This is fast becoming one of my favorite channels for information on these kind of handhelds. I love the way you show all of the pertinent info clearly but also with your informed opinions. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this! I purchased the first and second versions of the metal mod from Eddie @ MyRetroGameCase after watching Taki Udon’s video. I absolutely love the device, and I can confirm the internal SD card has a push gate that allows the casing to swivel open to remove the card. I’m super excited to update the firmware. Thank you again for posting this video!!
@MrCumstein3 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll like the updated firmware. It has a lot more options and features.
@MrCumstein3 жыл бұрын
By the way, it was Taki's video that made me seriously consider this too. But it was his video about the FBA update that made me buy it immediately. Once I saw SFIII (CPS3) running at 60fps I was sold. For me those games play and feel great on this console, so I was surprised to hear Russ say that wasn't the case for him.

Nice video. I've been using GKD Mini (metal) with 350teric. It's been a pretty good experience so far. There is a lot to like about the CPU. There isn't too much that slows it down I wish they would just open up for community development. Getting regular retroarch updates would be amazing.

I've always liked the Game Kiddy. A lot more obscure than the RG350. This time last year I really was torn between the 2 devices. I went with the RG350 because they have more community support. I think I would have been happy with either.

Some people just like the playstation buttons, I know coming form years of sony stuff that I get confused a lot switching between PC and Nintendo button layouts and it's even worse when the icons on my buttons are starting to wear off. Honestly, I wish everyone would just use cardinal directions it would make life so much more simple (...unless you dont know east from west.)

Keep in mind that emulating by pushing 320 x 240 pixels is just a fraction of the power needed to push 640 x 480 pixels.

13:35 It's honestly quite funny, because all these days powered by the Ingenic JZ4770, are basically GCW Zero clones, a device from 2013! Though OpenDingux development has progressed pretty nicely since that time. It makes me curious how you'd get on with a vintage GCW Zero, for a retrospective look at it.
@RetroGameCorps3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've looked into getting an old GCW Zero, but it's pretty expensive on eBay nowadays :)

First of all, I was only thinking that question. I didn't ask it yet. Second, I appreciate your politeness as if I did ask the question. Just please refrain from responding to hypothetical questions that I am in the process of thinking about asking, though to further complicate this, I am watching prerecorded video. So, I can't even ask the question in the first place! What brashness to make up a thought, stick it in my head, then mock me with unaskable questions that you answer. Was that politeness actually sarcasm regarding something I didn't say (but was thinking)???? I think I might be offended or at least need a nap.

Concerning the FPS number dropping, but not experiencing a feeling of slowdown: You're both right. FPS is an average over a second. 60fps means there's 16ms between frames. If the machine does 50fps consistently, that's 20ms between frames. You're not going to feel that. Now suppose the machine outputs 50 frames in one second, but for most of that second is running at 16ms between frames. Then it stalls. That's 833ms PLUS a 167ms stall. That's *still* 50fps. You're definitely going to notice that. Turns out that FPS is a pretty naive method of rating speed. Something like the variance of the latency between frames would be a much more sophisticated metric. I'd take a solid 30fps over an intermittent 50fps every time.

You don't really need to use bilinear filtering with these, like SNES and NES you can just do integer scaling in the emulators and get it looking nice 1:1 with small black bars

The buttons on the GKD are super tall and have this cringy squeakiness to them I always hated. Feels like a toy compared to the 351p. Better than a garbage odroid though, and lasted longer than my bittboy which quit charging pretty quickly.

dude. love you chanel. but an rk2020 is 12us$ cheaper (with a vita stick bought apart), probably same build quality, and its an rk3326...
@RetroGameCorps3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had recorded a segment where I talked about how the RK2020 and the RGB10 are similar in price and more powerful, but decided to keep it true to the MIPS & 4:3 aspect ratio devices and keep the run time to under 20 mins. I do think those are viable options but from a different “era” 😎
