Mike, THANK YOU for the most clear and concise video I have seen for testing our campground voltage! I have been through numerous videos only for them not to explain where the probes go as far as (does it matter which probe goes where), or what to look for like in our case a possible open neutral. Thank you for explaining everything to a T!

Thanks Mike. I wired up my 50 amp service to my breaker box using 6 gauge wire . Tested both hots like you showed and everything worked fine. My camper has 50 amp service. I plugged it in and nothing tripped. Was told different by other people and was not convinced that was correct. Glad your information help protect my investment. Thanks Dennis.

What happens if I have reverse polarity on a 30A? Can I still use it? My surge protector said there is reverse polarity is how I know. My electrician says it's doesn't really matter. Is that true? Thank you so much for your answer and making this video!!!

Mike, I’m surprised you didn’t test the breakers by flipping them off to confirm they actually kill power to each of the receptacles.

VERY GOOD VIDEO MIKE! EASY TO FOLLOW WHICH IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING; I HAVE A QUESTION; I HAVE A 2003 HOLIDAY RAMBLER I,VE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE OUTLETS (2) I HAVE STANDARD 15 AMP OUTLET IN THE KITCHEN AREA THE NEXT OUTLET ON THE CURCUIT IS IN THE BATHROOM THIS OUTLET IS A GFCI- CAN I REPLACE THE STANDARD 15 AMP OUTLET AND PUT IN A AFCI/GFCI OUTLET?? THIS WOULD MEAN HAVING (2) AFCI/GFCI OUTLETS IN A ROW??? THANK,S FOR YOUR VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS I FOLLOW YOU ON RV TRAVEL PATRICK.P

+Mike Sokol Hi Mike, thanks for the very infomative, instructional video. One question: After using the first two testers, and getting successful results, what does the third tester really add in terns of benefits? It seems redundant.

Sorry late..but I just brought my RV..I believe the answer to your question is that the outlet tester checks for open grounds and neutrals. You don't check that with the NCVT or the VOM..Hope I'm right..Hate giving out false/Bad info...Cheers !!!

Each different test offers additional information for troubleshooting wring problems. I show just the basic test in this video. First, a test with a meter shows you that the outlet hasn't been obviously miswired with the incorrect voltage. However, there are a few problems it won't disclose. The NCVT test is great for discovering a very serious problem I call a RPBG (Reverse Polarity Bootleg Ground), which was sometimes done in the 70's and 80's when upgrading non-grounded outlets to grounded ones. See my article on it here: ecmweb.com/contractor/failures-outlet-testing-exposed. And finally, a simple 3-light tester give you confirmation that something hasn't broken in an extension cord. However, I don't consider it a good stand-alone test since it can't find a lot of dangerous problems. So it's a quick test, but not really a complete test.

The "Ground" part of the plugs should be facing down. The round ground hole on those should be pointed down towards the ground. When the ground is facing up, the electrons flote out. Electrons are lighter, and when the ground hole is near the top, the electrons "Drip" out, buy floating out and then up. Those electrons then stuck in the clouds, and eventually return to earth as lightning.

Could you tell me why if the ground outside my trailer is wet and I touch the steps I get shocked. I'm guessing the ground wire is broken somewhere. It's only when it rains do I get shocked if I touch the trailer and the dirt barefoot do I get shocked.

Joshua ...... It sounds like you are describing a "hot skin" situation (meaning the skin on the trailer). It can be extremely dangerous. Mike has put out detailed information on this. Here are a couple of videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2nLZ2eOaJiUgck kzbin.info/www/bejne/faa6iWytf9ypqrc Also check out his NoShockZone web site where he has an article on this situation. It can kill a person if there is a good ground and enough voltage on the skin so this is something you need to resolve. There a multiple things that can cause this, such as a bad pedestal, mis-wired cord and other wiring issues in the trailer. Start at the shore power source and go from there.

Hello Joshua..sorry late to this post..Was just checking if you ever corrected this issue ?? What was what the fix ?? I know how dangerous this can be..

@@bruceh3786 I ran into this with a used camper trailer i bought. The 120v Green/bare wire ( ground) was combined with the black dc 12v ground wire. i could touch the outside of the Water heater components and get some tingles. knew right away THAT wasnt right. I separated the 12dcv ground wire and checked the heater element switched leads for correct voltage and was good. tested everything out for stray voltage wasn't an issue anymore. spicy stuff.

@@spudthegreaterusa8386 Wow, that is a strange wiring set-up. I wonder what that person was thinking. Glad you got it fixed.

That multimeter is not rated for testing at receptacles because it's only rated at cat II
