Your content never seems to amaze me. I know if I have a question about something to do with smoking meats I can come right to your channel and you will have a video to get me started. I run the WSM 22.5 and wasn't sure if you just went with the old trusty minion method with the lit coals in the center or you had to do something different since you used the BBQ Guru. Guess I should have said that I have the BBQ Guru on the way. Thanks for your time!

T Roy you know I've never been much of the barbecue guy. This entire instructional video was way above my pay scale. I will tell you the truth it was really nice getting all this information, one day I might upgrade to this level. I just bought a acorn grill which I will be putting up a video tomorrow utilizing it for the 1st time. No expertise here my friend. I will say I certainly enjoyed seeing you and meeting your wife Karen, what a great time at Keith's house. Great Midwestern folks all the people that were present at this feast were great guys and girls. Keith did a great job hosting this party. He is nothing like I thought he would be, just a down to earth, kind individual. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet you in Texas one day. Until then my friend, take care, and above all keep going with your outstanding barbecuing skills.

+The Bald Chef Hi Glen, I think you are going to really enjoy cooking on that Acorn grill. It is similar to the Big Green Egg and Kamado Joe. It was great seeing you and Kyung once again. This was Karen's first time meeting my KZbin family and she had a great time! Keith is very laid back. There was a lot of food I wanted to try, but couldn't because I was so full. I enjoyed meeting Jeff and Greg. I am glad you were able to make the trip to Hoosier land and I look forward to seeing you visit Austin. My door is always open my friend!!! Cheers!!

Hi Troy, love you content one of the best on YT. I am at a cross roads, I currently have a large one touch and would say I have mastered all types of cooking on this from short low and slow to cold grate searing, also have WSM 14” which again I feel confidant with for long smokes. The problem is the size of the WSM, I am finding I am running out of space for parties. I am think about either getting rid of both and getting a KJ or upgrading the WSM to the 18”. Space is not an issue, what would you recommend with best results being the main consideration

I was curious if buying a Cyber Q would work for me. I have a Blaze Kamado and what I am learning from the Two New Grills and One more on its way is this. It's all about learning and building a workflow in cooking. I cook every weekend and so far ... My chicken wings is the best and without any probes. Beef chuck second and my first run on a Brisket 3rd. for the first time. I did use probes on the brisket and its okay using Grill Eye proble on the Kamado. But I got no sleep because of the influx of heat temps. I am thinking of getting a Lone Star Insulated Mini Cabinet. What do you think???

T-Roy, I love your videos, great information and well done cooks. My question is this; I have a offset smoker similar to yours, I live in Canada and I have just accepted once its 32F or colder I can't BBQ. I've been looking into a Big Joe just like yours as it will allow me to BBQ even into the -20's. If you could only choose one of your smokers, which would you choose, and why? Is there any other advantages to the Kamado other then the "insulation" effect of the ceramic? Do you notice a better end product with the offset in comparison to the Kamado? Thanks! Much appreciated!
@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 8 жыл бұрын
+Ignerence Hi there, my favorite cooker is my Yoder Wichita offset smoker. The meat that I pull off of it has superior taste to meat I pull off of my other smokers/cookers. With cold temps, it would use a lot of wood though, so if you are cooking is sub-freezing temps, you would be better off using a Kamado type cooker. The Kamado does produce very moist and flavorful meat and I love that you can set it and forget it. Also, it doesn't use much fuel because it is so well insulated. I will say that the Kamado is the best "all around" cooker I have. I can cook low & slow, bake at 350F, or sear steak at 500+F. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!!

T-Roy do you know a lot about the Old Country Pits made here in Texas, how would they perform with the BBQ GuRu????
@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 8 жыл бұрын
+Tyga T Hey Tyga, my brother has an Old Country pit. I think he has the Pecos pit. In my opinion, the BBQ Guru is not good for offset smokers. I have used it on my Yoder and the Guru just blows ashes all over my meat. Plus, I still have to add wood every hour or so to maintain temps even when using the Guru. I will say that I enjoy the wireless temp monitoring from my cell phone when using the Guru, but the Guru is much more suited for using on a WSM or Kamado type cooker. I may do a video showing the Guru in action on my Yoder since I have had quite a few questions about it on offset smokers. I appreciate the question and thanks for watching!!!

It worked really well, however my question is I used my Iphone to monitor the cook and temp and the next day I ran out of data on my verizon plan. It shouldn't use any data on your plan because it is not using the cell tower network. It is using your local Wifi from the CyberQ.

Why did you attach the pit probe to the grill grate as opposed to the thermometer screw at the top of the grill?
@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 7 жыл бұрын
It's helpful to know the temp where your meat is sitting which is why I placed the probe on the grill grate. The temps in the ceiling of the cooking chamber will be hotter since heat rises and accumulates in the top. Thanks for watching Thomas!

T-ROY COOKS I purchased a CyberQ and I love it. What I found is that when I placed the probe on the rack, the rack read hotter which resulted in my fan never coming on. I owned my grill for over a year and had many great smokes prior to owning this device. I have had several great smokes with the device as well, as I enjoy being able to leave the house and still monitor my cooks or even change some settings. I will revisit probe placement, based on your comment. Maybe I felt uneasy seeing the gauge on my Kamado reading one temp while my pit probe read another. By the way, one good thing that came out of it is that my dome temp gauge is VERY accurate. :)

After further thought, I think you are more right than I am because you are using your deflector on long smokes anyway. Reading grate temp might not be a bad think. LOL I need to retest. But still, the CyberQ Wifi is an awesome add to your grilling accessories. I can smoke 26 hours and go to sleep knowing that I will be alerted when the job is done. Its cheating, but I love it. :)

@TROYCOOKS
@TROYCOOKS 8 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy Beale Hey Jimmy, if you go to the Kamado Joe site and search for local dealers, you should be able to find a place fairly close to you. I think the Big Joe like I have starts at around $1500. The 18 inch classic is about half that price.

I have a GURU for my WSM :)
@Ellis1979
@Ellis1979 8 жыл бұрын
+Dean Ellison I use an old metal coffee can and place it the middle of my coal and pour my coals in that. Take it out and run a good 8 or 9 hours, 10 if I add a couple handfuls of charcoal if needed during the cook. I don't use my Guru anymore after watching Troy's videos and other WSM videos on how to use my vents. I always play around if I have time but that's how I usually do my cooks.

+Dean Ellison Hey Dean, I use briquettes and the minion method on my WSM. If I load it up with a full bag (18lbs) of briquettes, I can cook for 12-15 hours. I once cooked a very stubborn pork butt that took 18 hrs, so I had to reload some fuel into the WSM. I always use water in the water pan.

+426 SUPER BEE I'm with you on cooking for the fun of it. I rarely use the Guru, but I have had quite a few questions from subs about it and thought I would do a video on it. Sometimes I fire up the pit just to smell that wood smoke! LOL I have been to some BBQ competitions, but it's so hot here in Texas that I rarely go. I like to wait until Fall weather to go see some comp cooks in action. Cheers bro!

T-ROY COOKS LMAO yep i grill all year around idc. Well you did a great job of explaining it. Very Nice Job, I would thrown it into the pool he heee Me and computer don't get alone very good. May be 1 day we can pig out on some Wild Javelina, been wanting to do one in the ground cover with coals.Rather on the pit like i been doing. Its great! I done wild hogs that way. but not the Javelina There hard to fine in East Texas if you can believe that. Wild Hogs are all over up here / Its so juicy and tender it melts in yo mouth." But " your don't have the glaze,smoke and char. I guess one could pit it on the pit then into the ground wrap in foil. would loose some glaze and char. That why i like a Pit, any way. I enjoy your blogs brother, keep grilling LOL Cheers Man

Nice review. I wish they'd make a proper app though, instead of needing to use the clunky web interface on the phone. Otherwise it seems perfect.

@ASFx2600

Well, I meant a native phone app that we'd download from the app store that has nice big buttons and a clean display, instead of the website-based app. I think it would look nicer and be a little less clunky, but for now, it still looked like the website-based interface does the job. Thanks again for the review.

Way to complicated. If I’m doing all this I might as well as get a pellet smoker and walk away. I have a stick smoker and bought my Komodo Joe to actually have some human intervention with cooking.
