If you haven't found out in the last three years... 😂 The reason the bottom bar portion is smaller is because they use axle bar ends. Axle bars use non rotating 1.9" sleeves, standard olympic barbells use 1.98". Those aren't proprietary clips, they are axle bar clips. The axle bar is cheaper and usually one diameter it's whole length so that's probably why they are slightly smaller. A lot of strongman ancillary equipment like sleds and farmers carry, etc use axle bar diameters instead of olympic bar diameters and this was probably created/marketed for that crowd. In fact I bet these were initially designed to be used with an axle bar, the reason for the knob at the top is that on an axle bar it would prevent any rotation. Standard camber bars are stiff, they have the rotation fulcrum at the shoulder, by using these with an axle bar you would duplicate that. It's probably even harder with free rotating ends to stabilize the weight.

Hey have you used these for overhead shoulder press? I’m considering buying these to be able to press in my basement gym.

That is a great question, and no I have not. If I veer from regular barbell, I use my stubby axle or my trolley arms. I would be really afraid to try it though, because I feel like the sway is so powerful that there may be a high risk of injuring a shoulder.

Nice review of something I'm considering buying. Can you do a quick video showing these in action while doing squats?

Getting myself on camera is something that I want to avoid because, sadly, I see it as being a risk in some capacity. I can say that I imagine these swing more than a cambered bar, because cambered bars allow you to use the cambers as handles, and because the apparatus is so big that it is going to slow down the movement. There is a YT video of someone using these on flat bench with a bamboo bar (which is, IMO, too much accessory equipment). But you can see how much they move just through a bench press. It's the same for a squat. As soon as you unrack it, you feel the swinging of the weights.

@@JasonCloseOK No worries, I get where you are coming from, risk-wise. I have squatted using a dedicated rackable camber bar where the downward hangers are on the inside of the cage uprights. These seem like they would hang on the outside of the cage, which would actually be better for me, due to shoulder rotation issues.
@JasonCloseOK5 жыл бұрын
@@steves2248 Yes. You are correct. They do hang on the outside, which is both good and bad. It's good because it doesn't hit the 'stops'. But with the camber hanging, if you get off center in the rack at all, the weights will hit the stops, so you have to make sure you're perfectly centered in the rack. For what these things cost, they're worth it just to have fun with, especially if you have a home gym. There's only so many weeks/months in a row you can do a back-squat without getting bored. But they could definitely be better. If you have the money to spend, I'd get a safety squat bar first. Those, IMO, hit the leg completely different and are an entirely different exercise altogether. To the leg, it feels like a front squat, but without the strain on your front delts.

What size are these the small or the large? I keep seeing the suggestions saying large is better for squatting, and small is better for benching. So I'm just wondering if it's worth just buying the small instead of getting both for separate purchases. Plus i'm like 5'6 lol.
@JasonCloseOK4 жыл бұрын
I think these are the large. As far as which to buy, I can't help. I can tell you that the swaying effect is very noticeable on these.
