me. It works in Comicdraw as well so I don't need a keyboard to draft out a script. Awesome review btw 😊

Great review - on the fonts though... there are a whole load of fonts and the ability to do quite a lot of adjustment of spacing. I forget how to find the options, but there are a huge amount from the iOS set.

Hi David - we do have plans for font importing in the future. Not sure on the timeframe for that at the moment, sorry. Re: Joined speech bubbles - To add an extension balloon tap on the extension balloon icon and block in your balloon outline so that your touch ends within the balloon you're extending. A new balloon is added with a tail connecting to the target. You can adjust the path of the connecting tail in a similar manner to regular balloon tails. Except the end point is tied to the center of the connected balloon. Delete an extension balloon by tapping on it and choosing Delete from the action menu. The idea of the app is amazing, the only problem for me is that the ink tool isn't as good as desktop apps, the superb g-pen of the Clip Studio paint is still one of the most amazing ink tools by default in any app.

Yeah, I agree, Clip Studio pens feel great. Although I did see just the other day after this review that they added some kind of pen smoothing to Comic draw, I need to find some time to play with it again.

It is primarily for print comics. All the pre built sizes are print based. So if you wanted to output at a specific size you would have to export to another program and crop/resize it.

It's an awesome app for scripting & the text balloons - but beyond that? I can't learn it. The layers aspect is beyond confusing & I learned Photoshop, Illustrator & Procreate. I have a cool drawing I like & I'm just trying to to put a fill layer behind it using the paint bucket? I keep staring, trying things, reading the manual, looking for tutorials, experimenting - No luck. I should be embarrassed, but I just put this here for other people who can't get traction & know what frustration is like. The manual on the iPad is SO hard to use - for me, anyway. But other people sail along! Must be fun!

It outputs out at 300 dpi - if your iPad can handle it. We will be looking at adding further dpi and custom page sizes in a future version.
