Defense Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) is the premier deemed university under the Department of Defence Research & Development, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. DIAT (DU) is specialized in the training of officers of Indian Armed forces (Army, Navy & Air Force), Paramilitary forces (Central Reserve Police Force/Border Security Force/Indo-Tibetan Border Police/Sashastra Seema Bal, etc.), Coast Guard, Defence Research Organizations, IOFS (Indian Ordnance Factories),[2] Defence PSUs (Like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bharat Electronics, Bharat Dynamics Limited), shipbuilding agencies like Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, Cochin and Goa Shipyards, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and armed forces of friendly countries (like Sri Lanka and Afghanistan,) and other central and state government agencies.
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has placed DIAT in Category 'A' Deemed University & accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council and National Board of Accreditation. During the last few years, researchers in DIAT have filed more than 50 patent applications with Indian Patent Office and published[3] more than 2000 papers in various journals of International repute.
Collaborative research programs
DIAT signed collaborative research program,[9] faculty/students exchange programs with reputed International Universities/Organizations like Cranfield University UK, Naval Postgraduate School USA, Technion Israel, Belarus State University Belarus, Deakin[10] University Australia, University of Warwick UK, Military Technical Academy Vietnam,[11] Nanyang Technological University Singapore, National University of Singapore, Dassault[12] Aviation (Rafale) India Ltd, Boeing India Ltd, etc. and National Universities/Organizations like BARC, DST, IITs, NITS, NIITS, IIIT, ATIRA, CIPET, State Universities, etc.
Boarding
Accommodation and mess facilities are available in the POINTS Hostel on a payment basis. More than 200 rooms are available for the accommodation of students in the DIAT (DU). The POINTS hostel building is very well planned (common lift in all buildings and covered parking for vehicles) and each room is having an attached Toilet, Bathroom, Telephone, Geysers, WI-FI facility, etc. Currently, rooms are provided on a twin sharing basis and each room can accommodate up to a maximum of 4 students. Accommodation including food and room service will cost approximately Rs. 150 per day.
Other than existing POINTS hostel facilities, a separate hostel (6 floors/100 rooms) exclusively for girl students with all the most modern facilities which can accommodate more than 400 girl students is constructed and its Inauguration is expected by Feb 2020.
Also, another hostel with 14 studio apartments for married students and 100 rooms with modern facilities exclusively for boys students is under construction on the campus (completion expected by June 2020)
Other than hostels, DIAT (DU) is providing Quarters (Type 1 to 6) for its employees and a Guest House for Visitors on campus. Married students are also eligible to get quarters as per the rules and regulations of DIAT (DU) during their stay in DIAT.
