I’ve seen plenty of pictures of 1941 jackets with leggings in the spring of 1945, all depends on what unit and when they entered theater, if the soldier was a replacement etc, units that arrived fall of 1944 were issued 1943 uniforms with boots for deployment.

yeah it also depends on resupply etc although you’re totally right

Comfy might be an overstatement, Konner! I’ve worn my pair all over hell throughout the year, they get there & back but man you feel it afterwords! To anyone considering getting a pair for normie use (I’m a certified non-reenactor normie) they’re awesome. It’s a fun heritage boot design that holds up (as best I can tell) pretty well… just think about getting some insoles.

My solution was a half size bigger boot and thin 50/50 leather and foam insole. Can't talk about reenactment fighting but hiking is very comfortable.

@@Totemparadox I didn’t know they made partial leather insoles, I may need to look into that! I’ve been really into thicker wool socks lately (mostly because of the cold) but I’ve noticed that when I do, my boots feel just like sneakers. May be the ticket, since most of the insoles I tried just disintegrated after a few days of wear.

@@KeepItBrick Yes, forgot to mention thicker socks. I either have a very thin merino sock and a medium thick merino sock on top or I just have thick merino socks on their own. I don't know about the US but here in Finland stores have insoles from Derby and I can't remember the name of the ones I own. I know they're Estonian.

how is the sizing compared to the shoes you typically wear? SM Wholesale makes these all in EE width and I hear they run big. Also I wouldn't worry about being Farb unless you are wearing these for a D-Day/ Normandy impression. 3rd ID trialed these in early 1944 while in Italy and by late fall of 1944 many ETO units were wearing them. Boots wear out and need to be replaced, it's why you see very few front-line GIs with rough out service shoes and leggings in Germany 1945.

How similiar are these to the french version? Do you know where I can get a french version of this boot?

I used to hike in these boots, I was always afraid the things would rot whenever I stepped in mud, or they got wet.

During the event I was walking in mud and rain and so far nothing has happened yet.
