In part 1 I look at some of the changes to the basic rules, there are some nice surprises in here. Part two will contain Heroes, Monsters and Magic.

Sure, I have a bunch of spare MT soldiers and I used to run a large knight force with Faramir. Having markers would make it feel more thematic, and could make good objective markers too.

I was hoping for more changes. And when you said the Knight of minas tirith had the exact same stats as before it made me worried that they just re-released the rules as they did with the old models in this re-release.

Not at all. The basic rules remain roughly the same with the differences I outline in this video. Monsters heroes and magic is tomorrow. I expect the massive changes to be seen when the army lists are out. The way you use might. The way you choose heroes. The synergies and the special rules make all the differences

I hope you are right! I'm more excited about the army book than the rules. Hopefully there will be some new heroes there that will show that new figures will be released:) that's what I love about SAGAs new rulebook. Full of pictures with teasers of what's to come in the future

I'm glad they didn't give the game a complete overhaul. It's not like it was ever broken, it just keeps on evolving by tweaking the rules. I like that they're rolling back on the spear support a bit to not support larger based models, I also like that they're making big named heroes more relevent now, reduction on powerful magic spells, adjustment to the hurl brutal power, and I no longer have to lay prone my nicely painted models.

I think they may just have mixed up the fight/shoot value of these two models

Isn't it possible that the shoot value applies as a better value when being mounted? Elevated position? A mounted orc ie takes the mounts shoot value (as well as the fight value if higher than the models')... Just a thought...

I think that would have been uncovered in the cavalry rules

Can you shoot at a model if he’s fully stood behind a tree? Also what do warg riders get on the charge? As a model on a horse gets 2 on the charge and then 4 if he wins the duel, so what’s the rule for a warg rider. Thanks

If you can see legs, arms, heads or body of a model you can shoot it. If not you can't. Warg riders are also cavalry and follow the same rules for knockdown and bonus dice on the charge

hi i have some questions if u can help with.i have 24 warriors of rohan on foot and 6 cavalry from the deagostini magazine,same with minas tirith 24 warriors on foot plus 6 cav, and some heroes form each side, also the 9 from the fellowship, also goblins,24 mordor orcs and 20 uruk hai warriors plus 10 uruk hai siege units and some evil heroes too.Are those packs of units enough in numbers to play small games with friends? and if yes where can i find those scenarios,and can u suggest any? we want to start the game with my friends since i have units from various factions ,i just dont know if those units are enough.

There are a myriad of scenarios using few models. Many of them from the deagostini magazines you mentioned. I recommend you check out the pdfs on the dchl website. A lot of scenarios there that could be of use.

Can I use my old Hobbit units in this new edition

Every single profile from the older editions have a profile in the new edition. They are divided amongst the armies of the Lord of the Rings and the armies of the hobbit. Additional profiles has been released in Gondor at war and the newly released Scouring of the shire. The new Middle earth brand encompasses both LOTR and hobbit.
