It's amazing ! The designer should get an award for this one. He really did his homework and is giving artist like myself what we need when we travel. Thanks for the video

This is genius. For a watercolorist, you don't need to carry around more typical plein air equipment. If you can find a bench to sit on, you don't need to carry a chair or a tripod and you have everything you need. It's less expensive than I've priced pochades, French easels and accessories and likely lighter and less complicated and bulky. It can be configured lightly or with everything you might want, and carried easily and in various ways. I'm impressed and I want one. Thanks for the introduction to these products Teoh!

this looks like a very well thought out artists bag, some of the details are just brilliant, like the Velcro attaches... and using it as a standing support. but in the end it seems a bit fiddly and complicated. a fabric bag serves my needs just fine but im sure many artists will enjoy this tool. great review!

+Aaron Hutson It does take a while to set it up as a standing support. A bit more challenging too if there are many things weighing it down.

Wow! Great review! You showed all the features well and how they work. That is an incredibly well thought out bag. I kept waiting to see something that wasn't really functional or that wasn't right and it never showed up. The makers have cosidered each feature carefully and obviously understand the needs of an artist. I look forward to the release of the Kickstarter program!

Mine arrived today. I would have needed a Maths degree if your video had not been available. Thank you for your clear, precise journey through all the bits, some of which I have probably already lost. Once I get my head round it I think it will be wonderful. Forget making art - this bag is a work of art in itself.

Excellent Teoh - it's a pleasure to watch such well made reviews. Many thanks. I'm not in the market for a backpack / easel / messenger bag / pochade box, but have to hand it to Etchr Lab for really thinking through this product. I hope it's a success for them because the effort which has gone into resolving the details and maximising flexibility is obvious. By the by, the field case, which was underwhelming as a standalone, makes a lot more sense seen as an ancillary to the satchel.

I’m curious, over 5yrs later, do you still use this? I bough one a few months ago and absolutely love it! A major downfall is the weight to it! Even when empty and stripped down, it’s still heavy! And it’s meant to carry stuff in it which adds to the weight in it! I know this was a common con, but thought it wouldn’t be that bad. As much as I love this, I don’t think I could carry it around with me on a hike or even a walk through town as I had originally planned to (to make urban sketching easier) because of the weight to it. I still love it and use it everyday day, it’s just getting less and less convenient to take it wherever even in the easier and more comfortable backpack mode. I feel like this is something that I have to have intentions on carrying to go to a certain place, straight there, switch modes to make art and switch it back and leave and just won’t be something that will be a ‘this bag goes with me every where I go and can now use it to make art where I get inspired’ carry bag as I hoped it to be. A few things other than the weight I have to say are also a common are that if you load up the front pockets, the bag tips over. I have found that if I take the strap in messenger mode and set it underneath the front pocket to prop it up just a little bit more when I set the bag down, this stops it from tipping over. I would have liked to see maybe the placement of some small feet on the bottom of the bag or that front pocket a bit longer on the bottom to eliminate this issue especially when you have any bigger than a note pad or tablet in there to weight it down. I believe it was made this way as to make sure that it still folded in on itself when you switched it to the different work modes. Even so, some feet on the bottom would help this issue even if they couldn’t make that pocket bigger. I hate the thought of having the front of this bag rolling over on the floor and risk getting nasty especially for how much I paid for it! Another con is the straps in backpack mode. When you go to put them on, they flip over every single time on both sides. This is due to the straps being so thick on the top with the heavy foam padding and super loose on the bottom with the nylon adjustable strap is. No matter how loose or tight I leave the straps, they always flip on me. One last this is with the field case. I love that too, I just wish it was slightly a bit thicker, even if by like a 1/2”! If you fill it with pen/cils with more than one row thick on each side, the need to be staggered on that second row so you can still close it. You can fit a lot in there, but it would be nice to fit two rows on each side and close it easily instead of cramming it all together JUST right to make it work especially when it has two rows to fill up and made to do so. Other than all this, I LOVE my bags and the minor issues I have still aren’t deal breakers for me, even if I wish it were a LOT lighter to carry above anything else. I’m just curious on what your long term conclusions were with this bag.

This seems like a really great bag... But to be honest, this bag does seem a little complicated and large for me. But the Field Case does have a lot of promise. I just wish it had a similar "Supported Mode" with a shoulder strap and all. I hope that function appears in the next prototype!

Cool bag but for me, I would have to cover the bag with a towel or something when painting. I would end up slopping and dripping paint all over it. What if you spilled the water? Truthfully, the more I carry, the less I really need. I keep it simple. Thanks Teoh!

@MinaRoy
@MinaRoy 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason! Thankfully the Etchr Art Sathel is weather proof; the outer surface is waterproof while the zipper and stitching is water-resistant. All these features work to greatly minimise moisture entering the internal compartments and damaging your belongings and art. In short, it's really hard to get water in your satchel. We do encourage if you're concerned about the well-being of your supplies to keep them in plastic bags for protection. - Mina Roy (Etchr Lab)

Teoh you mentioned that you prefer to sit when painting plein air and so do I. Based on your review, I'm planning on purchasing this system but plan to strap a folding stool and tripod in the satchel and then set the tripod up with minimal extension of the legs if at all.
