Pro Lift jack stands Unboxing and comparison to Harbor Freight jack stands
Slight paint flaws on the Pro Lift jack stands, I can live with, because when I use them they will mostly likely end up with more and more paint damage as time goes by, but will not interfere with their use or capacity as a jack stand.
I really like the safety feature of the locking pin.
Like most jack stands, there is a tab, you can bend in, to make sure the red part does not fall out and fall on something, like a toe. I do not use that feature, because I am a Do It Yourself (DIY) person and only use mine occasionally and not on a daily basis. Therefore, I like to take mine apart and put them back in the box they came in until I need them.
So far I really like these Pro Lift jack stands and wished HF would recall my 4 - 3 ton jack stands as well as my other set of 6 ton jack stands so I could get a refund and replace them all with these Pro Lift jack stands, which I really like.
There are numerous complaints and questions regarding the capacity of these jack stands. Are they 6 ton per jack stand or are they 3 ton per jack stand. Per the enclosed instruction manual, they are 6 tons PER PAIR of stands, or 3 tons PER ONE stand. That is 6000 lbs. PER ONE stand, which is a lot.
By the way, my 6-ton HF jack stands are also 6 tons PER PAIR.
I can agree, it should be clarified and made clear just exactly what you are buying.
However, my total Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on my ½-ton truck is 6400 lbs. That is its weight rating if it was fully loaded with an approximate ½-ton payload. If I could somehow balance and put my fully loaded truck on one jack stand, (all four tires off the ground and everything on one jack stand) it would exceed the capacity of one jack stand. That would be one heck of a balancing act. However, put the vehicle, even fully loaded, on two of these jack stands and I now have a total jack stands capacity of 12,000 lbs., which far exceeds the 6400 lbs. GVWR. If I use 4 of these same jack stands, so none of my four tires are touching the ground and all the weight is on the 4 jack stands, I now have a total jack stands capacity of 24,000 lbs. for my truck which only has a GVWR of 64000 lbs.
I hope that this helps to clarify just how strong one jack stand with a capacity of 6000 lbs. is. Yes, I can agree, it should be made clear in the description, just exactly what you are buying and you should not have to wait until you open the box and read the instruction manual to find out it is 6 Tons PER PAIR. Put that same writing on the description and on the box.
