Received my new mill. It's put together nicer than the Wondermill but sadly doesn't grind as fine. Less noise, more compact. The switch settings only change the size of the opening for the grain to feed, at least that's what it looks like. If you don't need really fine flour it seems like a good choice.
@GrainsInSmallPlaces

Really? I have been loving the flour it has produced. I have made buns, bread, biscuits, and cupcakes all without sifting, and been very happy with the results. However, I have never used the Wondermill to compare.

Just for size reference- The countertop that I have my mills on is not a standard depth countertop (mine is only about 13 inches deep, which is close to half the depth of a normal countertop in a house), so on a normal kitchen counter there would be room to keep the mill from being pushed all the way to the wall. I hope that makes sense.

@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I understand that would be hard to change thinking. I also like how the canister fits into the mill. The canister on my Wondermill has popped off before, making a mess. It doesn’t fit in as securely as this one. Also, the detachable cord is a huge plus imo. The Wondermill cord comes out the front and is awkward to get it out of the way. It annoys me every time I mill. I think this a great mill. The only downside, the knob in the back.

How do you like the control being in the back? I am thinking it would be better/easy to access if it was in the side.
@GrainsInSmallPlaces
@GrainsInSmallPlaces Ай бұрын
I guess it would depend on the setup of your kitchen/milling area. I didn't find it to be difficult, but if there was another large appliance on both sides that could make it more so. But, you could also place it with the side facing you as well. The countertop that I have my mills on is not a standard depth countertop (mine is only about 13 inches deep, which is close to half the depth of a normal countertop in a house), so on a normal kitchen counter there would be room to keep the mill from being pushed all the way to the wall. How does that rate in your opinion and what mill does the best at getting grains the most like AP flour that you buy in the store? Here is that adjustment video. kzbin.infoGNOt93woIS8?feature=share This is the first time I have used the Impact, so I plan to play with it more and try different recipes with it, I plan to have those recipes in future videos. :)

I have a printable PDF of a flour conversion chart here that should help. grainsinsmallplaces.net/grains-in-small-places-printable-library/ I like to just weigh my wheat berries in grams for the amount of flour that I need for the recipe, and that will give me that weight of flour. For example, if I weigh 100g of wheat berries, that should give me 100g of flour. This is not the same for volume, in other words, 1 cup of wheat berries does not equal 1 cup of flour. I hope this helps! Happy Baking!

@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I had to go to the Nutrimill website to find that out. It is a very unique fascinating grinding mechanism made out of stainless steel and your rice flour looks really fine. I bought a corundum stone mill and it continues to shed stone bits pretty significantly and is not "wearing in". I don't know if it is toxic or not, but it is an unacceptable level of grit in my flour. So, stainless steel looks pretty good to me. You can do wet or oily seeds with stainless steel too. Things like sesame seed butter or soaked corn for masa. If you do a follow up that goes beyond unboxing, it would be interesting to see those things.
